View Full Version : Scholes injured ---> fix England's midfield while you have the chance
northstar 15-06-2004, 01:08:PM --------------------------:boyaka:------------------------------
Chuckles-------Terry--------Can o' Soup -------------Bridge
Hollywood-------Lampard--------Gerrard----------Ashy Cole
------------------------Owen-----------Rooney
Solves the lack of a proper left winger also like this and should strengthen the midfield overall.
opinions?
Bobby 15-06-2004, 01:12:PM I'd play Bridge in front of Cole.
northstar 15-06-2004, 01:14:PM yeh either will work. It can be a Total Football left side...they can swap positions throughout the game without much difference in qualities.
mufc_daddy 15-06-2004, 01:42:PM I'd use Seb's team but would swap Joe Cole and Lomp-hard's positions.
Yeh i thought of swappin them too

;)
garlei 15-06-2004, 02:49:PM that hurts.
It was funny though to be honest.
ShearerM4 15-06-2004, 03:03:PM i'd have Bridge on that left wing ... he's one of the best crossers in the Premierleague.
But then again we don't strikers that are renowned for their heading ability.
i'd have it like this, with Owen and Gerrard with points to prove :

Hehehe:D
monkee 15-06-2004, 03:23:PM Peh! Drop Scholes, are you mad. :o I can understand him not playing if he's injured, but on Sunday whenever England looked dangerous in attack in the 1st half it was invariably Paul Scholes that made the pass that opened it all up.
Also there's no way I would drop Ledley King for John Terry now. I don't doubt Terry's qualities as a CB but King put in such a good display against France that he deserves the role ahead of Terry. Terry's struggled against far weaker opposition when playing for England.
ShearerM4 15-06-2004, 03:36:PM i was supposing Scholes would be injured
even if wasn't, one of Lampard or Scholes would have to give up his spot.
Scholes didn't look at ease on the left, that simply won't work. Bridge could do a great job down there.
It's a choice between Scholes or Lampard for offensive midfielder.

I thought Scholes did okay down the left considering it isn't his natural position. The only times I was concerned was when France attacked down the left but he and Cole teamed up well most of the time. But Scholes was inclined to drift infield, but it seemed okay on Sunday.
I wouldn't play Bridge or Cole at LMF either. Neither play the role for their club and while they may be good attacking LB's it's a different role. I think England would get caught out more with 2 players naturally inclined to do the same thing.
I'd stick with the same team, giving Owen a chance, but Owen's been England worst for about a year now (since Heskey was dropped for Rooney).
Amdy Faye 15-06-2004, 05:17:PM Hopefully he is fit and does play, he'd be great, you could tell he was really up for it V France after rescent England performances etc etc.
But I think Joey Cole would have a great game, he's very very annoyed and disheartened. He plays 15 mins for Chelsea and if he does start, he always comes off, no matter how well he does.
I think he'd be a bit like Cristiano Ronaldo for Portugal, his mentality would anyway the thought that 'im gonna do well no matter what' I don't think he'd disapoint. Scholes deserves to play though, it's unlucky this has hit him!
lplover2k2 15-06-2004, 05:28:PM Joe Cole should replace Scholes if he is not fit;he is fast;technically good and delivers good passes and he can also goals.
same like Scholes
Thelonious 15-06-2004, 06:02:PM Scholes is a class player but against france kept on getting dragged in to the middle, and played very deep where he is less effective. Lampard should definalely keep his place , 2 goals in his last 2 games compared to scholes 0 goals in 3 years.

I@n S 15-06-2004, 06:28:PM Most of you have forgotten how great Ledley King was! Except for you 'monkee' Damn that link Seb. It should be God Save the queen, Royal Britania, Land Of Hope And Glory or Three Lions Song with England winning pics. HESKEY :f***:
Shindig 15-06-2004, 07:35:PM Oh, aye! Ledley could slot into the midfield and give Terry the spot in defence. Peice of p!ss.
april__29 15-06-2004, 07:39:PM myself id go with ledley over terry just on the fact that he played so well and terry is recovering from injury, have terry on the bench n bring him on when were stuffing the swiss in the second half :D
