bigred3 20-04-2004, 11:07:AM here are my thoughts on euro 2004 by ea sports
i was a little nervous at first reading other peroples posts about the demo, it seems alot of people don't like it! , but after playing it now for about 45mins i can safely say that i really really really LIKE this game .....
i find shooting better , goalies better , crowd much better , u can now do special moves to move away from defender...
i really think fifa looked at how pes3/we7 are made because i have played both and i think they match up fairly well with konamni(i give pes3 a slight edge) ..
i also found it very neat when i was getting close the box i press down on the long pass button very quickly and it did like a chip shot over the defenders head bounced and went do henry , i liek this option of it not auto going to a player .......
if there is one think i would change tho it would be goalie nets when you score the net doesn't move like it should, but hey someone will release a patch ...
all in all i give this demo a 9/10 i feel ea sports has come along way and they can only get better , i now wait for the full version euro and im eagerly awaiting for october when ea release fifa 2005 :)
p.s. i typed this very fast cause i wanna get back to game , if you have something add please do so...
thanks
bigred
wabberXP 20-04-2004, 11:22:AM I like it too,
I believe it's better than FIFA 2004, the passing has improved, and as you said, now you can pass the defender with skill moves.
I feel like I have more space to run and more time to take action, opposite to FIFA 2004, where I should do everything quickly with no time.
the game needs some final touches though.
I think there are two disadvantages,
1- playing with the keyboard.
2- It's a demo ( not the full version ).
so, when the full version is released, these disadvantages will go away :p
I give the demo 8.5/10 ( 9/10 for the full version, hopefully )
bigred3 20-04-2004, 11:34:AM yes mate i agree i found i had alot of time to pass the ball , around , i really like the chip shot "ballon ball" pass i'm so excited about the real game in 17 days
i did play the demo. i feel it quite all right. graphics, gameplay all not bad. few disadvantages:
1. passing. sometimes do feel it wrongly pass, while press up + right, it sometimes do pass to right only.
2. set pieces. like fifa2004, i does not like the way they taking corner. i want something more custom, but not limited by 1,2,3. and the defender in the penalty box just like idiot, didn't move at all. freekick sometimes is quite stupid, when you get foul at the area near corner, it give you a direct freekick, that was impossible to put the ball in unless............fluke it in. basically i like the set pieces in PES3, it is more custom and you can do what ever you like, pass, shot, lob or anything
basically just this 2 bad points. this just a demo, cannot judge the final product completely. i'll give 7/10 for this demo
Keegan 20-04-2004, 01:49:PM I think the demo was quite playable. I think an effort was made to improve the gameplay this time around and there were a few pleasant surprises for me in this demo - first of which was the fact that you can choose from three teams in the demo... I downloaded the Eng/Fra demo and found that I could use Portugal as well. Not bad... then there is the fact that EA have FINALLY changed the boot model. That was the first thing I looked at when I got the demo, and as you can see from my boot thread, I gave it a go straight away. Then, while playing, there were some skill moves and reactions to players clashes that were good to see. There was one occasion where I was upended by a defender and was waiting on the Ref to blow the whistle (silly me!:D ) and the Ref did nothing of the sort... again, good stuff. I have high hopes for Fifa 2005, I may not go out to get Euro 2004 as a Concacaf Man and Concacaf/South America fan, but it does have the makings of a good footy game, imho. (So now I need to get this boot model into Fifa 2004 as I wait patiently on Fifa 2005...)
TristanAbbott7 20-04-2004, 02:38:PM Ha ha! Oh my goodness, this game is horrible. I downloaded it with the intent to write an in-depth review for an article but after a few games I just gave up (and not because I struggled at it - I won 5-1 and 4-0).
Other than the cut scenes (where the faces are great but the uniforms are horrible - why are the badges and uniforms so ugly, they look worse than they did 5 years ago?) the game looks like FIFA 2000. For real, nobody can look at the players moving on the field and tell me that's 4 or 5 years progress down the road from FIFA 2000!!!
The gameplay is a slight improvement over FIFA 2004 except the ability to be able to clear the ball perfectly while facing the other direction in a split second. The goals are possibly the worst textures and badly to scale since FIFA 1999.
FIFA 98 RTWC still kicks this games butt. Nice faces in the game but that's it. Really, take away those and you'd think you went back in time.
As for the guy who says this is close to PES3, you are seriously dreaming. The gameplay isn't as good as International Superstar Soccer on the Nintendo 64 from 8 years ago.
AcillateM 20-04-2004, 04:06:PM agreed
Killua 20-04-2004, 05:24:PM few bad things i've noticed. Of course please correct me if i'm wrong.
- Apparently whoever taking the corner kick doesn't matter... what matters is the one on the receiving end.
- When a free kick is given within range... I have to shoot. I can't pass...?
- The freekick system is still bad. I want to play soccer.. not golf. (some ppl like it, i don't)
- the 3d models are great. They got the proportions right unlike previous fifas.. but the textures are worse than counter-strike from 3 years ago. Still using the same gloves for 4 years heh.
- Stats... how come Zidane can run so fast! And all player's responsiveness seems the same... I expect Henry's dribbling the ball and turning in a different direction faster than Gary Neville.
- In cutscenes, the player shows different emotions. In replays, he's smiling when he fell to the ground.
yeah, agreed too. the uniform really have a bad look seriously said and the crowd are "improved" but i saw half body crowd

-yaya...only 3 person in the penalty box are assigned to receive. and when computer taking corner, you just sit at there and look. got 99% it couldn't went it
-yaya...may be they thought everybody are roberto carlos, able to score from 0 degree
-seriously said i prefer custom freekick, like PES3
-i still prefer FIFA2003 graphics, even though the environment are looking good but the player body and kits are horrible
-this prove again player stats does not affect the game
-about facing impression....emmm not really notice since it not the biggest issue in the game
i got a question:
does this time, away team shirt will get dirty???? anybody notice? cause in FIFA2004, it won't get a dirt at all

I probably seem very lazy not giving an account of my own but after playing the demo the above pretty much sums up my view. I haven't played FIFA 2000 for the PC but I would say that FIFA 2001 is graphically superior to Euro 2004, the only aesthetic feature Euro 2004 has over FIFA 2001 is the player faces and perhaps the crowd
lplover2k2 20-04-2004, 07:32:PM one question is it better than pes3?? i don't believe so

EA will never learn how to make a footballgame right!
maybe because they're Canadian?
arcturuz 20-04-2004, 08:16:PM antialiasing doesn't seem to work on my ATI 9800pro even though its set to 6x
ishan1990 20-04-2004, 08:30:PM one of the bigger differences i noticed is i cant power up my through pass. I just press it and its like a normal pass except it goes into space. I dont like that very much. It also makes the gameplay faster, maybe a bit too fast. But the game is deffinately improved over 2004. I'm still debating whether to buy it
Hendrik 20-04-2004, 08:36:PM This game sucks. My favourite Fifa is still World Cup '02 and this wasn't made by EA Canada.

juanmanuelsanchez 20-04-2004, 08:59:PM well the loob pass will NEVER be short wich is very very unrealistic and why there is not a power bar for normal passing?

bigred3 20-04-2004, 09:07:PM LOL world cup 2002 was ******* ****, when u shot the ball it use to turn like a flame or something .............. believe me i would give a pes3 a higher rating if i couild play it (stupid japs don't know how to put it for video cards) ..but i'm getting a new video card soon so i should be able to play more pes3 and euro 2004 ...

Thats how I felt when playing this game. It was as if I was still playing Fifa 2004 with a couple of updated things.
Dont know how many times ive said this in the past but its just another case of same sh!t different year.
And how bad are the textures. They seem to be getting worse as time goes on.
When it comes to all things football EA simply have no clue.
Bummy_JaB 21-04-2004, 12:40:AM HAHAHAHHA they are trying to steal all Konami gameplay features.

90% of all these features were in WE6. FIFA= CACA

manutd4eva 21-04-2004, 10:39:AM At the moment, I don't have any problems with the game except for the ******* stupid goal celebrations.:|
It might get boring after a while like with all EA games but, they have certainly improved.
Still not gonna buy it though. There are other means of getting it.(H)
the feature are great....it remind me winning eleven 6...not bad huh...:o
[mouta-FCP] 21-04-2004, 05:42:PM It seems to me that the people that accused FIFA fans to be blind turned even more blinded... they only see KONAMI games, they can't see EA progress. 98sharrocs 22-04-2004, 04:14:AM i know why this game is great its got official licences and loads more game modes like fantasy mode has PES3 or Winning eleven got that or home or away situation creator this game is better than PES3 and Winning Eleven if u have the demo expander and play a full 90mins of euro 2004 u would say this is better than PES3 becoz pro evolution wouldnt last a full 90mins once u have masted pro evolution u would be winning about 20-0

HAHHAHAHA its more like the other way around, all EA Fifa games can be masterd in 1-2 hours. After that you get score lines of 20-0:|
Whatever guys i use to be just like you guys but then i saw the light and its called WE/PES:)
Killua 22-04-2004, 05:49:AM hehe, there's a reason why soccer games default themselves to 5-10 mins... and that's because they're games!
It's easier to play the ball around when u see from the camera.. than when u are at the pitch. In games, you know where everyone is, avoiding, aiming, shooting and passing is much easier than real life.
That's why, scoring is always easier in games.

TristanAbbott7 22-04-2004, 11:46:AM FIFA 2004 took about 2 games for my cousin, who is 9, to beat the computer regularly on Professional level. Within the week he was scoring about 3 or 4 50 yard screamers per game on World Class so took the game back to the store. Thankfully now he plays Winning Eleven 7 and loves it.
The player & ball physics in EURO 2004 are still so, so bad. How can you justify players changing direction 180 degrees without slowing down or different player attributes meaning nothing? Theb all accelerates like it has jet thrusters on it in mid air and then slows down sudeenly and drops like somebody shot a bird out of the sky - have EA never seen the path of a ball through the air in arcs, etc? When a ball travels semi-laterally through air it doesn't just drop like a stone midway through flight but lowers gradually.
As for the goals, wil lthey ever, ever get the goals in real scale to the goalkeepers again? Same thing in each FIFA, either the players must be 8 feet tall or the goals are too small.
soccerfan 22-04-2004, 01:09:PM The wolf was out prowling and is looking for preys to satisfy its hunger. No offence. I believe your 9 year old cousin must have very good eye-hand co-ordination as he takes only two games to outplay the CPU at the Pro Level. Poor me. I still suffer defeats at Pro Level and have not touch World Class yet, after having Fifa 2004 since Oct 2003.
I have not play any Konami's football games since ISS PE2. Why? I don't like the steep learning curve and the lack of licences. WE series are good football games but not great. As mentioned before, different group of people have difference likes and dislikes. Why do we need to impose our view on others. Very undemocratic.

and here is his words... FOOT IN MOUTH
Clearly aimed at the mass market, EA is happy to admit that it's attempting to ensnare Euro-crazed football fans. In a somewhat Ratner-esque statement, a senior marketing executive openly proclaimed: "I want to be honest with you and say that this game is not going to be a PES-beater - it's not even going to necessarily be a FIFA-beater."
So plz now shut the **** up(H) :mrpimp:
AhmedK 23-04-2004, 06:24:AM I have the full EURO2004 game. Except here in the USA its called FIFA2004. :p
well, maybe its not that bad, and i admit....my computer is ****, how bad you ask? All the players were in black format. A very bad face on top of blue and white(france) blocks. :( So i cant really say i have played it.
However, when i run with the ball it seems like all i need to do is use OTB(if i knew how to use it on keyboard) to break the defenders. The GK looked a bit better though. Anyway, since im playing with block men i cant really give a full review.
btw, how do you guys manage to fight over stupid things? Tristan, this is a REVIEW thread, if you dont have anything constructive don't say anything at all. You dont have to like fifa, and you can certainly tell everyone why but don't be an ass.. In other words: No more "ea sucks balls" posts or else.

I think you got it confused, because anyone who knows anything about soccer knows Euro 2004 kicks WE7I ass allover.
EURO 2004 has got to be the best EAsports football game so far.
The gameplay is much much better than 2004 and they appear to have sorted out alot of the goal keeping problems.
EA have also sorted out some little graphics problems, for example the players limbs are alot smoother and the lighting is much better. All in all, I think it's a great game which I will almost definitely be buying.

EA are really bad at football games, a new title is basically like the previous title with updated teams/stats + some slight updates basically added to piss you off.. (example: off the ball control, this f***ed up corner kick system.. etc)..
and since ages EA have been telling its customers about a "MASSIVE UPDATE IN GAMEPLAY".. yeah right..more like massive update in stats/teams + a very minor update to show you that they have done something..
oh well enjoy this game.. :D
