As everybody knows, Portugal defeated Spain fair and square. Probably the best game we had in 1,5 years. Scolari finally hit the right note putting teenager Ronaldo on the pitch for Simão. Figo had his best game in a loooong time and gave us all hope for thursday's game.

I partied a bit on the streets after the game, the mood was really something else. You should have been there to see it. ;)

Ok, let's hope this one doesn't get deleted. I'll write more or less the same things I wrote in the other thread.

First of all, congrats to Portugal. You fought hard and got your deserved prize. I just hope you don't laugh at me next time I go there on tourism, because it's a country I really like ;)

As for Spain, defense + counter-attack looked like a good tactic for this match. In the first half there was no counter-attack, just defense as Portugal attacked over and over again. When Nuno Gomes scored, they began playing a fairly acceptable football, because Portugal was tired and wanted to defend the score. Spain did too little to qualify, I think. Again a big disappointment for us. This time with no excuses, as the referee was fair, and there were around 18000 Spaniards in the Stadium supporting the team. In my opinion, the key was the game against Greece, which we could have won.

I'll translate the page you include in your post for people who doesn't understand Spanish. It's a Poll in the online edition of an Spanish newspaper. The question is: ¿Which is the reason for Spain not qualifying?

Option 1: Sáez (coach) tactics
Option 2: Players' bad playing
Option 3: Rivals' superior quality
Option 4: Lack of competitive attitude
Option 5: Another reason

I disagree with the outcome of that poll. Looks like a lot of portuguese people is voting :p Now seriously, I think it has more to do with attitude than with quality. Great players doesn't make a great team without the adequate attitude, and we didn't have it yesterday, and actually in any of the 3 matches.

Congratulations again, and go for it. I think you'll need yesterday's starting line-up for reaching the final, with Nuno Gomes instead of Pauleta. I think thanks to him you didn't score in yesterday's first half ;)

Looks like Spain has the same issue with "vacas segradas" on thier NT as we do.. I'm glad Morientes didn't come in earlier, because Raul didn't seem like much of a threat. I'm surprised at Scolari I must say, I didn't think he would have to balls to bench Rui Costa and Couto..

I must have read about 20 articles today about our victory. A ferw of them mentioned how we didn't do our best until after we scored the goal. As if we weren't trying our hardest before that.

The truth is that up until the goal, Spain was basically just defending. Once they saw that they needed to score, they gave us more space and we started to look alot more dangerous.

What's my point you ask. Portugal played the entire game to perfection. Constant pressure, strong defending and intelligent substitutions. We were brilliant. I haven't seen a game like this since we beat Brasil.

Some of my favorite moments (besides the goal) were when Costinha got three perfect tackles in a row and when Ronaldo left Vicente dazed and confused.

Now I believe more than ever. FORCA PORTUGAL!!!!

I'm telling you guys, the Ribeira of Porto was just fantastic yesterday! Dans and sweds celebrating with us, Porto fans, Boavista fans even some Benfica ones, everone using Portugal scarfs or flags! Everyone chanted, and there was an amazing moment, when everyone in the Cubo (zone of the Ribeira, portuenses here know what it is), and I mean abou 600 people, started singing the national anthem! Beautiful! Just beautiful! The foreigners would wave they're flags of beers:P even not knowing the lyric... One moment I'll never forget!!

Loved it! A classic! One goal would be enough, we scored it, panic for the last 10 min... Ricardo Carvalho was MoM in my opinion, coz he guaranteed the entire team that it would not go through there :p hehe. Great match reading by Scolari! Truely! As soon as he figured Miguel and Valente weren't beeing as effective in defence as they should be, he took that responsabilty from them and put Couto to play with 3 CB's whcih gave us the final safety and even got us 2 counter attacks that nearly went in... 3-0 would be class, to make up for the last Portugal - Spain

FACT:

Ricardo + Andrade + Carvalho

Oficial match mintues played: 180+

Goals conceded: 0 (ZERO!):D

by the way, Raul Bravo is a decent person, he didn't deserve the humilliation Ronaldo and Miguel gave him in that first half:kader: kids...

Ricardo doesn't suck! He's the starter for PORTUGAL! And he has great skills, stretchness, he's great with both feet and he's fast coming on to the players! They talk so much about Baia's comeout to Giuly, well, what about yesterday's comeout to Raul by Ricardo? Was brilliant! it has nothing to do with him being a Sporting player or not, it's just that he was a good keeper 2 years ago and now he's trash.

He almost made 2 blunders yesterday because his positioning on corners is piss poor. He jumps and tries to catch the ball but the ball goes above his hand. It happened 2 times yesterday.

FU*K the guy who deleted the previous thread!!! I know we shouldnt talk about it but i must since i dont (and many others still dont) understand what is happening here?

First Hugo-45 gets banned, he's pain in the ass for sure, but this time i'm not so sure that he offended any one! To me he didnt! Some just tryed to get advantadge of old quarrels, and banned him! I've seen some yellows, some red cards, but 2 weeks for that? The entire European competition? And he was even rullin the predictor here at SG? :kader:

And now the whole thread gets deleted? I came here just to follow it, to see how posts developed, to see if my posts got any attention or comments and nothing exists?? Am i supposed to post all my thoughts again since i didnt have the time to share them? Coulnt u close the thread? Edit something?? Deleting? :kader:



Something should be done! Or if a decent explanation exists, reveal it!

Trust me, he'll bench even Figo if he feels like it. Here in Brazil, probably 80% of the country was urging him to call Romário and he didnt. Plus he literally kicked a fan in the ass because the guy was pissing him off. Gotta love Felipão.(H)

2nd Ricardo sux (our weakest point is our goalkeeper), every time there is a cross i tremble like a scared little boy.

unfortunately i was to excited and nervous to take pics of the action, anyway my camera doesn't have optical zoom so those pics wouldn't be great...

i'm not going to Portugal-England :( damn i should have reserved the tickets back in January, but it was getting way to expensive with the tickets for Portugal-Russia, Portugal-Spain and the final, if Portugal ever gets there...
