View Full Version : The best GOALKEEPER.
Hey you all, who do you think is the best keeper in the world at this moment.
I think that Oliver Kahn from Bayern Munchen is the best (there are many othe good plaers but i post this topic to know other opinions).
AJAX supporter 08-01-2000, 12:32:AM I'm starting to think Van Der Sar is, he had a terrible season with Ajax last season, but that was not really his fault.
But he has conceded only 6 or 7 goals this season in 15 games or so with Juve in the Serie A, the best league in the world.
Keeping so many clean sheets can only be a confidence bootster for the Dutch team and himself for when Euro 2000 comes around.
Bolso 08-01-2000, 03:03:AM Mazurkiewiez and MANGA.
xizor 08-01-2000, 10:34:AM Chilavert is the best there ever is and will be
Canoe 08-01-2000, 12:10:PM Van der Sar, plain and simple. Good positioning, great shotstopper, good in the air, near perfect in almost every aspect
PSV Supporter 08-01-2000, 01:22:PM Edwin vd Sar!
I don't have to say more.

yes he plays for Leeds, but that's not the only reason - he spends whole games without a touch then makes incredible saves even when cold

I hope he leaves wimbeldon because that defence just inst doing him any favours whatsoever.
Game Rod 09-01-2000, 05:07:AM I agree with Sella because I've seen the way Schmeichel deals with his colleagues in Sporting helping them out. So:
Past: Lev Yashin
Present: Schmeichel
Future: Leave it to you
I also like Vitor Baía, and loved to see Preud'homme play too.
Sella 09-01-2000, 06:18:AM What!? I don't Believe this. No Schmeichel?!
If you consider only pure goalkeeping abilities, I'd pick Schmeichel as 3rd or 4th in world, after Van der Sar, Kahn and Chilavert.
But the goalkeeper's position is more than that. Being a solo player, he has to have responsibility, captaining ability. Passive offensive abilites, like long throws or strong kicks are always helpful. And of course, being a "winner" is always a plus.
And besides all these, which Schmeichel excells in, his abilities are (imho) the best in the world. Nowadays goalkeeper moves are often referred to as "Schmeichel style"...
Besides, look at his style! He's the best! Schmeichel rocks!
Knight 09-01-2000, 06:57:AM Edwin van der Sar
StarStreetSonic (SSS) 09-01-2000, 03:59:PM Either:
Schmeichel - The great dane.
Kahn - germany's wall

Chilavert, penalty keeper

Stefan 09-01-2000, 08:50:PM José Luiz Chilavert
33 years old
plays for Velez Sarsfield in Argentina
he's a good showmaster but not the best
goalie

Sella 09-01-2000, 10:17:PM Why not Chilavert? Besides being incredibly talented in goalkeeping, he is an incredible kicktaker.
He recently even scored a hat trick.
Game Rod, I heard that Schmeichel was teaching the Lisbon fellows how to perform scissor-kicks and headers (being a former forward). Is this true?
nerdblaster 10-01-2000, 06:30:AM I dont know his name but he was the keeper of Paraquai at the WC98. I dont know for wich team he playes and if he is still good but he looked good at the World Cup
DirkDiggler 10-01-2000, 07:21:PM Past - Jim Leighton
Present - Jim Leighton
Future - Jim Leighton
Game Rod 10-01-2000, 11:04:PM Sorry Sella, I don't know. But being the kind of person he is, I think it could be true.
By the way, he played last night against Benfica and made some good saves, but nothing much. The score was 0-0 ( http://www.soccergaming.com/ubb/frown.gif).
He's still a bit hurt though, and didn't train today. They'll be giving him a temporary rest on the next Portugal Cup game.
Neo_9 11-01-2000, 06:42:AM This was easy...MAGNUS HEDMAN
He is just so great..too bad that the defense isn't the best in Coventry but he is the best in the world. He did only let in 1 goal for Sweden in the Qualifying for Euro2000..
And in the future Matias Asper will be the best- only 18 and is sitting on the bench when Juventus plays..not bad..
nordins högra skruvdobb 11-01-2000, 05:36:PM Im really happy to see that the PAOK fan has Mattias Asper on his list, Im a fan of AIK (solna) and I know that he is going to be really great. And to neo_9 Mattias Aper plays in AIK (solna) and not on the bench of Juventus but I think you are thinking of another young swedish goalkeeper who came from Trelleborgs FF to Juve and his name i daniel Andersson nut Im not sure
