Damn, That ref sucked soooooo damn bad. He's a piece of ****. He gave Hagi a Red card when it should have almost been a penalty. He was clearly pulled. Then the dirst damn goal was soooo offsides. Inzaghi that overrated bastard was 5 feet offsides. HAGI HAGI HAGI ROMANIA ROMANIA ROMANIA

Chill out - the man offside was Cannavaro, but it was PASSIVE. Got it?

And what penalty? I heard 3 TV-stations: Italian, German and Austrian. All 3 said it was a clear dive and a clear booking. You should be happy that old man Hagi was not sent off for that FREAKING foul on Conte.
I guess you really can't complain about the ref, he called so many damn freekicks for those posers.

Fotbalguy
24-06-2000, 09:48:PM
PASSIVE? Where the hell were you? He was 5 feet offsides. Oh and Hagi he was clearly pulled. Oh by way. Remember Albertini when he fouled Hagi. That should have clearly been a red card. Hagi didn't even have the ball and Albertini took his legs out from behind. I'm not saying that Italy should not have won but it just pisses me the hell off when the ref can call the score of the game. In the 2nd half Italy had almost no chances and Romania should have scored. The ball hit the damn post. Both teams played good.

Zambrotta
24-06-2000, 09:53:PM
Do you know what passive offside means? It means that the game keeps on when the player offside is heading "in"side and does not have a **** to do what happens with the ball.

Totti and Inzaghi were clearly INSIDE, Cannavaro might have been offside 10 feet, but it was passive.

And by the way, I honestly think Romania played better than Italy, but Hagi let his team down again, and this time it hurt.

Footballguy:

I can only agree that Albertini should have been booked, if not red carded, on the foul on Hagi. But the ref was correct in booking Hagi on the dive...his shirt was not touched. It was not a penalty. And I do not belive he called the game in Italy's favor. Period.

I agree with you Jambo. Romania are useless.

They drew with crap Germany and had to come from behind to beat crap England.

Kill4Benfica: again, I did not want to take anything off Portugals great performance. If you however think that the ref treated Romania bad, then I hope you mean it, and not only intend "strike back" on my post.

I repeat: Hagi should have been sent off for that foul on Conte.

Yep, if u think Albertini should have gotten red for the foul on Hagi, why don't u think Hagi would have gotten red for his tough challange on Conte ? http://www.soccergaming.com/ubb/smile.gif

Second, A PENALTY!?!?, very funny, even worse then the Inzaghi dive...penalty,ha!

Shut up shearer, atleast Romania made the best 8 of europe something that can't be said about England.... I did feel Romania should have been awarded 2 penalties the reffing was awful, maybe you people should listen to me more... It's ok Romania, should be proud, they got to the quarters of the Euro, in the process knocking off England too. http://www.soccergaming.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

Hagi's Farewell..!!

Rightly booked for a poor challenge on Conte
that may have ended the Juve skipper’s tournament, Hagi’s fitful participation in the championships finished with a red for a hopeless dive inside the Italian area, when Zambrotta hadn’t touched him.

Still he couldn’t believe it when he was dismissed, falling to the ground, head in hands, before trudging off disconsolately to lukewarm applause and a sympathetic pat on the back from Dino Zoff.

fu*king Albertini,

he is such a cheating little useless w*nker.

i i saw him now i deck him out and bust his ****ing leg, like he did to hagi.

Hagi's little toe-nail is worth more than Albertini will ever be.

Are u guys stupid?? I just watched over the game which I taped and it shows that Zambrotta clearly pulled hagi's shirt. You can even see Hagi's shirt being pulled back. The commentators on itv or payperview in usa even said that hagi was touched and pulled. Oh yeah, fu**ing albertini's tackle was the worst i've seen in euro 2000 and all he got was a yellow card. This is a bunch of bull****.

You are confused Mrkovic!

Knocking off England isn't an achievement! Any team could do that right now!

Romania were in an EASY group to qualify. Portugal were clearly the best and Germany and England sucked. So did Romania.

They just squeezed by two AWFUL teams and qualified second.

They got the drumming they deserved.

THAT WAS A DIVE .Rai said so,TSN commentators said so and those Brittish commentators said so ,secondly the ref was right in front of him when it happened .Hagi is a cheat and a disgrace for what he has done in this tournament .He may have had a great career ,but he sucked in euro2000 and was often booked .

Paolo Rossi; I am watching the reeplay right now on slow speed on my VCR and u can clearly see that Hagi was pulled. I do have respect for Italy and their win but it just pisses me off that Hagi was improperly sent off. He did not grab the jersey,he just touched him ,and that incident is as similar as the one of Inzaghi who was also grabed ,but he exaggerated by falling down,the same thing with Hagi .Not only every commentators agrree that it was a dive ,even www.dailysocer.com thinks the same way ,here is the article ;
Italy win 2-0 as Hagi sees red
By Gideon Long
BRUSSELS (Reuters)(DS) - Italy beat Romania 2-0 to reach the semifinals of
Euro 2000 on Saturday as Gheorghe Hagi bowed out of world football with a
red card.
The Italians scored twice in the space of 10 minutes towards the end of the
first half to set up a last four clash with either the Netherlands or Yugoslavia.
Francesco Totti grabbed the opener in the 33rd minute and Filippo Inzaghi
added a second in the 43rd minute with his first goal for either club or country in
over three months.
Romania started the second half brightly but their dreams of reaching the
semifinals of a major competition for the first time ever ran aground when Hagi
was dismissed.
The 35-year-old, the guiding light of Romanian football for over a decade,
was booked in the 54th minute for a foul wich put Juventus midfielder Antonio
Conte out of the match.
Five minutes later Hagi went down dramatically in the penalty area under no
pressure from his marker.
Portuguese referee Vitor Manuel Melo Pereira was not fooled and reached
for his red card, sending Hagi back to the changing rooms.
From then on, Italy were always cruising towards their first European
championship semifinal for 12 years.

hEy FutbolGAY...... are u really serious about that foul in the box WHEN HAGI TOOK A DIVE? Are you blind? What are u a fu**ing moron? WHERE EXACTLY DO U SEE HAGI'S SHIRT BEING PULLED? I DONT KNOW WHAT THE HELL U ARE SEEING AND I LIVE IN AMERICA AND WATCHED THE GAME ON.... PAY PER VIEW AND ARE U ****ING DEAF!!!! MINCHIA!!!! THE ENGLISH COMMENTATORS ALL CLEARLY SAID THAT HE SHOULD OF BEEN SENT OFF FOR DIVING!!! I DONT KNOW WHAT THE F*CK U LISTEN TO!!! DAMN I NEVER heard of SUCH SORE LOSERS IN MY LIFE!! Yes Romania did play better than Italy because Italy's style is to pass back and a lot of time lose the ball and Romania always has posession of the ball.... When Del Piero went in he was soo pissed he didnt even want to play.... All Totti did was score a goal.... I gotta say... Fiore has been great through out all the qualifying matches and helped Italy soo much... But the game against Romania... I swear to you I only heard his name like 4 times the whole game.... Yes I think Fiore is very good and Italy needed him to get through but where was he against Romania... He made one good play to Inzaghi (Which I think should really get substituted for Montella) and thats it... And one shot that arrived to him bad and he shot it over the bar... Yes Albertini's foul was very bad and deserved a yellow.... maybe even red but what the ref does not see cant do nothing about it.... How about Couto holding his nose after the turkish guy like barley thouched him on the chest? The Ref clearly went in Romania's favor...... DEL PIERO INSTEAD OF TOTTI !!
He can carry the ball much better than Totti but both are good finishers... And Montella can control, pass, and carry the ball 1000000x better than Inzaghi
Until the 29th... when either Itlay plays Holland or Yugoslavia
PEACE!

Let me just add two cents, I watched the replay closely and yes it was a dive by Hagi, the commentators said said so during the game and the replay showed it. Also when they said the decision was harsh they meant the decision to give him the second yellow for it.

And the off-side was passive, no doubt about it not even a close call. I just think fotbolguy is just losing his mind a bit because his home team lost.

all u Italian fans say Hagi dived...

... bet we all know Inzaghi, Del Piero etc would have dived if they were in hagis position.

Diffence is that an italian would have done 4 to 5 roles on the ground, and grabbed his own head in pain....

...the Italian would also have got the penalty.

""it should have almost been a penalty. He was clearly pulled.""

Erm. Hagi was touched by a defender, not pulled or anything, then dived about 10 minutes later. He should've been sent off for the first disgraceful foul anyway, and it was a blatant dive that earned him the yellow

2 goals: First where Inzaghi had a 1 on 1 with the keeper, when he ran from a good distance ONside.

Second where Cannavaro was in an offside position but NOT interfering with play

I'll add my 2 cents.

Hagi dived! Was it worth a second yellow. honestly the referee decided the game then and there, I personally would have let it go.

Albertini is a great player but he fully deserved a card, should it have been red, I don't think too many refs would give it, unless we are saying a foul on Hagi is worse than a foul on any other player, thats not in the rules, this is not the NBA.

Offsides Yes and not passive Cannavaro took two defenders with him when he moved therefore he affected the play and therefore it should have been ruled offside, in fact if you look at when the ball is played inside, two italians are in an offside position. Bad decision.

Romania played Germany first, there were was still an aura of invincibility about the Germans then, England dispelled that. romania played well the Italians played to win, they are patient and just wait, the Dutch better be ready because the Dutch have no patience, the Czechs proved that.

This was a tough group and don't be surprised if Portugal pull off the shock of the tournament, Spain gave France all they could handle and Portugal is quicker than Spain upfront. There will be alot of goals. France cannot sit back and wait and Portugal cannot defend, England proved that.

This is the best Euro Champioship I have ever seen.
