I AM SICK AND TIRED OF MOST OF THE POSTS AROUND HERE .... WHO IS THE BEST THIS AND WHO SUCKS AT THIS ..... I wish to start a new topic .. I hope you folks put some answers in it ... anyhoo ..... here goes.

What type of system do you think is most effective. (4-4-2, 3-2-3-2, etc) and Why?? I know there are a lot of contingents (the players or the style of play), but try to ignore the players or their NATIONALITY. THIS IS NOT A EUROPE VS SOUTH AMERICA POST!
Do you think that standard 4-4-2 system is the most effective style of play, regardless of who is playing?

I have no clue. (WHICH IS WHY I POSTED THIS) =) I prefer a 4-5-1 myself, becuase it is not as defensive minded as you might think. I clogs up the midfield and allows your defenders to play a more agressive game, while still allowing for defensive stability. Something that is not that flexible with a 4-4-2.

Anyhoo .... thats my two cents .... cheers.

Well, in Fifa99 I perfer playing with a 4-2-4 system since the cpu's so aggressive, and wingers don't make runs unless I instruct them too, which I really can't be bothered with.
IN FIFA2k i use 3-4-3 formation, since the game's a lot easier.

Theoretically, I prefer a 4-3-3
Safer at the defense, and relatively strong support to the attack, which is more efective with 3 forwards.

But this is all a bunch of crap, depending on the players. You can put 5 forwards, but if they suck it doesn't make a difference.

4-4-2 is more defensive, unless you use counter-attack or the whole team plays agressively.

Hey!! Potential wizz-coaches here!!

Say your prayers Van Gaal!!... >=)

I prefer 3:3:3:1, or basically 3:3:4
I used it in FIFA 98-99, but in this sh%tty 2k version I use 3:4:3.

I saw once Celta Vigo using it, and it was effective -- they were losing and on the last minutes of the game they reformed in this formation -- 3 defenders, LM - RM, Attacking midfielder, two wingers and two strikers -- the weirdest formation I ever saw. and guess what? they scored the goal they needed.
I like 4:2:4 too, but sometmes you need people in the middle...

Is this in real life or in games?
I think in real life you have to go with how Man U plays, 4-4-2 with the two wing mids making runs up so it's like 4-2-4 at times, but I guess this system is only really good if you have two kick-ass wings like Beckham and Giggs. But really I think it depends a whole lot on what players you have at disposal.

In FIFA 2000 I did this experiment, I set teams on manage only and see what works, first I made my team regular 4-4-2, they got beat badly, Deportivo beat them like 7-0!

Then I switched the same team to 4-3-3, with the wing defenders(the one with arrows up field), the central mid set back as defensive mid, and center forward withdrawn, I set the defensive marking on man to man, attacking at 50%, passing style as short-ball and attacking on possession. Playing this way I went through half a season in English league undefeated, 16 wins 3 draws(remember this was on cpu controlling both teams, so no cheating on my part.)

Here is my team that was doing all this damage:
Peruzzi-Babbel,Hierro,Pallister,Helmer-
Midfield: Hassler,DiMatteo(DM),Nedved
Forwards: Weah,Rivaldo(withdrawn),Suker
my key subs: Boban, Kuka, Dembinski, Majak,Warzycha
total value of my team is 133,018, which I think is somewhat less than Man U and Arsenal.

The one and only: 4-3-1-2
Switch to a 3-4-1-2 system against weaker teams.

What I like most about these two systems is that the team is never left uncovered in any position. Think of it... there's always a player there when you need him.

I mean in real life ... forget FIFA 2K ... it is an arcade game, not a simulation. I'll reply later ... like tomorrow .... but keep the posts coming!
