What do you think for this match? Can England beat Japan easily?

No, Japan are no pushover, but I expect England to win, even if that clown makes 11 subs at HT. :S

i would think so, this is the test match, just like italy and germany did, this will be a good opportunity for sven to try out different midfield combinations so he can try and get lampard in there

Yep, Rio Ferdinand would've partnered Sol Campbell if he was not suspended though.
But this is alot stronger than the squad we had at the 2002 World Cup.

will leave my TV Card on-record and have a shower. (H)

The brazilian guy on the left for Japan is good though.

Yep they started with the formation i posted, diamond with Lampard the holding player, with Gerrard on the left, Been a good first half, but we just aint taking enough shots or closing down players well when in defence. I still expect a 3-0 scoreline.

But anyways he did it for United against Fulham 2 season's ago. Remember that 1-1 game, where Barthez saved a penalty and then Solksjaer scored the equaliser.

why does Sven like to change the entire team all at once? How will he see which player can work with the main players?

Is he trying to see which player will be able to individually make a difference and score?

His substitutions worries me.

Japan is a good team. They have great players, technically gifted and with huge potential. This is no surprise, at least to those who follow world (and Asian specifically in this case) football. They are surely a force to watch out in the following years.

About England... I think they're not very strong. At least not at the same level as a team like France. But they are good and I'm sure they'll play with full strenght and determination here in Portugal during the Euro. If things start going well for them, then they can go far and do well. If not...

Remember that to get to the Brazilians, we had to play an absolute blinder against the Argies. And an injury hit squad.

James has always been the weakest link to me. He didn't even react much to that ball.

I know England kind of held back but they really have to get their act together. Hopefully they'll do better against Iceland.

As for the France game, i think we'll be playing pretty defensively hoping for a draw.

yea i didn't expect england to blow away japan. it's been awhile, anyways, since the majority of england's players have had a run out.

but japan will surprise some. they were missing two of their best players, nakata and takahara. they're a very young team..but they're very talented technically and play with a lot of flair. nakamura is ice cold. very talented.

The Japanese and the Koreans are well-known with their never-say-die mentality as well.

They are very hardworking on the pitch and their fans are simply superb. The teamwork ethic is very strong in these Asian teams.

With more and more Asians playing abroad I'm sure these teams will get better.

We were awful after the first 35 minutes.

Diamond mid-field simply doesn't suit us, we need a flat mid-field 4. There was simply no closing down, we've got to play to our strenghs and Lampard as a holding mid-fielder isn't one of our strenghs. If Sven is going to play a diamond we need Butt or Hargreaves in the holding role and Lampard in the attacking mid-field role.
