Interview with
Matt Webster Producer of FA Premier League Football Manager 99 11th September, 1998.

FA Premier Manager 99 Online: From the screen shots we have received, we couldn't help noticing the
ammount of detail FA Premier League Football Manager 99 will feature.
Though, from the screen shots we couldn't figure out if the game will
include all the player's full names. Will there be only the initials or the
full first names ?
Matt Webster: There will be full player names for the 15000+ that are included in
the game. Full names are displayed when the user right clicks a player
anywhere in the game to get the Player Profile screen.
FA Premier Manager 99 Online: One of the features says that you will be able to gain offers from the
Italian, German or Spanish leagues. Will these be the only leagues that we
will be able to play in ?
Matt Webster: Yes. The user will be able to play in any of the English, Scottish,
German, Italian and Spanish leagues, although other leagues are still
simulated within the game.
FA Premier Manager 99 Online: One of the most demanding features posted on the wish forums on the
internet was multiplayer support. Will the game include any type of
multiplayer gaming ?
Matt Webster: We will be incorporating multiplayer gaming in the future,
unfortunately we were unable to complete this feature in time for release.
FA Premier Manager 99 Online: Will the FA Premier League Football Manager 99 be released outside Europe
? Many people used to argue not to be able to find FIFA Soccer Manager in
USA, or in South America.
Matt Webster: Yes. EA is looking to release the game wherever there is demand for
it. User in the US should be able to source the title.
FA Premier Manager 99 Online: Probably FA Premier League Football Manager 99 will feature motion
captured moves. If yes, who will the motion captured player(s) be ?
Matt Webster: We utilised data from other FIFA titles so there is a host of talent
on display including David Ginola.
FA Premier Manager 99 Online: Do you plan to be releasing data updates on the internet regularly, to
update the teams, players, etc, as they will be in real life ?
Matt Webster: We do wish to update the database at regular intervals but we have
not finalised when this will happen, stay tuned to hear news in the near
future.
FA Premier Manager 99 Online: I've noticed quite some things that I've never seen in any other football
management games. What do you think will be the most important features of
this game which will make the people choose FA Premier League Football
Manager 99 from other football management games like Championship Manager 3
which should be released and the end of this year by Eidos.
Matt Webster: Obviously the ability to watch your team in full 3D (or top down 2D
for that matter) is a huge feature and one that I believe offers more
feedback than any other game to see how your team is playing. EAMail and the
Virtual Managers also offer unique features, I believe the whole package
offers gamers something that they have not seen before in terms of it's ease
of use and complexity and depth. The ability to recontruct your stand in
full 3D, as well as building training centres and hotels shows that we have
focussed on the business side of the game as well as the coaching elements.
One feature that is hugely important is also almost invisible. When create
the results of all the other matches on a day, we actually run a 90 minute
game simulation in around 300ms on a P200. This means that we get accurate
data on which players have performed well as well as getting match stats for
EVERY game that is played. This is quite incredible data as it means that
you can watch players around the world and see how they are performing with
the clubs that they are playing for!
FA Premier Manager 99 Online: As time passes, pc games always ask for higher system requirements.
Normally football management games do not ask much for a top notch machine.
What will FA Premier League Football Manager 99's system requirements be ?
There's no need for a detailed and precise list, but will it ask for a 3D
Card or for a high ammount of RAM ?
Matt Webster: Our base machine spec is a P133 with 16Mb. With this you will be
able to watch a 3D game using our software renderer although the frame rate
will be low. Obviously the more memory that you have influences the speed
that you navigate around the menu system, and the speed of the processor
affects that games that we simulate. I believe that a recommended system is
32Mb of Ram and a P200 with 3D acceleration to really see the best.
FA Premier Manager 99 Online: With the screen shots and information we have released, we have generated
quite a lot of interest about this game. When do you plan to release the
demonstation version of FA Premier League Football Manager 99, and what
should we be able to experience in the demonstation version ?
Matt Webster: We've found that it is very difficult to create a demo version of
the game that shows people all of the features in the game. Therefore we are
looking to create a demo that self runs and shows all of the elements inside
a tutorial type system. We have not yet finalised this as we are hard at
work creating the final version of the game.
FA Premier Manager 99 Online:Finally, did you manage to set an exect release date for the game ?
Matt Webster: The game will be in the shops on October 2nd, 1998.
