View Full Version : This Pisses Me Off About The U.S
Emre_5 22-04-2004, 09:10:AM They have this Whole Poll on ESPN.com about Who's The Best Male Athelete? and its set up like the NCAA Tournament and you vote for the best athelete you have to pick between too and In One Bracket They Have Ruud vs Tiger Woods, Freddy Adu vs Andy Roddick and Henry vs Haile Gebrselassie.
In Another Bracket they have Totti vs Ichiro, Zidane vs Hermann Maier and Roy Jones Jr. vs Beckham.
Henry, Zidane and Adu have the majority of Their votes but Ruud is losing to Tiger Woods....Granted his a Hell of a Golfer but GOLF? Soccer is so much more Demanding then GOLF. How Can u vote a Top Golfer a better ATHELETE than a Top Soccer Player. Totti is losing to Ichiro which i think is wrong but thats doesnt piss me off as much and Beckham is losing to Roy Jones Jr. Roy Jones Jr. beating Beckham doesnt bother me at all cuz Roy Jones is just a beast in the ring and hes a great athelete...The thing that pissed me off alot was the Ruud Losing to Tiger Woods...
Heres the Link....

manutd4eva 22-04-2004, 09:14:AM ESPN - American channel
Tiger Woods - American
Roy Jones Jr - American
Majority of voters - American
Football not the most popular sport in America.:ewan:
Emre_5 22-04-2004, 09:17:AM Well i was born in America but i still Love Soccer anyway....I dont think Tiger should be beating Ruud but i Think Roy Jones should be beating Beckham that is justified.
manutd4eva 22-04-2004, 09:20:AM Not all Americans think like you and not all of 'em like football.;)

Voltaic Borusse 22-04-2004, 09:50:AM Don't get pissed off at the US, be pissed at espn.com, they're the ones who made that stupid poll.
You can't blame the US for having a small (if any) amount of knowledge about soccer.

Bobby 22-04-2004, 10:17:AM Tiger Woods is a better Golfer than van Nistelrooy is a footballer.

The Poll is best Athelete.
Bobby 22-04-2004, 10:24:AM I'd take woods in a fight over van Nistelrooy. If that helps the case any.

?? i didnt understand a word of what u were trying to say dude
Malenfant 22-04-2004, 10:49:AM I think Tiger has achieved a lot more .. he has been the top player in his sport for some great number of years in a row I believe .. the longest next to Sampras I believe. I could be wrong, but if thats true, I think thats better then Ruud. Don't get me wrong, I like Ruud, but he is not the best. It's just the first round anyway..
I dont think Adu deserves to beat Rodick either .. Rodick has won a major, Adu has 1 goal ... although he did do well internationally .. hmmm

Nimreitz 22-04-2004, 12:53:PM Honestly you should just shut up because everyone knows that Basketball and Football (AMERICAN FOOTBALL) players are the best athletes in the world. I can see a boxer in the running, I can see Thierry Henry, but I can't see any other sport (including soccer) as having the best athletes in the world.
Honestly, it's KG, you can't argue with that.

Bobby 22-04-2004, 02:09:PM where is Steve Smith?!
Go Rocco Baldelli, beat that bastard.
edit: what the hell is Dale Earnhardt Jr. doing on there?! :o

How the hell can you say freddy adu is the best male athlete, he has made what 3 sub appearances for DC United, and is 14, come on, pls. maybe in 10 years time, but not now, how do you compare someone who has jus started out, to someone like Barry Bonds who have now the 3rd highest ever home run hitter in the Baseball. or with Tiger Woods, winner of 7 majors and over $40 million in prize money.
Come on Tiger over Ruud, Ruud is one of many stars in soccer, Tiger is the top of his sport, i still remember in 97' when he won teh masters by 13 strokes as a 22 yr old
pennington10 22-04-2004, 10:43:PM It all depends on what you define athlete. If you define athlete as just a phyiscal thing then the award would go to Randy Moss or David Boston. They both are incredible quick, big, fast strong, and can jump high. Then again very little thought has to go into thought has to go into running a slant catching the ball and trying to get in the end zone. Which is all both of them do.
If you add in that the best athlete has to have some mental skills as well then I think they best athlete would be Ichrio. I know most of you will laugh at this but it is true if you think about it. He is lighting fast, has a cannon for an arm, plays great defense and can do the hardest thing in sports which is hit a baseball. Not only that but he hits it around 3.5 out of ten times which is incredible. It takes so much just make contact at the major league level. I mean hitting invovles so much mentally and physically that you have to be special to do it.
SB9Dragon 22-04-2004, 11:50:PM Simply put...
People from Canada, USA, Mexico, Central America=North Americans
People from the US=Americans
People from Central America=Central Americans
People from South America=South Americans
Its not that big an issue ;)
A SURFER beating Michael Schumacher!?!? Henry beating Gebrselassie!?!?! Tiger Woods beating RVN!?!?! :S
Americans
Bobby 23-04-2004, 02:29:AM Henry is superior to the other footballers on this poll, he makes RVN look like wounded dog in everything.
You're blinded because you're jealous.
Mikey 23-04-2004, 02:35:AM im SHOCKED they put any soccer player there other than Beckham. I thinks thats a step forward
Mikey 23-04-2004, 02:37:AM also, jones IS A BETTER athlete than beckham, nothing to do with him being american. This thread has no point AT ALL.
Bobby 23-04-2004, 02:39:AM That's true, very true.
Jones Jr is a MUCH better athlete than Beckham.
Mikey 23-04-2004, 02:41:AM once you read the line "soccer is the world's most demanding run, Man U is its elite team" you know they know nothing bout soccer.;)
Mikey 23-04-2004, 02:44:AM "at 14, he's blowing by 19-year-old guys, making them look less like professional athletes and more like beat-up Mercury Comets rusting out in front of double-wides" ummm, no he hasnt. They cant just come out and lie to make their argument. Adu has been really disappointing in his first 3 games (not bashing him, hes 14 yrs old, but he isnt tearing it up at the moment)

Yeah, if they knew anything about football, they would know that Boca Juniors(Intercontinental Cup) and Brazil(World Cup) are the worlds elite team.
Mikey 23-04-2004, 02:56:AM "if you're the best soccer player from Italy you need to be here." - Totti
Am i the only one that is REALLY enjoying wat they say about soccer players?
"if he wasn't an NB/NHL All-Star he could be playing professional soccer." - Sergei Fedorov and Steve Nash (his bro is on cdn soccer team)
is that true at all?
rhizome17 23-04-2004, 05:00:AM Hey, at least there are footballers on the list. Here, it would be between union, league, cricket, and maybe the odd golfer and jockey :/

ya, his 'credentials' are that he can withstand heat for a long time. When i worked at a restaraunt i had to deal with the same thing (was a waiter in a VERY hot kitchen), but i wouldnt consider myself a world class athlete.;)

I agree with you. It should be measured by how good you are in your sport not try to compare sports with each other.
But the picks are stupid... Freddy Adu and Beckham :kader:
Anyways Lance Armstrong should win he's a living legend and the best cycling athlete of all time, not to mention the overcoming of the cancer.
claupastore 23-04-2004, 07:09:AM then its stupid to compare athletes from two completaly different sports. golf - football :| wtf?
better this
golf - kick ball

Yeah, I don't know who Wilkenson is, but I voted for him. There are good odds that he's a better athlete than a 14 year old kid.
Run DMB 24-04-2004, 12:59:AM This is easily the most retarded thread I've seen in awhile. It's the ESPN Page 2 bracket, people. It's for fun. There's not some official award that's going to be given.
If you're getting all worked up about this, you're a retard. (H) (Y)
