View Full Version : When is PS2 coming out in North America? Ronaldinho Gaucho 22-10-2000, 07:54:PM I thought is was supposed to be out sometime in Oct......do any of you guys know the exact date? Neutral LFC 22-10-2000, 08:13:PM Oct 26th. Kevin_SG 22-10-2000, 08:18:PM Yup, its October 26th and I pre-ordered mine so that I'm guaranteed a PS2 at launch...if you didn't pre-order and you get one at launch...you are extremly lucky...expect to wait around a month if you didn't pre-order... Ronaldinho Gaucho 22-10-2000, 10:00:PM All right...thanks guys...I'll probably be buying it next year sometime.....I wanna see how good the microsoft one is going to be first..... Neutral 22-10-2000, 10:07:PM You may have to wait quite a while as Microsoft's X-Box is coming out next fall! Kevin_SG 24-10-2000, 01:55:AM The PS2 has 27 games coming out for launch...the most ever for a systems launch...and around 50 games will be out around Christmas...if you won't buy a PS2 cause you think that isn't a lot of games you'll never buy a console in your life... Neutral 24-10-2000, 03:16:AM http://www.soccergaming.com/ubb/smile.gif The hype surrounding the PS2 always makes me laugh. It was sites like DailyRadar, IGN and GameFan that were the biggest supporters of the PS2, it was because of their efforts along with their associated print magazines that the PS2 gained so much awareness and hype. Heck Daily Radar even did a daily 'How the PS2 will...' And now, it's the same sites that CREATED the hype who are now the most critical of the PS2's marketing machine. As the the DVD capability, it's supposed to be pretty good - it's the #1 DVD player in Japan in terms of sales. There are a ton of games coming out this year with over 100 in development. The PS2 will also have the most games available at it's launch than any other console - just check out IGN. But $300 is a lot ($450 if you're in Canada like me) so I guess it's wise to wait and see if you're not 100% sure. Don't forget that it also plays PSX games and improves the graphics (slightly) and loading times....ah ISS Pro Evolution.. I will be spending around $800 in total for the PS2 + memory card + games, and I already bought myself a new TV. Sony owns me unfortunately. Bergyfan 24-10-2000, 04:11:AM First off, i have Dreamcast, and its soo much better than that PS2 crap. Trust me, ive played PS2, and its total bull. Neutrul: PS2 doesnt improve the PSX games, it just plays them. However, if you get Bleem!cast for Dreamcast it will improve the graphics for PSX games up to PS2 games. At the game show, Bleem had a place and on 1 screen they had Gran Turismo 2000 on PS2 and on another they had Gran Turismo 2 on Dreamcast with Bleem!cast. They looked the same. :-) And Sega are planning on releasing a new graphics card for Dreamcast which is 4 times the amount of how good it is now! Isnt that scary! As for X-Box, its a CDrom with a, lets say, Geforce 3 (yes, 3) which plays PC games. Bergyfan machiavelli68 24-10-2000, 04:35:AM if you havent already preordered ps2, there's no chance of getting it till next year, as sony has so many backorders, my friend who made the down payment had to pay the complete fee otherwise he wouldnt be guaranteed that he would get it PolishPower 24-10-2000, 06:22:AM Im having second thoughts about getting one, if I had a DVD player already I would definitely not be getting it, reason is there are hardly any games coming out for it. My main reason pro is so I can watch my DVD's on it. Question is how well does it do as a DVD player. Plus maybe the hype was a bit much, and the smirk on that guys face when he said "if you dont preorder you have to wait till January" well to hell with that... PolishPower 24-10-2000, 07:49:AM For a mid-price DVD player you have to spend about 300 dollars anyway, if it is good technically as a DVD player(I want to see the reviews about how well it does in comparison to a dedicated DVD player in the same price range.) Also, consoles are good for sports games or action(like EA games, or Twisted Metal) but in almost every other type of games computers rule, for ex. there has never been a good flight/space sim on a console, hardly any good role-playing games, not to mention war/strategy games. BTW. I know Twisted Metal 2, or Ultimate Doom didnt play that well(lag due to all the stuff going on) on some levels, wouldn't the faster processing speeds improve the performance of those games? |
