took from another forum

F1 Racing asked 77 people to help produce a list of the top 100 F1 drivers.
Many of them are journalists, although there were 16 former drivers (5 WDCs)
and a few team principles. 43 are British.

Each of the judges was asked to nominate their top 25 in order and the final
list was made by awarding 25 points for being ranked first, 24 for second,
etc., down to one point for ranking 25th.

I imagine that most judges would have quite similar top 20s so those ranked
outside the top 30 are only there because a handful of judges ranked them
at all. For example, only one judge put Ralf in his top 25 (22nd best of all
time!), so those four points got Ralf into joint 84th. Only the top 30 has
much meaning, and only if you think that the "judges" know anything about F1
anyway - I can accept James Allen (without agreeing with him), but Jim Rosenthal!

my favourite ones (clark and senna) are top 5. (Y)

here's a little tribute i made a month ago (for may 1st) to a friend of mine (camila, dragan (H)). she asked me to make any image (in 500x500, so she could upload it to fotolog.net - http://www.fotolog.net/bymila/?photo_id=7767143) using the photo on the left.

Michael Schumacher would be my No 1 choice, then Senna, then Fangio. But Schumacher still has years left, so he should be known as the NO 1 of all time at the end of his career.

schumacher would be somewhere between 5th and 15th on my list.

it'd be a high place considering i don't like him a bit.

Schumi is very arrogant but he will be seen as the best of all time in at least ten years.

Senna and Prost the best ever and for ever. :)

Alonso 34 (Y)

I agree. He has smashed all the records and has had a amazing, long 13 year career which is still going.

the best answer for those "weird" results are in brian's third paragraph:
I imagine that most judges would have quite similar top 20s so those ranked outside the top 30 are only there because a handful of judges ranked them at all.

You are from Spain, it's normal to think that he is the best :ewan:

No, I don't think that he's the best but you can't deny what he has done ;)

What I said are objetive data. The nationality doesn't matter to see it.

What has he done? He's driving a car that is the best on slow circuits, he is agood driver, but nothing super rite now. He has the potential, but he's not good enough yet to be concidered 34th best of all times

The last season Renault didn't expect to win a race even in dreams...

That race was more than "just a race", because that race was won by a driver who made a new record because his low age and he was driving a car that had not won a race since 20 years ago.

Maybe that doesn't mean anything for you but only Alonso can say that he is the youngest driver that has won a race ever.

All I m saying is that it's not enough to be in 34th place. those rankings are worng anyway, and the whole F1 community is laughing with it

Some of the top 100 I disagree with:

11. Mika Häkkinen: Lets see, what did he do? Win 2 of the softest WDC's of all time and not much else. Sorry Iceman, but you're way overrated.

21. James Hunt: Another soft WDC. Prolly remembered more for being Murray Walker's foil on the BBC's F1 telecasts (when they had the rights).

29. Damon Hill: Only got that opportunity at Williams because of his father. Also was a waste of a seat in 1999 at Jordan.

74. Heinz-Harald Frentzen: I wouldn't have hired him to be my TEST driver.

95. Martin Brundle: Was he undeserving of a spot in the Top 100? "You're right there, Murray."

EDIT: Wouldn't it have been easier to do a "100 Worst F1 Drivers...Ever" Poll? F1 Rejects (http://www.f1rejects.com) just happens to have all the resources for such a thing, and maybe even a "Dishonourable Mention" as well!

I totally agree with you on everything, especially the Mika hakkinen part, i said the same thing in another thread that he is the most overated driver of all time and only won because the rest of the cars were so bad, but when Schumacher's car got to the level of McLaren's he lost and bottled and left F1 for good.
