I like the sound of the new one touch implement, and create a player should be alright....Maybe we should make this the official pre- release review thread?

Maybe. They also said about the weather, I hope it's dynamic. It would make the game much more realistic and change flow of play.

I can't wait to read the hand-on previews...very interesting!

Hell yeah! I'm going to have to buy Xbox live now haha. I never bought it before because FIFA didn't go live last year.

I just hope it isn't too expensive.

I really don't understand what they mean by the "one-touch" system. Could someone elaborate?

Well, this is my take on it.

Say in real life a player might be running and receive the ball from a lob, he can either take a one touch on it and try and control the ball while STILL running to not loose pace, or he (if not good enough, or if unlucky) might have to STOP, control the ball, AND THEN start to make his run again, which will slow him down.

Basically, the speed you do the first touch and the capabilities of that player you're in control with will either be able to keep on track and not loose pace, or he'll have to stop and control it.

And I'm 100% it goes much deeper than this! I think this could be a nifty feature and not a gimmick, because this is like in real-life, no one wants to have to stop to control the ball.

But something tells me this is just one of many new features.

the idea sounds pretty lame to me, "first touch control" lol :kader: this sounds like a basic thing that should be in a soccer game but in EA's book basic things are always a new feature:kader: :kader: whats next shooting the ball while still running without breaking stride?? wow EA i bet that will make it go even faster than the rocket powered shots we have already.

They mean they are going more in depth with it.

In euro you can do the same thing but you do not have control over where the first touch goes. Now they are sayiing you can hit the first touch in front of you, turn it behind you keep it close ect.

I would be cool. IN 2004..even the best players in the game have a lame first touch and lost the ball easily. U cant tell who is good and who isnt!

May 12, 2004 - Each year the FIFA franchise proves to be one of the world's most popular soccer games because it's so accessible and perhaps more than anything, it's got so many teams (500), players (15,000) and licenses that it's actually got more licenses in it than all of EA's other games combined. Now that's a lot of licenses. That's something we already knew, but that we thought you'd still want to know.

Numbers are important, but so is playability, and last year's FIFA Soccer 2004 did several things new for the franchise and for soccer games in general. First, the development team incorporated off-the-ball control, giving players the ability to pass to themselves using unique off ball controls. Second, it was the first console soccer game to go online. And third, it packaged some of the coolest and eccentric collections of bands together in a sports game that we can remember. But the game still left players wanting. Animations got in the way, the online was rather hectic to get going, and it still didn't feel all that realistic.

This year's edition is a revamp of sorts, with extra special effort going into the gameplay department --specifically quick movement and precise control -- and more emphasis placed on the authenticity of the stadiums, announcing, and regalia surrounding the event.

"First Touch," a term taken from the athletes who play the game for a living, refers to the first time a ball touches a player's foot. And more importantly, what that player intends on doing with the ball in that first meeting of leather to leather. EA's team realizes that the highly designed animations in last year's effort were good looking, but they got in the way of the gameplay, and more importantly, they got in the way of realism. EA showed IGN several realtime of players using the first touch of the soccer ball to pivot and explode down the field, to fake and pounce on an enemy's weakside, or to instantly lead a teammate down to goal. Any way one looks at it, EA's previous game prevented players from doing such a thing.

FIFA Soccer 2005 is designed to seamlessly blend animations and to eliminate unnecessary ones so that players can instantly pivot and burst down the field, increasing responsiveness, instant improvement and quickness with the ball. The quicker animations aren't just for your team, they're for all the players on the field, so the responsiveness therefore opens up a faster game, and a more aggressive AI, which on the offensive side moves toward the open seam, and on the defense, closes it up faster and more aggressively. With a quicker set of players, EA said it's also working on creating an easier-to-access off-the-ball gameplay, which worked in part last year. No word was given on how exactly it would be improved.

Still, EA is intent on getting things right. Looking back at 2003's efforts, the lighting and camera angles didn't give players the most authentic and most realistic looks at the pitch. EA plans this year to give gamers a TV-realistic view of the field before the game, during it, and with superb replay action. At least for now, the game is supposed to be online only for PS2 and PC, though with the possibility of EA and Xbox tying a knot, this might be the year of FIFA online on Xbox.

In another interesting move that seems to be rampantly moving through EA's development teams is the quest for the ultimate Create-A-Player (CAP) mode. Using it's own specially designed Create-A-Player engine, EA's FIFA team gives players the ability to change what seems like an infinite amount of subtle facial aspects to a player. You can alter the size and shape of players' chins, eyebrows, eyes, lips, neck, hair and skin.

In short, FIFA Soccer 2005 is, in many cases, being re-created from the ground up. We'll have hands-on play in the oh-so-near future.

Sounds like there really improving more on the gameplay, so thats a start, but umm I'll just wait on there first impressions of the gameplay itself and hopefully by the time E3 is over we'll have that to work off of...

I like the create-a-player but it sounds like we cant edit real players, that would suck.

SlowSilver
14-05-2004, 04:04:AM
Read it again... I think it DOES mean that you can edit a player. But it might not be like that because I remember EA saying(a while ago) that players signed a contract so people wouldn't change their appearence.

It seems pretty realistic this year looking at the videos, but every year it seems better and more 'real', but you can never be sure until you've played it and read the previews from those that aren't biased.

It LOOKS like this might be a fantastic game, but you can't be sure at all, THIS IS FIFA WE'RE TALKING ABOUT! lol, it now has a reputation of selling itself as a licensed product, rather than a game to play and enjoy, it's ridiculous. FIFA 2004 started to bend towards gameplay and I think EA really will concentrate on gameplay this year, but at the end of the day, it's ALL hype and we can only hope that FIFA 2005 lives up to it.

If it doesn't, then screw it basically, you don't have to buy it and help EA make more unrealistic football games...

No it doesn't. You click on the windows player one and then when the window pops up you press the link and you can download it. If it asks for a password it does not require money. Just give them your email adress and create a free account. No money required:)

Well its true vidoeos are videos, but once an ingame video is released then we could see how it will somewhat work and see what diffrences are there from '04 but of course playing is a diffrent story, I for one liked '04 because of the fact that the ball wasnt always "stuck" to your foot and it was deff better than '03, gameplay wise was great, like I said I for one enjoyed it but yes it could always be better, To me keep the graphics the same (which it looks like it will be) and work on the animations, get them up to par with the controls so that you dont have that delay time which to me is really hurting the fifa series, Better AI, better goalies (animations etc...) And just plain old gameplay, more moves and configure the controls better.... other than that, work on the creation center (players, doubt you could edit real players seeing how they are licensed, but hey you never know) and yes deff work on career mode, just like Madden, owner mode (gain money from tickets, merchandise etc.. and watse it on contracts, coaches, maintanence on the stadium etc...) Deff work on all areas accept the graphics lol, plain and simple...
