AI Experiments - Youth Developement
Football Manager has prided itself for years now on having one of the best simulations of football that is available on our gaming shelves. Therefore this leaves them open for these claims to be tested by people with to much time on their hands, like myself. FM has already proven that the database contains many hidden diamonds just waiting to be dug up, some say the scouting rivals some of the top clubs scouting systems and has been in secret and much recently officially used by Premiership clubs to find the next best players.
This article though is going to try and to find out what is the best way to develop our youth players. The experiment will consist of a number of fictional players put in the game with the editor all with the same attributes, each player has then been stuck in a different environment at different levels of the leagues, some in Italy being co-owned and some being loaned out to other teams in order to gain some experience. We will the follow the careers of each to see how they fair against each other. The template player used for the players was Wijnaldum a well known young gem for many versions of FM now. Please note that the game itself will occasionally take it upon themselves to change certain attributes.
Player One
Team: Arsenal
Training: Top Training Facilities
Youth: Excellent
Player Two:
Team: Norwich City
Training: Good Training Facilities
Youth: Good
Player Three:
Team: Tranmere Rover (On Loan from: Manchester United)
Training: Adequate training facilities (United: Top facilities)
Youth: Average (United: State of the Art)
Player Four
Team: Middlesbrough
Training: Top training facilities
Youth: Excellent
It must be noted that Player Four has had his CA lowered to see if this has much of a difference in his development.
Player Five
Team: Inter (co-owned: Parma)
Training: Top Training Facilities (Parma: Top Facilities)
Youth: Excellent (Parma: Good)
Player Six
Team: Juventus (Co-owned: Empoli)
Training: Top Training Facilities (Empoli: average)
Youth: State of the Art (Empoli: Good)
Player Seven
Team: Roma
Training: Top Training Facilities
Youth: Excellent
So the environements that the players have been put in have been varied, some will be in the lower leagues, hopefully will see more playing time on the field. Some will be on loan for the season but then will have their chances at bigger teams and in Italy we will be able to compare whether the co-owned system has any advantage over the traditional football model. This obviously has it’s limits as any experiment would do the main one is the lack of players being tested but I challenge anyone to have the patience to create a database bigger enough to do enough. After running the computer in holiday mode for a few seasons we will return to the players and see how they are doing.

Very interesting, anything pan out?
Wondering what the results were. Anyone mapped out Football Managers AI? What it takes into consideration, and what randomization they use?
EA is never good in providing good AI for all their sports games. I remember Fifa 2001 was one of the finest. Rest are really something really bad.
Hele leuke artikelen, ik ben een vaste bezoeker.
This is one awesome post.Really thank you! Want more.
