Year of the underdogs? Gala won on penalties - ha, I can't believe that Arsenal had been practicing penalties - and why wasn't Henry called upon to take one earlier? Gala played better and deserved the win!
Since the under dog that nobody expected to get this far won the UEFA cup, what does this say for Valencia in next weeks Champions League final?
And even better, the only goal scored for Arsenal was scored by an Englishman - bodes well for Euro 2000 penalty comps.
Oh, and expect violence in Copenhagen. I hope I'm proved wrong thouh...

Yeah, they deserved it. Gala had the best opportunities. Besides that, after Hagi was sent off, I don't understand why Arsenal didn't risk it all. I mean, Gala was playing with 8.5 players against Arsenal's 11.
One man less, one with an injured arm and another an injured foot.

But Arsenal was too afraid to attack them with more power. Why the heck was Sucker on ONLY at 6 minutes of the end?

Gala played better, survived Arsenal's attacks under rough circunstances and deserved to win.

I just heard Wenger on the radio making excuses that they lost the pk shoot-out because the ref wouldn't let them pick which goal to use, and since they kicked at the end where Galatasaray fans sat, the Arsenal players were too nervous. I kid you not, he really said this...

oh PUHLEASE, that's got to be the most stupid excuse ever. what a sour loser, wenger is.

wenger's excuse may be true, but it's had nothing to do with the game going to Penalties and Arsenal unable to attack effectively.
never ever let a player who came on as a sub take a Penalty,he'll be more likely to miss cause he's not in the game from the beginning.
Adams should've been sent off cause he elbowed hagi at the beginning.
Henry is a great player but arsenal ask too much of him, bergkamp was s**t and godhelp Holland in Euro2000 if bergkamp is gonna play with this form!
cheers

I just came back from work and watched the game on tape - wow, what a game! My hat's off to Gala - Bulent and Taffarel are heroes. What a save by Taffarel on Henry in extra time - amazing!

I am an Arsenal Supporter but I congratulate Galatasaray on their efforts. With their star playe Hagi being sent off and then some of their players getting injured it was a truly amazing performance for them to win and they deserved it 50 times more than Arsenal. It's a pity it went to penalties though http://www.soccergaming.com/ubb/frown.gif because they are a shocking way of ending the game.

What a terrific performance by Galatasary, the wheel of fortune seemed to turn against them when Hagi got sent of, then the fatigue and injuries started to take there toll, and then there was Taffarel, what a superb save from the close header..<Anyone remember the Gordon Banks save from Pele>, onto the dreaded penalty shootout that they dismissed with brilliant ease..they are worthy winners of this Trophy...

F*ck the Turks, F*ck Galatasaray, kill all Turks, they stabbed an Arsenal player. Those dumb f*cks only know how to use their fists not their heads. Playing the shoot-out infront of the Turkish F*cks cost Arsenal the shoot-out

Bit of a hard line that, Daniel. I am the first to admit that SOME Galatasaray fans do spoil it, and the club, Turkish FA and UEFA have done nothing, but Galatasaray won fair and square, and while they had the advantage of taking the penalties in front of their fans, It wouldn't have made much difference.

Congratulations Galatasaray

Who said Daniel was English? If so, lets deport him so we're spared from having such fools in this country.

Congrats to Gala(and the fans), they were better on the day, and that Taffarel, brilliant, absolutely brilliant.
Christos - Please follow this advice: " Never get angry at stupid people "

We didn't deserve to win, we had so many chances, we played a team that was one man short for quite some time, and yet we couldn't get the job done.

Fellow Arsenal supporters ( or anybody else who would be interested ) , I think we need a new signing, QUICK!! Can anybody say - Penalty Kick/Save Coach ??

How the hell can you practice and coach penalties? The only thing a coach can do is just to tell all his players to be 100% confident that they will score - its mostly down to confidence and the ability to handle pressure. Most players in the world can put a penalty into the corner without practice under no pressure eg. in training, but put them in a European final and its all down to character.

Oh man, I go and defend my fellow Englishmen as non-racist, then some racist d*ckhead comes up witha statement like "f*ck and kill all Turks". Well done Daniel, thanks for spreading the message of truth and reconciliation around the forum...

Sorry Drinky, I assumed people would read it as humourous, as it was intended.
BUT, you can definitely practice penalties, same way you practice set pieces, only with less people involved. At my club we practice it as a finale to our normal practice once a week. Score and you go home, miss and it's a round trip before doing so. Why do we do this ? Almost just after I started playing for the club we played a match where we ended up with a penalty in the very late stages of the game, and the only two guys who could take it had been subbed due to injury.
And have u noticed, it's usually players who are lacking confidence( or technique perhaps ?) that keeps the ball on the ground when taking a penalty. And that's why I was so impressed with Gala.
