Spurs4Life 17-04-2004, 04:19:AM Henry just said in a interview that the reason he hugged Reyes is because before the match Reyes said to Henry that if he got a penalty, try to chip it,Henry said he would and he did, so that's what that was about.

KoreaJjang 17-04-2004, 02:11:PM HENRY PRAISES TEAM-MATES
Friday 16 April 2004
A modest Thierry Henry praised the efforts of his Arsenal team-mates despite his dominant one-man show in a 5-0 win over Leeds.
The French superstar scored four goals, three from one-on-ones with Paul Robinson and one from a cheekily-chipped penalty to take his Arsenal strike tally to 150.
Robert Pires put the Gunners on the way with a sixth-minute goal at the end of a flowing one-touch passing move as Leeds' relegation worries continued to mount.
Henry told Sky Sports: "The boys played some great balls for me - I still have to put them in but it's always a pleasure to play with quality players alongside you.
"I enjoyed all of the goals. Jose [Reyes] said to me if you get a penalty, chip it, so that's why I went to see him when I scored it."
Henry, who seemed to have shocked himself with his awesome display, added: "The most important thing is we won, because in the first 20 minutes Leeds were playing better than us. It's 5-0 but it's a bit harsh on Leeds, they tried hard and you have to give them credit.
"What can I put that performance down to? Commitment and desire. If you have quality and ability it doesn't matter, unless you have desire and commitment and go out and express yourself, you won't get anywhere."
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger was delighted by the efforts of his players and admitted he is struggling to come up with new superlatives to describe star striker Henry.
"I just think we wanted to win the game because we know our Highbury form will be vital for the championship," Wenger told Sky Sports.
"Leeds played well, they closed us down, played high up the pitch and when they could come out they were always dangerous.
"We have said so much about Henry that it's difficult to add something more. He's certainly one of the top three strikers in the world. Everybody knows about him, and better than talking about him is watching him - you get much more out of it.
"When the team is on the same wavelength and he is playing with his power and pace it's a joy to watch, he has players with quality around him."
Asked why he still looked far from content at times during the first half, Wenger said: "I felt sometimes we played the ball backwards when we could have played it forwards, but maybe sometimes I'm too demanding. You go through perfect patches in games of one or two minutes, but it's difficult to do it for 90 minutes.
"We have a rest now, which is well deserved and we then have another big game against Tottenham."
Leeds caretaker manager Eddie Gray expressed his admiration for the glorious Gunners and admitted they would be very worthy champions.
"I am disappointed, but they were far superior in every department. They're a top-class side and when you catch them on a night like that you're going to be struggling.
"It was slack defending for the second goal they looked like they could score at will. Henry is just phenomenal.
"The players are disappointed but there's a lot of admiration for Arsenal and the way they played, they've got great power and pace.
"They play with great flair and they're very pleasing to the eye - not so much for me tonight but I enjoy watching them play. It's just disappointing that the result's come at this time and we've just got to pick ourselves up."

Frostwolf 17-04-2004, 06:05:PM I was very pleased with Wiltord yesterday, he was quite solid though he didn't do spectacular though that can always be attributed to his lack of match fitness.

How come no one mentioned Gilberto? He gave Henry 2 nice passes to set him up on his 1st and 3rd goal. I think he played really well. I think he's trying to really impress Wenger as he knows Edu can take over his position.
With Clichy breathing down Cole's neck and Edu doing the same to Gilberto, it can make these players play even harder and better.
jigger37 18-04-2004, 12:49:AM Everyone has a good game once in a while, edu deserves a rest and theres a reason hes starting ahead of gilberto......they are selling the T-shirt as well
Bummy_JaB 18-04-2004, 01:21:AM I know sum of you prefer Edu over Gilberto. But I think Gilby adds that extra breath of Defense that we need.
