1-0 to England.

This is kind of a wish, I really dunno if England can beat the Swiss, they didn't convince me at all vs France and I'm not talking about injury time either. The whole game they seemed quite unimpressive. I'm just hoping Roonaldo can pull out a winner for us. :clapwap:

Yeh if England dont get any result from this, then they might aswell pack their bags.

I think the result will be 2-0 Victory

I thought we we're Brill against the French. A few passes went astray and out of bounds. We just couldn't keep the ball much in the second half but we did play agaist a very good French team. When we got the ball we used it well. Just made a mess of it with the Pen and stupid subs.

The swiss are no pushovers, they have a good GK and a nice little attack.

my england side

James; G Neville - Campbell - King - Cole; Beckham - Gerrard - Lampard - Bridge; Vassell - Rooney

2-1 England, though it should be tight.

yeap that would be the fair team to put out...
But Terry seams guaranteed a place. Maybe Sven wants to see what he can do. Then for the last game v Croatia decide which one has done better i suppose him or King.

As for Vassell up front, he seems to do well when he comes on for England ... I don't think Owen will be dropped, he should be given a chance to redeam himself, but if he doesn't he'll lose his place.

anyway i'm only saying things we already know :p

EMILE Heskey has promised to prove his critics wrong and help England recover from their demoralising start to Euro 2004.

Heskey came under fire following England's defeat against France on Sunday, after his foul on Patrick Vieira allowed Zinedine Zidane to equalise with a stunning free-kick.

Manager Sven Goran Eriksson was also criticised for putting on Heskey in the first place, and taking off Wayne Rooney. But Heskey said: "I have always got a lot of criticism but I am confident and I don't let it get to me.

"There are times when my contribution can be overlooked and I would get praise if I scored more but played worse.

I reckon that we could get a win outta this.. so im gonna say:

England 2-1 Switzerland

But, and this being a very big but, we will be loosing 0-1 at Half Time.. I think that the swiss are a very good team (on their day [may i being so kind to add;) ]) but they don't have the same ammount of depth as England have... not saying that we have any:p

But when we gave away two goals, too the French, in injury time this is the only smiley that can describe my reaction: :f***:

England were the favourites to win this game a long time ago, but looking back on the first matches England played a very good opening match and the Swiss didn't impress against Croatia.

So I think it all comes down to psychological matters, England must be fired up but not panic if they don't score during the first half.

Scholes Ready For Swiss Battle (http://www.manutd.com/news/fullstory.sps?iNewsid=71705&itype=466&icategoryid=120)

Paul Scholes looks to have won his race to be fit for England's crucial Group B match against Switzerland on Thursday.

Scholes suffered a twisted ankle in the 2-1 defeat to France on Sunday, and Sven Goran Eriksson rated him as having only a 50/50 chance of making England's second game of the tournament after he missed training on Monday and Tuesday.

But the 29-year-old midfielder came through Wednesday's session unscathed and is now ready to take his place in the starting eleven against the Swiss on Thursday.

Speaking at a news conference in Coimbra, Sven-Goran Eriksson said of Scholes' progress: "He will be fit for the game. He did everything in training on Wednesday and will be okay for the match. It is very good news for us."

Gary Neville also picked up a knock in England's first match but is still set to start against Switzerland.

Eriksson admitted he has to pick his squad up after the disappointment of losing in such devastating fashion against the French.

"It's difficult to understand why we lost the game," he said. "I can remember only two other games that finished in such a way; Manchester United's game against Bayern Munich, and the Italy-France match in Euro 2000."

Report by Ben Hibbs and Gemma Thompson.

Bear in mind the Swiss only has 10 men.

Hargreaves has made a difference. He is moving quickly.

Good enough game from England, but playing like this wont make them win the tournament. Rooney played good but if he would have hit Stiel head with his tackle he could have died. He needs to chill down a little or he will be sent off soon. Owen was once again a dissapointment and I think Vassel should start against Croatia.
Let's just hope that the English media doesn't hypes this performance as they normally do when Enlgand win giving all the english fans the feeling that they are one of the best team in hte world.

The second goal was somewhat Rooney's but I guess they gave it to him because he took the shot even though it went in off the GK's back. England played pretty good but they were lucky to play against 10 men because Switzerland weren't that bad either until the sending off. It would be funny if Croatia beats France (H), not gonna happen though.

I'm not taking the win away from England, even though they didn't play that great, they still obviously deserved to win. But if you can sit here, and tell me beckham played well then you're blind. beckham by no means had his best game...............but he made 2 subtle influences to the game:

Beckham played an average decent game. 6/10 game.

His range of passing is good, and most of the time it is accurate and fast. Not a lot of people can pass a long ball that well. Against the Swiss, he provided nice cross field balls to the left, he set up Owen a few times with his through balls, he had decent set plays and linked up with Gary Neville. Yes he's not at his best, but he is an important player in the team.

He might have squandered a penalty chance, but the fact is, he made the assist for Lampard. Without his free-kick ability and his corners, England would be a lot weaker.

He may not be the best player out there, but he is a good crosser of the ball.

Help?

The defending in the first half had much to be desired...really think that with King's presence during the France match it would be better to start him.

The Swiss outshot England 11-10

and the possesion slightly favoring the Swiss 51%-49% The England players should be doing better all around against a team like the Swiss.

Having a good cross isn't enough to be considered a world player.
The only reason he is sucha high payed player is because he is a pop icon, especially in North America where people are clueless about football.

Beckham is abnormally over rated, he isn't a world class player, he can't even use his left foot.

The fact that Beckham is playing so far out on the wing is not his decision. I'm sure if he could he would get more involved in the game, but his position is on the wing now. This means he will not be able to have an effect on what goes on in some parts of the field, or dictate the pace of the game, or come back to pick up the ball each time his team are having trouble starting attacks.

Beckham is playing on the wing. And for a winger, the main thing is get the ball and send in a good cross for a forward. center mids have to tackle, defend and attack and shoot, while wingers do completely different job. And Beckham has the best crosses, as well as he defends well and you can always see him being involved in attack. What do you want him to do? Dribble past everybody on the side, when he can make one on one cross?

BTW i think you mean he is popular in Asia not North America.

thats a nice fact - i was really afraid of what was gonna happen w.o rooney!

on another thought, should we play 5 at the back (campbell sweeper, and king and terry as centre defenders) to ensure we get the result? actually, i think we should keep it as it is because our defense is probably the best defense so far (apart from the 2 minute lapse which wasnt even our defenses fault)

Is it: two yelows= suspension

or is it : two yellows in two consecutive matches=suspension?

I'd rather he be suspended now, imagine us without him during knockout?

and he's such a livewire, he's exactly the kind of player that might get a yellow. The refs have been pretty nice to our 18 year old.

Lets say that Rooney got booked playing against France and against Swiss, then he gouldnt play against Croatia...but he didnt get booked in match against France...he got booked against Swiss only, now if he gets yellow against Croatia and England would reach to the quarters Rooney would play cause after the group stage the cards will not count in knock out stage.
If Rooney would get booked in 1/4 finals and in semis he would miss the final.

Beckham's always been like that though? Why point it out just because he's at Madrid.

Of course, he has a lovely right foot and can do some fantastic out of this world passes. But he never ever takes a player on. Which is in a way annoying for a defender because he runs with the ball, stops 5 yards in front of them, pushes the ball and then wacks it. Lol.

I think i've hardly ever seen him take on a player, yeah he's ran past people before but taking on as in beating them by skill.

But he was like that at United and he's like that at Madrid but you don't notice it as much because he's in the center as opposed to England's right.

He's a good player though and always will be!
