I've only been using gmail for a month, and have ~25MB of emails so far. I will definitely need more than 100MB after six months or so. Of course I could delete stuff, but if I've got that much space, why delete?

Juan
17-06-2004, 12:51:AM
why wouldnt you?

because you can archive things, and search for them later

do you work for yahoo or something

Juan
17-06-2004, 07:28:AM
lol no i dont, i just know that these people aint Idiots and they would not give u 1 GB of space for just any reason.

Personally i would not trust to keeping my info on some Server that could some how crash and possibly lose all my data.

100MB or 1 GB all im saying is that its no reason to pick one over the other.

my mail box never fills up above 4 MBs

If u ever try to upload a large file, unless u haev like 1 MB upload per second speed, the server will time out ;)

hmmm im going on and on i think ill stop now.

Hyun
17-06-2004, 07:35:AM
if you compress your files to be divided up to many files, connection time out wouldnt be that much of a problem. i'd probably use this when all my other efficient way of storing stuff is gone, for example if i cant make any backup cds.

do you guys really think this is a long term thing, i beleive its a marketing flick which would only last a couple of months...

think of it this way, if they have say 50,000 users and each has 100 mb storage... how much burden would it be on the servers...

i have a yahoo account but i wouldn't rely on keeping lot of my mails on it as it might happen that suddenly they tell me too empty my account coz' they are switching back to the old 6mb account...

 Juan why are you hellbent against the 100 MB / 1 GB account ?

Just because you don't need it doesn't mean the rest of us won't be using it either

I have a 10 MB hotmail account and its FULL. If I had a 100 MB account that would be full. If i had a 1 GB account that would be full as well

And yes i have an internet connection capable of high speed uploads.

And when a company makes a 1 GB account, their server won't time out as fast as Hotmail accounts.

im not Hell Bent against 100MB accounts, i simply said 100MB accounts are more practical than a 1GB account, these guys aint dumb as ive stated before, they would not just give you 1 GB of email space for nothing. the has to be a catch somewhere ;)

I agree with what dhruv said :)

i also would not be surprised if Google and Yahoo set a timeout limit on the servers anyway so u cant upload whole large files like that.
