Big game this weekend. We need the points to stay in touch with Chelsea. But considering its Liverpool i would be happy with 1 point.

Should be a cracker though, with Saha on form, Ruud and Howard back and Neville on a roll (H)

We'll go there and try to nick an early goal and sit back on it. But we'll fail. Miserably.

If we get anything out of this game I'll piss my pants

Not too optimistic. I draw would be a very good result to say the truth. Chelsea are not on good form, so Newcastle will probably get a good result, so a win is a must. If we play against Man Utd the full 90 mins like we played the first half against Arsenal, we have a chance.

Plus he's on a roll, two goals in three games and would've been three in three if is wasn't for the handball on Saturday.

United should win this one, but seeing as it's Liverpool, anything can happen. We need the three points to keep the pressure on Chelsea. My prediction is 2-1 to United.

henry#14
21-04-2004, 02:28:PM
this could be a tricky one since both teams are highly motivated. i'm thinking a close united win or a draw. for some reason i can't see 'pool leaving with 3 points

Close affair unless someone like Gerrard gets sent off.

Tim Howard to score a hat trick and perhaps some of the groundsmen will knock in a few more goals just for laughs.

hunttherock

Neville, Howard, groundsmen are more certain to score, than Wes Brown and Biscan, ;)

John_Arne_Riise
21-04-2004, 09:57:PM
Well we will actually have Owen playing Man Utd this time, he's missed the last 2 battles between these giants, and i predict he will be the difference between whether or not we take something from the match.

Paul Scholes is out for Utd which is a bonus for us. Just who will Houllier play in that CB position? Henchoz or Biscan?

Is hard to predict a score but if Gerrard fires we have a chance and if Kewell recaptures his old form i think we might nick a 1-1 draw.

Owen and Saha to score.

this is the big one, if we win this or even get a draw i think we'll go onto take 4th spot and the champions league qualification posistion. but if we lose i think we'll go down to 5th or 6th by the end of the season. we need this more than they do so it's gonna be 2-1 Liverpool!! A commercial rivalry 100 years old
About shipping & spinning & earning gold
It's the Reds against the Mancs.

Their jammy Camp Nou win ? They can stuff it !
It's the Reds against the Mancs.

It's about the numbers Eighteen and Four
Like regimental honours in a tribal war
(It may be an 'orrible mixed metaphor,
But it's what Poor Scouser Tommy fought for
….If his regiment had any Mancs )

It's ha ha ha, it's hee hee hee
It's Bryan Robson's got VD,
If he comes too close he'll give it to me

First ones off are the last ones on
It's the Reds against the Mancs.

It's Pete Wiley v. Morrissey
The Bunnymen v. Joy Division
Cast against the Stone Roses,
....OK some you lose

It's hearing "In your Liverpool slums !"
It's "Posh Spice takes it up the bum"
It's boring, boring "Sign On ! Sign On !"
It's the Reds against the Mancs.

It's NO SONGS PLEASE ABOUT 58
No matter how they provoke or intimidate -
We've been through too much of that, mate,
Surely we've got the class of the great ?
It's the Reds against the Mancs.

It's a meaning-lost devil in your crest
Or a a Liverbird upon your chest
For we are men of Shankly's best
It's the reds against the Mancs.

It's usually at ungodly hours of morning
Cos of Sky & "police warnings"
Can our lads withstand the stormings ??
It's the Reds against the Mancs.

The bookies are offering four to one
What sort of planet are they on ??
(That's at Blue Square Dot Com)
Five in a row before the dream went wrong,
It's the Reds against the Mancs.

It's about who needs to catch who up,
It's ding-dong battles in League and Cup
It's when you need him, Super Danny steps up
It's the Reds against the Mancs.

Both cities have suffered past neglect,
Both clubs have suffered a loss of respect
Reap what you sow, cause & effect,
It's the Reds against the Mancs.

It's about your head, about your heart
Your identity, history, your craft and art
It's 40 miles, but world's apart
It's the Reds against the Mancs.

Though Ronaldo have shone all season and I could not be happier, I have some slight doubts whether or not he could keep up with a intense rival match like this one. There will many more tackles and I wonder if he can handle the tempo.

that's why I chose ole, a safe choice. He may not be as effective attacking but I think he can keep the ball well and he's played liverpool games before. I would try to tire the liverpool players a bit before getting ronaldo in second half. No matter what, I'm pretty sure SAF would use Ronaldo at some point of the game.

If I were Houllier I would use my youngsters later on in the game. Liverpool needs the creativity. This will be a very interesting match.

How many of you think it would be effective for SAF to use the Phil Neville man-mark tactic?

Should Phil be used to stop Hamann or Gerrard?
I personally think it may not work since Gerrard is known for his splitting fast long balls kicked in his own half.

That part of Gerrard's game amazes me. So damn accurate and fast. Crazy through passes.

When the teams were read out before the game there was one noticable absentee, Ruud Van Nistelrooy. 'Then again', I thought, 'we should be able to beat these without him because Saha's proving to be one of Sir Alex's best buys over the last 12 months'. As it turned out we missed our talismanic #10.

It was as bad as I've seen United play all season yet we looked the more likely to score, and didn't. That's what it came down to really, wasteful finishing and poor attacking play.

Over the past 12 months I've seen teams like Charlton, Birmingham and Southampton play at OT and it has to be said that this Liverpool team is the worst. How they are fighting for 4th I don't know, I believe that it is down to 1 man, Steven Gerrard.

Ronaldo had it easy on either flank, Fletcher had Riise in his pocket in the 1st half and Murphy in the 2nd. Our defense found it relatively easy to snuff out any Liverpool threat. All game long I can't remember 1 clear opening that Liverpool had as they were reduced to hoofing it at goal from 30+yrds out in the 1st half and nothing at all in the 2nd.

United on the other hand were defending comfortably but as soon as the ball got up to the final 3rd we'd give it away. Giggs cannot play support striker. He was non-existent for most of the game. When he got the ball he looked dangerous, but his passing was wayward and he just played himself out of it. Ronaldo was the only player who looked likely to create anything for us, and he did, but then the finishing was terrible.

Saha had a couple of chances which either went straight at Dudek or wide of the post, Giggs had a strike which hit both posts and Solskjaer missed the ball with an easy header. It just wasn't to be. But, we just weren't good enough and that's been the story of the season.

We were left thinking that if Ruud had played he would have scored a hat-trick quite easily. But it wasn't just his goal threat we missed but his ability to hold up play. It would've created spaces and it would've meant that Giggs would have played on the left where he is infinately more dangerous.

A few days after Poll labelled G Neville a diver we saw a diving peformance from Kewell. Poll had been dropped from the game because of 'injury', but the FA picked an able deputy. It wasn't a dirty game mind, and the ref had very little to do, but most of what he did was wrong. There was one incident which summed it up for me, a blatent handball by Riise in the 1st half. It wasn't one of those shouts where the ball is going towards the chest and the ball hits the arm, in this case the ball was going passed Riise and he stuck his arm out and 90degrees and it hit his wrist. A booking in anyone's opinion, but the ref wasn't even looking. He was more concerned with the corner flag at the opposite end of the ground.

Kewell is a waste of £5m imo. He did nothing on Saturday. I had expected to see something of him from his reputation and I was sorely disappointed. He did 2 things, a) Dived, b) refused to leave the pitch, argued the toss with the ref for a minute then went and argued the toss with the linesman.

However the ref got a couple of things right, Ronaldo's booking. I agree with Ronaldo that that was our throw in, but there's no need to lose your head like that and a booking was inevitable. The other decision was the penalty. I was sat at the opposite end and could see that Neville was a knob. Gerrard was going nowhere fast, so why lunge in like that? Silly tackle, definate penalty.

You can't blame the ref for what went on on Saturday neither. He wasn't bias he was just bad. The only thing that was worse than him was our play, yet we still created more than Liverpool. As I've said I've seen Birmingham create more chances and they're known as a defensive team.

When I got home and watched the highlights Gerrard Houllier was talking about his 'plan' and the pundits were talking of Liverpool's '2 banks of 4', all of which was crap. Liverpool won because United failed to create enough, and when we did create we wouldn't test Dudek. We had chances and you don't put them all away, but with the chances we had I'd still expect United to beat the poorest team I've seen at OT for 12 months by a goal or two.

Hey monkee i respect your opinion but i have to disagree ... once we get a manager who knows how to use harry kewell properly (david o'leary style) out on the left cutting in at the defence ... then we will reap rewards ... he has been played up front out on the right behind the strikers all season ... the games where he has started on the left have been his best ... as for him diving again i disagree ... even if he did (which i dont think) you could easily point the finger at Ruud or Neville and a few other united players have been known to fall easily ... the problem with diving is that a player does it once and is never forgiven (which he shouldnt be) but some one like francis jeffers ... dived against us last season at arsenal and i will never forget because its cheatting .... They need to bring in a video review of every match and any player caught to deliberately dive should recieve a caution after the match to add to his tally or a fine

You're probably right about Kewell. I'm just going on what I saw on Saturday though and it has to be said that the sum total of Kewell's efforts was a few dives, and an argument with the ref. He just whinged his way through the time he was on the pitch. On the basis of this season £5m is a lot of money for the return. Before the season, however, he looked a bargain at that price. It remains to be seen if someone comes in to reshape Liverpool, or if Houllier can do it himself.

I didn't mean to sound as if I was branding him a serial diver but on Saturday he was worse than the top heavy Emile Heskey. No need to bring up Ruud as a diver, he hasn't done that all season, as for G Neville, he's been slated by the United fans for his antics. Trust me on this, on Saturday Kewell was diving like their was no tomorrow, it was shambolic.

Totally agree with you on your last scentence. I've been saying that for some time.

well.. to me that 5 million pound is well spend considering the amount of goals he bring for us.. apart from owen he is our second highest scorer... if u want to compare on the basis of pound spend why don't u think about diouf? he cost twice as much as kewell, but just look at his record...:ewan: 42 matches since he last scores for us:ewan: transfer fee... 10 million pounds... :ewan: (H)

oh.. and btw kewell himself admit that he has under perform this season... :ewan: Link (http://www.liverpoolfc.tv/news/archivedirs/news/2004/apr/23/N144654040423-1345.html)

like i said from the start... houllier's best tactics is to bored every single person in the stadium to dead and hit the opponent when their are too bored... :ewan:
