Scots fans abuse sickens Larsson

Henrik Larsson will leave Celtic with many happy memories but the Swede admits he will not miss the savage abuse from the terraces that is a fact of life at many Scottish grounds.

Larsson, who brings the curtain down on his seven-year Parkhead career with a farewell match against Seville on May 25, said he had been frequently shocked by the ferocity of supporters' verbal attacks on certain players, with team-mate Neil Lennon a regular target.

"It's scary to see," Larsson said. "We are only footballers.

"We play football but other than that we are just the same as everyone else. I don't understand it.

"You don't know the guy. Why would you hate somebody you don't know?

"The hatred you encounter in some of the grounds that you go to is just frightening especially when you see a grown man standing next to a kid and throwing verbal abuse at you.

"It does sicken me. Everyone wants to stamp that out in football but when you have kids watching that kind of thing then it will always be there."

.................................................. .................................................. .....

It's kind of frightening when u think about it. They are just soccer players playing a competitive sport but there are some fans that go too far. Yelling verbal abuse, making threats... these things aren't part of the game. We need more peace in our world in these times, not hatred.

Well, the footballers are right. It's serious BS of what some fans do to footballers. I would be scared sh*tless if some fans were threatening me. You could be walking down the street and some idiot that you don't know can simply come up and beat the living hell ouf of you. It's scary and it's wrong! :kader:

Ronaldo and Ruud will have gotten worse.
Most players react well with the abuse, it makes them even more determined to win, and show em up.

Nethertheless, i is disgusting.

Roma fans are the most sadistic!!!!!!!!

This shiet happens all the time in South America. Why do you think La Bombonera(home of BOca) has huge metal fences all around. But I dont think they should be allowed to throw bombs like those Roma thugs.

Another weegie biased article anyone? :kader:

In the Daily Glasgow here they have printed some Save Our Hearts members as hooligans. Considering SOH uses peaceful protest, and has condemned violence used in their name on several occasions, the weedgia still post this.

It's also interesting that they'll refuse to report a plane having to emergency land, or children needing stiches from objects thrown by Old Firm fans. Yet, if you have someone boo a player (who is, by all means, scum) or throw a notepad at a journalist....

You'll get several articles blasting you. :)

One sort of comeback i like is, when Danny Murphy is taking a penalty, all the opponents fans are shouting abuse at him, then when he scores, he runs up to them with his finger on his lips, it embarasses the fans.

There's something else on their "website" (May 6th) which may be of interest ...

FOOTBALL IN THE DOCK ... 6 INCIDENTS THAT SHAMED SCOTTISH GAME

Now what could incidents 5 and 6 possibly be?

March 2004: Under-fire Hearts chief Chris Robinson is attacked by a fan after getting approval to move to Murrayfield. Robinson was pinned to the ground by a mob outside Tynecastle and punched in the face, head and body. A club security guard dragged the yob off the chief executive and helped him inside.

May 2004: Celtic boss Martin O'Neill accuses Hearts fans of racism after a second-half flare-up at Tynecastle during the 1-1 SPL draw. Former Northern Ireland star Lennon was targeted by home fans who leaned over the barrier to shout abuse. O'Neill said: 'I find it quite interesting to see him racially abused everywhere he goes. Then, when he puffs his cheeks up, fans want to draw the ref's attention to it.'

You couldn't get away with this in Orwell's 1984 even if you replaced Newspeak with Weegiespeak ...
