View Full Version : Euro 2004 is almost here
Arsenal4life2 20-05-2004, 09:29:PM cheers to all,
It has been a while since i have posted, college is finally out.
Anyway since euro 2004 is just about here, i thought to celebrate the tourney i would start my own euro 2004 with england. I think i am going to do all of their qualifying games that they did in real life, and then go on to the actual tournament. And of course take England all the way to the championship, just as they will do in real life. This should be alot of fun.
I was also thinking of posting my match reports.
Please post if you all are doing the same and share your match reports.
cheers :mrpimp:

All around the world PES/WE7 is praised for its realism, but you seem to end the realism by making England Champs :D

Haha! Yeah. But he's got a nice idea there. I could start my own EURO 2004 also in WE7:I. Unfortunately Finland didn't make it. ;)
So I guess I have to play with Germany or something...
...but about those qualifications Arsenal bud...are you going to simulate somehow the other qualification group's matches? Or only England's? And what if different team gets to the tournament from your group than in real life? Or what if you place on 2nd place and you have to continue to "qualification play-off" stage? What team will you compete with then? There's many buts...but not butts... :crazyboy:

heh, I remember someone once made a sig quoting "Best FIFA 2004 feature : exit to windows"
that was hilarous
Wannabe 21-05-2004, 02:37:PM Hell ya!
So hyped for EURO2004!
I've been updating the rosters just so I can pre-play the games.
I'm gonna be playing some of my fav teams games before the actual game to get in the hype!

I can't remember who it was who had that sig (was it shokz?) but it was so funny (H)
Todger 21-05-2004, 03:28:PM I think England have a good chance if the players live upto their names and talent.
however most people are saying the french will win it.
I have a feeling spain will finally win a tourney
tomat 21-05-2004, 03:45:PM Italy rulez!
(H)
Zakov 21-05-2004, 03:45:PM don't forget the German and the Italians as well. They seem to produce great perfomances in major tournaments.
But i think i'll start my own campaign in PES3 using France
because they have quality players all around the pitch.
;)

Sorry, I am defenitly not opposed to England, but about what talents are you talking? I know Beckham, also Lampard but then? Scholes and Owen did not have a great season and Rooney is overrated IMHO. Apart from that, they have a problem at lefthalf and in central defense where they have a long term suspension and a long term injury. I think England should be happy to overcome the group-stage. I know the premiership is one of the strongest leagues in Europe, but the most important players of the strong sides are foreigner, so that can mislead your hopes for Englands succes. Still, I wish the English good luck, because I like watching them :)
I think France and Italy are favorites, Holland and Spain outsiders.
Zakov 21-05-2004, 04:51:PM dude....its Lampard......
Well, okay, typo, big deal... do you spell all Dutch names correct? ;)
Zygalski 21-05-2004, 05:45:PM Yes! Von Mistelroom!! (H)
LOL that's exactly what I mean: I every day almost stumble over these kind of spellings ( Kliuvert Crijuiff, van der Saar :D ) and I stopped a long time ago to correct it. Now they start correcting me :D
gluecif3r 21-05-2004, 10:30:PM Nistelrooy is englified isn't it? I think I've seen it spelled Nistelrooij or something.
Who cares though, he's still a c***.

cheers to all,
sorry it took me so long to respond but my internet has been acting up lately. As far as the qualification and what teams are in it i was just going to play individual friendly matches of the teams that england actually played to qualify for euro and then do a european cup and insert the teams in their respective groups. if things don't work out as they do in real life i don't really care it is just fun to do.
in response to the actual tournament, i know it is wishful thinking for england to win Euro, but a lot of times soccer is a crazy sport and if the ball bounces our way we might just win it who knows? we have been very unfortunate in the past however
i do feel that alot of english players are overrated too, namely beckham sure he is good but he is not as good as many lead him on to be, but that is just my opinion.
cheers:mrpimp:

ChRIsA 22-05-2004, 12:28:AM I think England have a good chance this year. You look at the prem this year and 2 of the best players were gerrard and lampard, both england players. Then u also have Beckham, scholes, owen and campbell who are all also world class. TBH though I think france or maybe holland will win it, they both have superb attacking players and they will be hard to stop.

not according to the bookies
heres the latest odds
France 3/1
Italy 9/2
Portugal 11/2
England 7/1
Spain 7/1
Holland 8/1
Czech Republic 14/1
Germany 20/1
man for man i think the dutch have the best team but never seem to produce the goods.
englands chances rest on the opening game against france ,if we lose that i fear the worst.
ill be having a tenner on the czechs . theres a team you want to avoid.

well thanks for your insight but in trying to describe englands players you missed out our most inform player and potentional the player of the tournament.
GERRARD
he has the ability to cut any team to pieces with laser guided 40 yard passes and his powerful runs.
If gerrard had been fit to goto Japan in 2002, Brazil would have been beaten, thats how highly I rate him
His two problems are his fitness and his silly tackles now and then
Wayne rooney isnt overated, he is however a child, i know that I have seen him in a pub with his minders and he has that child like glaze about him. Add to that he is in a crap english team that hasnt performed well, if he was in Arsenal or United he would have excelled more.
Owen is highly overated(and im a liverpool fan) but when hes inform no one does what he does better.
John Terry at Chelsea has had an excellent season and I would match him against Stam any day.
U speak about the dutch very well but they have hardly hit the high note in quite a while, if Van Nis fires blanks u definately wont win it.

we all have the same problem,dude..:crazyboy:
big al 22-05-2004, 04:38:PM i always go with underdogs or black horses sowatch out with tha czech republic; some will be surprise on how far this team will go; althouth they already have a final against germany; they have a really mature and playmaking midfield with rosicky, poborsky and nedved; plus i think they have a really good young defense with coveted players like grygera, ujfalusi, jankulovski and hubschman; this last two are pretty sure to play with juventus next season ; maybe tha problem could be the offense because they dont goalscoring strikers but i think baros and koller can manage so i think they can go all the way.
if tha czech republic dissapoints; i think denmark could the suprising team too because they have a pretty decente midfield and offense.
lplover2k2 22-05-2004, 04:59:PM France said that czech republic is a very good team which can d well in euro and i think so too;with players like Nedved ,Koller,Baros,Smicer and Rosicky;all of them worl-class players.

holland and Spain are good on paper
Denmark and Czetch Republic are the outsiders
England,Italy and France are the favourites.
Zakov 22-05-2004, 07:54:PM England,Holland and the Czech Republic are favorites.France, Italy and Portugal are the strong favorites.Portugal could do very well with their home advantage and watch out for the Germans.
But lets hope it will be a good and exciting tournament unlike Korea and Japan 2002.There too many shocks in the early rounds(France were awful and Henry also got sent off in the second game) and in the end Brazil won the World Cup rather too easily IMO. so i hope at least the favorites go thru the early stages. But keep in mind that there would be some shock defeats like in the France vs England game, cuz that game could go either way.I hope Sven will pick Lampard in the starting 11 cuz he was the best English player last season and it will be interesting to see how well he plays alongside Stevie Gerard and Becks.

well i have to disaggre; the reason because i loved world cup 2002 was because of the many suprising revelation teams like senegal, turkey ,USA and maybe even germany because no one thuoght they would make that far; i love tournuments like that; and i hope the euro 2004 could turn out the same.
