View Full Version : Netherlands vs. Greece

Greece play the Netherlands in Eindhoven on April 28th

Here are the Greeks playing abroad who were called up:

Trianos Dellas, Takis Fyssas, Nikos Dabizas, Angelos Charisteas, Demis Nikolaidis, Zisis Vryzas, Georgios Karagounis and Stelios Giannakopoulos.
Ioannis Amanatidis has been named by Mr. Apostolakis for the U-23 match against Germany, which will be held on April 27 in Salonica.

I'm expecting Greece's unbeaten streak to end here. It should be a close game though.

Yeah, I don't know if they can beat Holland, although if they did I would be really happy.

This game could very well set the tone for how the team does in Euro 2004, so I hope they come out with a strong showing.

We will see we will see, Greek is a very strong opponent for us and a real testcase after France (0-0).
I think we can win it here at home if we play like we did against Scotland for instance :)
But like I said, Greece has some very strong players.
I think Yannis Anastasiou, new player for Ajax is a very good player too and will be a prospect for the future :p

He ain't really young... he's 31 I believe, I wouldn't call him a prospect for the future. He's definately not Ajax material in my opinion...

anyway i think Holland has too much class for Greece. Don't get me wrong though, Greece could easily pull an upset. But not in this match, i say Holland

it should be a good game. depends who starts the game for greece, espically our central defense. without kyriakos and kapsis it is diffuclt to field 3 who work very well together. i think it will be dabizas, dellas and goumas in the center but the problem will be lack of pace. also, please oh please bring in 2 good forwards ot the game. haristeas cant finish right now and vyzas isnt exactly tearing up the score chart either. i think to call papadopolous and then use haristeas next to him.

who do you think will start at keeper?

George Tziolas
23-04-2004, 05:16:AM
I heard that Papadopoulos is playing with the Olympic team. That would be too bad I'd love to see him and Nikolaidis play against the Dutch.

As for the keeper, I don't think that Otto will give up on Antonis.

I wonder if we will attack their weak defence by using Tsiartas and Karagounis both as attacking mids or play more defensively because of the strong Dutch firepower and use Karagounis(because of his workrate) as CM and have Zagorakis and Basinas as the two Defensive mids.

Nikolaidis was having a great season until all that stuff with AEK started and they decided to bench him.
Xaristeas needs to get out of Bremen. I would like to see him team up with Amanatidis in Frankfurt. Or maybe come to Olympiakos but I'm afraid he would suffer playing in the Greek league.

Yeah hi......Haristeas scored two goal coming off the bench two weeks ago(80') to draw a crucial game for Bremen....then they benched him!

Yeah hi....Nikolaidis has been used since he scored a tying goal a month ago(75')!

I don't think they are off their game at all, they just aren't being used because of politics on their respective teams. They shine on the national side and that is the point I was trying to make.

Greece will not roll over and die in this game.

Yeah Hi, Haristeas has been **** all year and to say otherwise is a bold faced lie . He might score a few off the bench, but he is not playing like a starter for Bremen. So i dont really understand how you call him one of the best in europe.

Yeah Hi Agaiiin, have you watched what nikolaidis does on the national team? he cant score in any games that are of importance. Maybe if this was 3 years ago i would say he is a great player, but he isnt now. He is the one that cost aek advancing last year in the cl you must not forget.

Haristeas and Nikolaidis are far from being some of the top european strikers, espically since they arent even the top greek strikers. papadapolous is showing he has a scent for the net which your 2 boys do not have. For the nt, i would morelikly want to see papa start with a partner of salgapiddis or amanatidis with haristeas on the bench or maybe starting next to papa depending on the style of the opposing defenders.

and i wonder what are the politics involved of not starting players who "should" be starting? is it the fact that one of them isnt as good as the others on the team? is it the fact that one has basically told the team he doesnt care about them and that hed rather just get a pay check and keep flying back to greece?

Dude...you're looking at stats and not performance.

Papadopoulos can't create goals. Haristeas and Nikolaidis can. They carry the ball with confidence and with them defenders. Right now Papadopoulos has 16 goals (1st in league)......half of them are from penalties.

Numbers don't mean squat.

Right now there are no politics. Rehangel is picking the best.

i haristeas regualry along with papadapolous and ive seen my fair share with nikolaidis. hasiteas for a big striker is good but cant finish. he doesnt have the scent for the net like strong strikers. i think that it would be good to start him next to a past striker, as i dont think hes a bad player, i just dont rate him as one of the best in europe as you do.
nikolaidis is fast but again he cant finish to save his life anymore. some years ago this wasnt the case but these past few years that is the truth. have you actually watched nikolaidis in the past couple of years? he isnt the same player anymore not to mention he has always been a medicore player at best for the national team.
papdapolous is turning out to be THE player greece has been looking for. he can finish with the best of strikers and has the speed too. i assume you dont actually watch any of the players, just like to run your mouth like this or you would realize that papadapolous has yet to even take a penalty.

and dont tell me i only look at stats not performance. i watch the players play and i call it how it is. why is it then that i think the best panathinaikos player is konstaninou? he doesnt have good stats but he is one of the best on the team. i suppose you like tsartas on the national team too then .

ok first off......I used the penalty comment to help you understand that what makes a scorer is not the amount of goals, but whether or not he can create them....and no matter how much you run your mouth...you will not convince me papadopoulos is Greece's top striker.....Papadopoulos makes served goals, he doesn't create goals.

...as far as the tsiartas comment....Papadopoulos isn't worthy to eat Tsiartas sh*t right now.....maybe in two or three years. When papadopoulos makes 1 goal off of a set piece, then maybe you can start comparing him to players of the class of Tsiartas.

As far as how many games I watch......your comment of Kostandinou is my answer to you. Kostandinou has been the biggest waste of skin PAO have ever spent money on. If they didn't have such a huge price around his neck, Kostandinou would be back playing D2 bench with f*cking "anastasis ths manas ths pafou". And in case you didn't catch the sarcasm because of the density of your skull, I'm sure you caught by the time you reach the period at the end of this sentence

taptone
27-04-2004, 01:30:PM
who serves papadapolous his goals? there is no play maker at the team he is doing the work he has to do. he is a finisher which is more then what you can say about most other greek striker.

class of tsartas? the guy who walks around on the field? the guy who has lost all motivation to play? you must be living in the past if you are that ignorant. and what does scoring from a direct shot on set pieces have to show what kind of striker papa is? papas job is not to go back and take free kicks.

and now you badmouth konstaniou. so i ask do you actually watch the games or just take peoples word on what happened? watch konstaninou next time. watch how he creates the goals, how he draws defenders away to open space up for papa. just because he doesnt score doesnt mean he isnt doing his job.

and im really glad you are now begining personal attacks. it shows real maturity and the fact that you just dont have much to say so why not go after me. just remember its easy to insult someone from behind a monitor.

well the lineup is as follows(normally without any injuries):
Van der Sar
Reiziger, Stam, de Boer(Heitinga, Bouma), van Bronckhorst(Zenden, Bouma)
van Bommel(Sneijder), van der Vaart(Seedorf), Davids
Van der Meyde(Overmars), van Nistelrooij, Robben(Overmars)

Rafael is more someone as Ronaldinho playing behind the strikers but he can be a striker too and he begun indeed on the left flank but is no more the creative midfielder if you know what I mean.

Probable line-up according to VI.nl

De vermoedelijke opstelling:
Goal: Edwin van der Sar.
Defence: Johnny Heitinga, Jaap Stam, Wilfred Bouma, Giovanni van Bronckhorst.
Midfield: Clarence Seedorf, Mark van Bommel, Rafael van der Vaart, Boudewijn Zenden.
Strikers: Patrick Kluivert, Roy Makaay.

Finally a regular 4-4-2. Thank god. At least this looks like a decent line-up.

At German TV (ZDF) They never stopped repeating that Greece collapsed because of the subs at half time :D but they forgot Greece did that too in the other 15 unbeaten matches.

Well actually you can't sub 5 players at half in non friendly games. Rehhagel started with his best team and they showed what they are capable of doing. Their bench players are not out of the same class.

Ah, my good friend Vince, how are you since last night? :D The point I tried to make was that the ZDF tried very hard to bring down the good result of Holland ;)

Didn't they also say Holland and the Czechs are the favourites in our group? ;)

You mean Beckenbauer? He talked too fast for me and I thought he was talking about the Czechs only, reaching the semi's...

Probably in the first half? I watched it then at SBS6, I started to watch it for fun in the second at ZDF and Holland then scored immediatly so I decided to stay at the ZDF :D

Nope, in the 2nd half. They couldn't show the first half due to the game in Romania...

Nice game for boudewijn. Only Chelsea player to have won silverware this season, and its good to see him play good after a shocking season at chelsea last year.

Loving those white shirts too :)

AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

Yes, we Greeks don't like Turks, and they don't like us. I have a few Turkish friends, but still, in general I don't like them.

Anyway, I'm glad to see that the starting team was able to keep the 0-0 against Holland for the whole first half. That made me a little proud. And well, losing 4-0, all I can say is thank God this happened now in a friendly, than in the actual tournament when it really matters.

My optimism for Greece in the Euro tournament is still high!
