View Full Version : The Best and Worst Transfers Of The Season
Well, I think the season is near a close and its safe to judge new players playing in new teams..
To me, the best transfer of the season has to be Kaká's £5.2m transfer from Sao Paolo to Milan. This transfer was certainly a gamble since Kaká was an unproven player. But Milan's gamble has certainly paid off. Kaká has so far scored 10 Serie A goals playing as Milan's 'trequartista' or better known as the main attacking midfielder. Besides scoring goals, he creates a hell lots of problems for the defence with his sublime pace and silky skills. And another mention should be the way he scores his goals. Almost ALL his goals for Milan have been excellent. My personal favorite has to be the one againts Celta Vigo. And some of you might argue that Ronaldinho has been a better transfer. I beg to differ since Ronaldinho certainly cost maybe 3 or 4 times more than Kaká and was already a household name.
As for the worst transfer of the season, I would give that accolade to Adrian Mutu. He was doing extremely well for Parma before joining Chelsea. And promised great things for the Russian owned club. But unfortunately, he failed to live to expectations. He would have been better staying at Parma and linking up with the future Italian superstar, Alberto Gilardino. But maybe the lure of $$$ was too great an opurtunity to miss. Now he is likely to leave the club and I hope he does better.
Kaka was very, very good. So was Tim Howard's transfer.
Ronaldinho and Beckham were pretty good
Mutu was a pretty bad transfer
A bad one was us letting Makelele go and not buying a centre-back
VanTheMan 03-05-2004, 01:05:AM great thread!
i'll say for man utd it is :the best-c.ronaldo.he has been outstanding and seems a massive one for the future.
the worst-djemba djemba
and for all of football.
i'd say kaka for milan is simply outstanding and only for 5.2m
the worst is also in my opinion mutu for chelsea, just like shevchenko says.
Punkt 03-05-2004, 01:07:AM for Benfica is simple we only made 4 transfers:
the best: Luisão and Fyssas
the worst: Alex and Thornton.

Elber2k3 03-05-2004, 01:09:AM Makaay to Bayern was the best.
The worst: Wichniarek to hertha
:)
Dream Team 03-05-2004, 01:13:AM Best: Ronaldinho and Kaka, both have been better than everybody expected.
Worst: Veron.

ok.
i'll say he was the least good out of our 5 buys this season
haha I totally forgot about Veron!
I'd say he has been the worst
(N)
VanTheMan 03-05-2004, 01:20:AM veron will be the worst wherever he goes.he is too much prone to injuries.
i think he should switch to managing like coleman
Spurs4Life 03-05-2004, 01:22:AM Best: Ronaldinho without a doubt!.
Worst: Postiga
Yossarian 03-05-2004, 01:24:AM Mutu is an attacking/playing midfielder........I blame his unfortunate season on Chelsea for not doing their homework and playing the poor dude out of position
Best is Kaká and Ronaldinho. Worst got to be Crespo to Chelsea, what a fiasco.
I change my mind... Postiga is the worst
unfortuneatly Veron and Crespo have been injured most of the year
If they are healthyI think they'd be great
Crespo has been better than Mutut though;)
shadowofanubis6 03-05-2004, 01:32:AM Crespo and Mutu never were consistently started, and whenever mutu got hot (remember he was very good at one point...) he'd only be benched by ranieri. Crespo was a mix of being out of shape and the tinkering. The best i think might be tim howard for the cheap price he came for. He's done a great job considering his first year in the premiership and having a bad defense for most of the year to deal with. Kaka certainly a close second for best. The worst? Veron.
Walkeranz 03-05-2004, 01:34:AM Worst transfer: Crespo to Chelsea and then replacing him with Cruz.
Best transfer: Moratti out Fachetti in
rony31 03-05-2004, 01:42:AM Best: Kaka to Milan
Worst: every midfielder to join Man City in the off-season
Yossarian 03-05-2004, 01:51:AM anyone know where the f uck Stephen Dalmat is? Is he still on loan at Tottenham? If so, how has he been? I would really like for Inter to call this awesome player back, man
ogsimon 03-05-2004, 01:54:AM best: Gaucho
worst Dalmat (LOL)
Spurs just recently kicked him off back to Inter
Amdy Faye 03-05-2004, 02:01:AM Lol yea he started a fight with a youth player or something lmao?
I wouldnt of thought he was like that!
Anyway for me the best in for Pompey have been Yakubu
The worst was Boris Zivcovic, he was an absolute joke!
I agree too Gaucho has been fantastic. Beckham's done well too.
Crespo has done okay in parts though? So too has Mutu, when ur actually watching them live they're a real threat and are good assets to the team. But I think with all the money in the world, Chelsea should/could of bought the best!
Pontiakos 03-05-2004, 02:14:AM this was a few years ago.....but this year it is certain that Konstandinou to Panathinaikos was a big mistake...
[ShReK] 03-05-2004, 02:28:AM Best: Ronaldinho :rockman:
Worst: Postiga :kader:
claupastore 03-05-2004, 02:52:AM this year kaka was awesome
but instead of looking to the past, ill just say that gilardino will be the best transfer of next season :) :hump:
oh and the worst thing: letting davids go :(
Zlatan 03-05-2004, 03:00:AM Best: Ronaldinho, Makaay, Kaka
Worst: All those pig buys from Abramovich(except for Crespo that is) and Danko Lazovic

Rusi ..please ask Roman if you can have Crapelele..........oops sorry Makelele back.....he is another overated piece of rubbish....thank God he is suspended and cant play this week...we stand a better chance without him.........
Aveirenses 03-05-2004, 03:08:AM I'm having a deep-laugh inside at all the Postiga nominations for worst transfer. :crazyboy: (H)
If you consider how much Spurs paid for him and how much goals he scored, he didnt do quite well. Although he hasnt been given much chances. I still think that there are better options in the Tottenham side.
Paulo Da Silva 03-05-2004, 04:02:AM for Porto:
BEST: Pedro Mendes, Benni, Carlos Alberto
WORST:Maciel, Sergio Conceicao,
Mikey 03-05-2004, 04:07:AM thinking JUST ABOUT SOCCER REASONS, id say Beckham has been the worst, for the amount they paid for him. Mcmanaman has been a flop for City as well. Kewell has really dissapointed, but they paid very little (than wat he was worth). Veron has been injured, so you cant really call him a flop.

bertkamp16 03-05-2004, 07:17:AM The best transfer has to be Kaka. I would strangle some one to death to bring that kid to highbury. He's awesome. But not only is he awesome, he's young, the ultimate double threat. Hard to believe that this kid isn't even near his peak. OUCH! He's gonna be absolutely world class in two or three seasons, maybe even sooner than that. I can see him being FIFA WPOY someday.
I don't understand people that consider Becks one of the worst transfers of the season. Considering what a fantastic talent he was before he went to Madrid, it's great to see that he proved all the haters wrong and became even better. Real Madrid's problems have nothing to do with Beckham. I'll tell you the stone cold, no holds barred truth. If Real Madrid were smarter with their money, they would easily be the most awesome force in world football by a mile. But they are more concerned with buying superstars than they are with winning. It's that simple. Real could easily buy world class defenders, and completely fix thier biggest weakness. Instead, they already think they are gonna get a hold of Thierry Henry. What f*cking sense does it make to bring Titi to the Bernabau?? For what they are gonna have to give the Gunners to get them to let him go (50+ mil) they can buy a whole friggin back line of defensive superstars. Another thing, why let Makelele go? He and Helguera were the bomb together. He was easily one of the most important players on the team, even more important than some of their galacticos. Makelele provides a service that is essential to every team, he's a consistent ball winner. But instead, they refuse to play him what he's worth, essentially spitting in his face, and let him run off to Chelsea. I'll stop ranting, but I have one more thing to say. Real would be a better team with Raul and Morientes and an awesome back line than with Henry, Ronaldo, Raul and whoever the hell else they throw into the attack and a crap backline. Period.

I didn't know he had become a father.
Well I think that next season, if he doesn't go away, he will play a lot better for manure considering him and ruud play pretty well together. Hey, which position is he playing? I'd really like to see him wear the Brazilian shirt again. Does he play on Scholes position or Keane's?

He has played just behind Ruud like Scholes and he has played in the centre and also right midfield. He's doine well and done some real classy moves (backheel to Forlan :rockman: :mrpimp: ).
He's been unlucky with injuries though, he's dislocated shoulder blew it for him.
Next year will be good for him.

17 - Henri Camara
Club: Wolverhampton
Shirt Number: 17
Position: Striker
Date of Birth: May 10, 1977
Birthplace: Dakar, Senegal
Height: 5' 10''
Weight: NA
Profile
Camara joined Premiership newcomers Wolverhampton Wanderers for a fee of £1.5million in July 2003.
The Senegal international, who signed a four-year deal, moved to Molineux from Sedan, who had just dropped out of the top flight in France. Sedan went down scoring only 26 goals - but Camara notched 14 of those.
He is a slippery customer out on the right flank, but his failure to provide a decisive finishing touch is often a criticism thrown at him.
Camara enjoyed spells with Strasbourg, Neuchatel Xamax and Grasshoppers Zurich, winning the Switzerland title, before landing at Sedan.
The forward had an impressive World Cup in 2002, scoring twice against Sweden, including the precious Golden Goal, as Senegal reached the quarter-finals of the tournament.

I hope he either helps bring Wolves back up or either joins another Premier league club and does well for himself. He had it tough doing the work by himself apart from when Kenny Miller helped him.
Oh well.
northstar 03-05-2004, 11:41:AM Best: Ronaldinho, Kaka, Davids

exactly my point

ricardo 03-05-2004, 01:43:PM In la Liga, the best transfer was Julio Baptista to Sevilla. Ronaldinho owns nowadays but he wasn't too cheap while Baptista was really unknown around here. I guess even Sevilla's board didn't know him quite well; I remember they said he would be the next Mauro Silva (defensive mid) and now look at this:
Ronaldo (Real Madrid) 24
Mista (Valencia) 19
Salva (Malaga) 18
Baptista (Sevilla) 18
Fernando Torres (At. Madrid) 17
Villa (Zaragoza) 17
Tamudo (Espanyol) 16
Eto'o (Mallorca) 15

WilliamFAlmeida 03-05-2004, 02:25:PM Wow....the Brazilian transfers were the best I see.....
Ronaldinho has to be the best though...he totally turned it up for Barca!
Kaka has also been fenomenal, as well as Baptista in his new position....
Man U's transfers were the worse I think...fletcher, djemba, bellion, and who? they did nothing this year....maybe next year theyll do better...Cristiano was a good buy....
Reyes ruled for Arsenal...Wenger knows how to transfer.....
Beckham was good for Madrid, but selling Makalele was STUPID!!

Best transfer of the season has to be Edgar Davids to Barcelona, Ronaldinho or ... John Stead to Blackburn. He saved them from relegation.
Worst transfer of the season or loan. Roque Junior.

Best loans: Morientes, Davids, Forsell
Worst transfer: I would say Mutu and Veron but considering that the money they paid is nothing to Roman i have to say Postiga to Tottenham.

Kulixs 03-05-2004, 06:13:PM Dno y everyone is on Saha's back, hes scored something like 7 in 10 games for man utd, that isnt bad at all.
Thelonious 03-05-2004, 06:18:PM Maybe its just a conicidence that when he started playing instead of ruud man utd turned to ****.
Fernandez 03-05-2004, 07:13:PM Best transfer is probably Ronaldo, Howard or Saha
No one is the worst

For me that's one of the best transfers in the Premiership.
Should that loan had not taken place, we wouldn't of gotten Reyes, I think. :p
fender 03-05-2004, 09:16:PM Best: Kaka, Ronaldinho
Worst: Jardel, Postiga and Veron
Oz_Leeds_Fan 03-05-2004, 09:25:PM For Leeds:

It could Van Persie if he becomes anything like Bergkamp.....
greglato 04-05-2004, 10:28:AM Worst : Lee Bowyer to Newcastle. He was a free transfer but even that was too much.
BayernBoz 04-05-2004, 10:31:AM Best: Makaay
Worst: Veron, Crespo, Mutu (All Chelsea Players)
take your pick.......it's one thing having money, it's another knowing what to do with it
mufc_daddy 04-05-2004, 01:36:PM I think Kevin Davies deserves a mention. He has done well for Bolton and has changed the way people look at them. They are a tough team to beat. He's also put his own career back on track.
Impossible not to say Makaay. He's scored 30 goals in his first year, 22 of them in the league, 4 goals behind the top sccorer. He's simply amazing. Our midfield isnt that good at the moment, even not in top shape, and he managed to score 30 goals!
Payukgcn 04-05-2004, 05:53:PM Best: Ronaldinho, Kaka, C. Ronaldo, The loan of Morientes
Worst: Beckham, Rustu, and Queiroz LOL

Huh.. Why is Beckham the worst?
Beckham was good business and should not be blamed for Real's disasterous season.
If you want to blame something, blame the transfer of Makelele to Chelsea.
PaPaGeorGeo 04-05-2004, 06:37:PM You cant say the Veron one was bad He has been Injured like all season give him a chance next year
dobrin1980 04-05-2004, 06:53:PM Worst - Rustu - his hands are made of cheese.

I think you mean Ghaddafi ;)
He may be the worst buy for Perugia but their best definately has to be Ravanelli. Scoring the goal that beat Juve alone made him a great buy (H)
AcesHigh 06-05-2004, 11:25:AM Who the hell is this Ronaldo playing for Manchester United?
And what about ANTONIO CASSANO?? I dont know if he was transfered this year to Roma, but he sure KICKS ASS!!

SoloLaRoma 06-05-2004, 02:24:PM kaka was a good transfer, but just as impressive was the transfers of:
Christian Chivu and Mancini (off loan from venezia)
ok we knew chivu was good...but not one of the best D's in the world. Helped Roma get the best defence in Italy. Too bad samuels going :(
Mancini...wow...after playing the benchwarmer in serie B this guy comes out of nowhere....unbelievable and has replace cafu to a tee (Caf-who?)
Worst:
Legrotaglie to Juve....just seeing Moggi so happy he 'stole' him from Roma, and seeing him flop...looks good on that loser Moggi :kader:
Caf-who the guy who captained Brazil to yet another World Cup
Lonestarr022 06-05-2004, 03:59:PM Has Zach Thornton even played a minute in goal for Benfica?

ah comeon sarcasm is the spice of life :mrpimp:
No doubt about his achievements and ability, but i remember @ the beginning of the season i was worried about the void left by Cafu - luckily Mancini will prove to be the next Cafu
Rüstü 07-05-2004, 03:24:PM Best transfer from Turkey Pierre Van Hooijdonk. He has scored 22 goals this season and last 2 weeks.
