I strongly disagree with you mate. Portugal will be England's toughest match. They have the home fans cheering them on, they also have world class players such as Deco and Figo. They will 100% be a harder test than Croatia. I just hope we win this game and face Germany. This game is 50/50 IMO.

Yet again though we saw Ashley Cole's wayward runs that left us bare on the left side and that's where most of their successful crosses came from.

It frightens me what Ronaldo will do to him :eek:

I think Ashley Cole already knows Ronaldo and won´t have as much difficulties as Raul Bravo. The real challenge is Neville against Figo but Neville has alot of experience.

Spain got 4 or 5 shots on goal in 3 games. Swizerland and Croatia have played way better than Spain. Spain has been 45 good minutes of Vicente in the first game and 45 good minutes of Joaquín in the second game. They are not even between the top 25 teams.

I preview a great game!! Both teams started kinda badly, with a compromising loss, but now they regain confidence! I see us taking advantagde of home factor and pulling this one out!

1st statement

some people said that Portugal was lucky against spain

Facts

i´ve saw 2 balls in the post and one clearence from Ricardo carvalho and that´s it
Portugal had 1 outrageous heading miss from Costinha and a good header again from Costinha saved by Cassilas at the goal line, then i saw raul bravo sliding to avoid Maniche´s goal after he past Cassilas and finnaly i saw cassilas making a brilliant save against Nuno gomes in the last minute, i can´t see where we were lucky, we were clearly more close to score the 2nd then to allow the equalizer.

2st statement

some people are saying that Portugal played poorly against Spain

Portugal in the 1st half made a brilliant offensive performance, in the first 30 minutes spain barely could reach our defense, we were attacking from the left, then the right, the the left again...
we showed great passing, great driblling against a very good team, spain only played badly because we were all over them, i really wanted to see how England would managed to play against spain. In the 2nd half we did not played so good offensive football but after we scored we showed that we also can play counter attack football, we had amazing scoring chances playing counter attack. IMO the people who say that Portugal didn´t played a great match are on heavy drugs and should seek medical assistance!!

i'll say 50-50, though i think Portugal has a huge chance of winning because England's midfield isn't as strong as the Portuguese midfield, and it's in the midfield that you can win or lose games...but England has Rooney, wich is a very powerfull stricker, but i think Ricardo Carvalho can handle him well :p

i don't want to predict, but i think in the end there will be an one goal diference result, of course Portugal wins it :p

In the 2nd half we did not played so good offensive football but after we scored we showed that we also can play counter attack football, we had amazing scoring chances playing counter attack. IMO the people who say that Portugal didn´t played a great match are on heavy drugs and should seek medical assistance!!

Sven-Göran Eriksson has warned Portugal his players are in confident mood ahead of tomorrow's Euro 2004 quarter-final - and ready to roar into action.

Eriksson held a team meeting with his players at the England hotel this afternoon and he believes the atmosphere in the camp could not be better.

He has almost a clean bill of health going to the quarter-final in Lisbon, with only Nicky Butt unavailable for selection because of a knee injury. And the Three Lions believe they are good enough beat the hosts.

Eriksson said: "The belief amongs the players is very, very big. They are confident. They know it is difficult to beat us and the confidence is very high.

"It's good to be in the quarter-final and we deserve to be here. It will be an extremely good atmosphere against Portugal I'm sure. And we want to win."

England have had only two days to get ready for what is the biggest game since the Three Lions faced Brazil in the quarter-finals of the World Cup two years ago. But it seems all the aches and pains are disappearing just in time.

Eriksson said: "It's short preparation and wether it is enough I will tell you tomorrow evening.

"But the physio, doctor and masseur have been good and we have been making sure the players eat well and do a lot of stretching and have ice baths and things like that.

"I hope and am quite sure we have done everything possible.

"We know it won't be easy against Portugal because they are a good team and it is an advantage for them to play at home.

"But I think at 7.45pm tomorrow it will be like playing at home for us because of the English fans and the players are looking forward to it."

Eriksson has had time to assess England's progress in the tournament so far and after watching videos of the matches he is happy with the performances.

He said: "We played good football against France and Croatia, we played okay against Switzerland but we won it so I'm quite happy with what we have done so far.

"The only thing I hope we will do better is defending on set pieces because there were two wide free kicks and two goals against us in the Croatia game. We will try to do it better against Portugal because they have players with good delivery.

"But overall, I'm happy so far. We're in quarter-finals and with a bit of luck we could have had nine points in our group.

"I am happy with our squad as well of course and Rooney has been amazing.

"He is 18 but on the pitch he behaves like he is 28. He doesn't worry about anything and he is very calm.

"He plays like he has a lot of experience and so hopefully he will be even better in the future - but even if he stays at this level I'm happy!"

Eriksson is well aware of the growing hype surrounding Rooney's every move, and the comparisons being made between the England teenager and world legend Pele.

It was the England Head Coach's quotes in a post-match press conference that sparked the comparison, although he believes his comments were taken rather out of context.

He said: "I was asked if I remembered anyone so young making the same kind of impact in a finals since Pele in 1958, and I said no. If that was to make Wayne the same as Pele, I don't know. I think Wayne has to score some more goals to say that, but maybe you can say he is like Pele at that age.

"Anway, I don't think these things affect him and I haven' t spoken to him a lot about the hype around him because I don't see any signs that it is needed.

"He seems very happy on the pitch and very happy off the pitch, being together with the other players and laughing and not worrying about anything.

"After the tournament maybe life will be more difficult for him than where he is now. But he's lucky in that he has good agent, good friends and good managers. I'm sure that David Moyes is looking after him in an excellent way.

"But while we are here there are no problems. I'm sure Rooney will play well again against Portugal but to expect him to score a couple of goals every game is asking too much. I hope he will go on scoring but if he scores once or none you have to accept that as well.

"The important thing is that all the players are ready. If we play the football we can play then it is not easy to beat us. So why should we not, along with a couple of other teams, be one of the favourites?"

Not going to do any tactical prediction of the game, at least for now, just want to send out a big FORÇA PORTUGAL!!!

After our last 2 performances we all believe we can take England.

About our opponents, they're a good side but, as usual, extremely over-rated by the english media. But, to be honest, our media are also over-rating our team a lot.
Still, England has:

- lost against the worse France of the past 10 years;
- won 2 games against teams that posed weak opposition, especially on the defending end.

On the other hand, Portugal:

- had a miserable game against a well-organized Greece, and obviously lost fairly;
- beat a Russia that didn't exactly knew what they were doing. We played better, but still not suficient to beat a top side;
- pulled off a great win in a tight match against one of the teams that had played better in the tournament until that point.

What does this tells us? Nothing. Tomorrow's game is a box of surprises. I have no idea of what will happen, but I'm pretty confident we'll win! ;)

first off, the media arent the team. its not the teams fault the media are ba.stards (altho they truly are) and its not really the medias fault because they are making a shi.tload from all of this - they dont care.
second, they didnt compare rooney to pele straight up. they compared pele when he was 17 (scored 6 in the world cup) to the current 18 year-old rooney (scored 4 so far)

This should be a great match, with Ronaldo playing it will be sure to be an entertaining one at least.
I can't see England winning, especially if James is up to his usual tricks. Ronaldo and Figo will be the main men for Portugal switching down the wings, Neville and Cole will have a torrid time controlling the two.

I seriously think England will win this one. Portugal haven't got that much scoring ability, not that England has much, but at least they've got Wayne Rooney. Portugal's midfield haven't impressed me so far, while the England midfield is working well, and their defence is solid too. If England stay focused and don't walk into too many counter attacks, I think they will win quite easily.

I think the game is between Scholes and Deco....whoever gets more room will win the game for his team....
