View Full Version : did kluivert really have a touch on the third goal? shez 25-06-2000, 10:26:PM i thought the ball came off the defender...he shouldn't claim it!! Zambrotta 25-06-2000, 10:28:PM No, he even admitted it. This kid is great! Neo_9 25-06-2000, 11:09:PM But the question is if he will be credited for it!? Cuz if he do then he will have 6 and Milosevic 5 ...and cuz I have money on Milosevic I really hope he won't be credited! Black_Ned 26-06-2000, 04:14:AM Kluivert earns place in history - AAP Patrick Kluivert earned a special place in European soccer history with four goals in the Netherlands' 6-1 destruction of Yugoslavia in the Euro 2000 quarter-finals on Sunday. Although the forward admitted afterwards that he only scored three of the goals, European governing body UEFA credited the Barcelona striker as having become the first player to score four goals in a match at the European championship finals. Kluivert said he did not score the Dutch third in the 51st minute when he and Yugoslav Dejan Govedarica both went for a cross into the goalmouth from Paul Bosvelt at the near post. The ball was deflected into the net. "Yes, honestly. I have to say the defender touched it before me so really I only scored three goals tonight," the forward said. "Today, on their own pitch and in front of their own public, the Netherlands played very well and deserved their success,' said Yugoslav coach Vujadin Boskov. "They were extremely good and also lucky." This is a strange statement from the coach, Holland dished out a 6-1 hammering and they were "also Lucky"...try to work that one out. However they scored it on the field is how it should stay scored. By the way, nice move to get the cross off by Bosvelt-great stop and go move. Daniel 26-06-2000, 08:10:AM It's still remains Kluivert's goal, he's got 6 goals, Inzghi, Henry will never catch him now, not even Conceicao or Nuno Gomes, because Portugal will play only one more match in Euro 2000 and against France they'll lose and probably won't score. Kluivert is world-class, he reminds me of such greats as Pele, and Eusebio, and Gerd Muller, Kluivert is a goal machine, 29 goals in 44 caps and he will be only 24 on July 1. Neo_9 26-06-2000, 11:41:AM UEFA has now decided that his 3 goal was an own goal after looking at replays - So he "only" scored 3 and have 5 as Milosevic. |
