Pretty weighty title to put on a game, im not sure so i'll go for a personall approach.

The best game ive ever seen from a personal pov was the 3-2 win Leeds had over Arsenal at the back end of 2002-03 season. Great game, great performance and great result.

Rochester Rhino

Rochester winning the US Open Cup in 1999. First and only non top flight team to win it. They beat 4 MLS teams to win it. and won the final 2-0 against Colorado.

I know you guys won't agree with me but it was still a huge game imo.

Brazil 3-2 Netherlands, WC 94, was such a thriller. Brazil was 2-0 up, Netherlands scored and then Branco took a great free-kick to put us in the semis. Brazil 1-1 Netherlands in WC 98 was the game i most screamed in my life... i almost cried from happiness after we won that game. Even more than WC 2002 (it was so easy...(H) ).

that Man Utd 4-3 Real Madrid in the Champion's League Quarter finals 2nd leg 2002/2003... I'll never forget that one!

1st leg: Real 3-1 Man Utd

Ronaldo puts Real up 2-0 scoring 2 goals

Just before half-time Ruud makes it 2-1

2nd half Ronaldo scores an awesome goal, making it 3-1

Helguera scores and own goal 3-2

Beckham comes in

Beckham bangs in a stompin' 30/35 yard free kick, 3-3, amazing moment

Beckham makes it 4-3 minutes before the end

The aggregate finishes Real 6-5 Man utd... What a thriller....

My favorite (though it certainly wasn't the best of all time) was Belgium vs. Brazil, first round of the 2002 World Cup. My friend and I stayed up until 6:30 AM that night because we watched the US beat Mexico and then this game. Even though we lost 2-0, we held off Brazil from scoring longer than any other team in the cup did, and we were such big underdogs and we almost pulled off an upset. The score lied, it was a really close game. If only the ref wouldn't have blown it and wouldn't have called back the Wilmonts goal right before the end of the half, maybe Belgium would've won and the whole outcome of the cup would've been very different.

World Cup Top Tens: Top Ten Games

FOXSports.com
10) Romania vs Argentina 3-2 in 1994
Dumitrescu and Hagi took advantage of an Argentina team still suffering from the loss of Maradona. This was definitely the most entertaining game of the 1994 World Cup.

9) England vs Cameroon 3-2 (after extra time) in 1990

The charming lions of Cameroon, with 38 year old supersub Roger Milla as their most important player, went very close to a semifinal place. Two penalties by Gary Lineker eventually stopped the Africans, who were most neutrals' favorite team.

8) Brazil vs Italy 4-1 in 1970

Pelé crowned himself king of soccer with his third World Cup title. This was attacking soccer displayed at its finest, especially in the second half, in Brazil's most impressive victory.

7) Belgium vs Soviet Union 4-3 (after extra time) in 1986

Superb entertainment in this seven-goal-thriller that swung back and forth, with Belgium lucky to score two "offside" goals.

6) England vs West Germany 4-2 (after extra time) in 1966

The famous Wembley final which went into extra time because of yet another late German equallizer. Geoff Hurst scored his famous hat-trick, including the controversial "was it over the line" goal.

5) Argentina vs England 2-2 (4-3 after penalties) in 1998

The best match of the 1998 World Cup. Lots of drama including David Beckham's red card for retaliation, and great goals by Michael Owen and Javier Zanetti.

4) France vs Brazil 1-1 (4-3 after penalties) in 1986

Platini, Zico, Giresse, Socrates, Tigana and Junior were all well into their thirties in this quarterfinal, but what a match they produced in what was their last chance of World Cup glory.

3) Italy vs Brazil 3-2 in 1982

Paolo Rossi woke up and scored a great hat-trick against the "unbeatable" Brazilian class of '82, in a match the South Americans only needed to draw to reach the semifinal.

2) Italy vs West Germany 4-3 (after extra time) in 1970

This semifinal turned out to be a classic. An injury time equallizer secured extra-time for the Germans, and five more goals were scored in the extra half hour that saw Italy go through to the final

1) West Germany vs France 3-3 (5-4 after penalties) in 1982

This roller coaster battle had everything. High drama, controversial referreing, quality goals and a nerve wrecking penalty shoot-out to top it off. France led 3-1 in extra-time and went close to scoring a fourth, but the Germans once again showed remarkable strength and levelled the score, before winning on penalties.

----------------

the best worldcup game for me was the semifinal game between italy-germany 1970 in mexico...both played in the heat of 45-50 celcius in mexico city...italy early lead after 7 minutes..germany has attacked and had many chances but scored only in the last seconds of the 91 minutes...beckenbauer was injured in this game and has played with a sling..in extra time 5 goals and italy won luckily 4:3..both team was exhausted and after the game both teams got applause of 100000 people....a small monument outside of the arena i think remember for everyone this great game...germany has beaten before in a other midday heatgame england 3:2 in extratime after germany was down up to minute 66 2:0. gerd müller has scored the game winner against england and has scored 2 goals against italy in the semifinal loss...

i was 12 years old in this days where i have watched on tv this both games..

the semifinal game between france-germany 1982 was one of the most dramatic games ever ,only overshadowed of schumachers brutal foul...the great frenchteam was leading 3:1 in extra time , 12 minutes to go and germany fought back like so many times in other games too to draw this game....klaus fischer had a great last goal...the penalties was dramatic and germany won this game....for platini it was the most dramatic game with up and downs in his whole career ...

I can't believe nobody mentioned the Germany - France game of 1982 until pitt. That has to be the best game ever. Four goals scored in extra time. I remember a guy missing (I think for France). He just collapsed on the field and his teammates had to carry him off.

it was a good game but not a fantastic game...i have buyd today and watched on tv today the dvd with the whole game between germany-holland. 1974......

germany was the better team in this final game..after 100 seconds cruijff was fouled on the line and got a penalty..germany was down and shocked for a while but the first 20 minutes a close game without big goalchances..team germany has played very well the next 25 minutes and had some very good goalchances ..a questionable foul against holland and breitner scored the penality goal...still today i cant say hölzenbein has diving clearly..the attack was against the player but possible is too that the defensive player hasnt touched hözenbein...the 2:1 in the first half was a a nice müller goal....the first 15 minutes in the second half ,team germany was a again the better team..beckenbauer was the best player and cruijff had maybe his worst game game in this tournament...the dutch players in this game wasnt not really technicial better and have played a long time relativ slow with many fouls...after 50 minutes team germany had 8:0 corners..holland had 4-5 goalchances between minutes 65-85 and was clerly the better team in this 20 minutes..much mistakes in the german defense and germany had wasted good conterattacks only to loose the ball stupidly.....

the dutchteam was the best team in the tournament and has played fantastic games but germany was the better team in the final game...

so many people count up allways the controversal penaltie germany got...but german player uli hoeness in the second half was clearly fouled in the penality box and got no penalty....
the biggest bull**** in this game was the linesman and the refeere have stolen away a regulare goal from gerd müller in the second half..i have watched the replay..gerd müller was 1 and a half meters away to be offside before the pass was played and him was taken away his second goal of this game..iam wondering why no german player had protestet...

it was well known that the dutch players in this tournament allways had hold up the arms to manipulate a little bit the referees decision to call offsides....this was happend in the brasil game too...

another bull**** offside call was against hoeness in the second half after a nice pass i think it was from beckenbauer .. ....

The best game was Vasco da Gama x Palmeiras for the 2000 Mercosul Cup.

Half time and Vasco losing for 3x0 with 2 players banned with red cards. Led by Juninho Paulista (ex-Atletico Madrid), Juninho Pernambucano (Lyon), Romario and Euller, Vasco scored 4 times - all goals were spectacular and beautifull - and the game ended Vasco 4 x 3 Pameiras (Vasco 9 players against 11 from Palmeiras).

I have never seen something like that, especially in high level competitons like the Mercosul Cup.

Couple people mentioned this and I agree.
Leverpool (5) Alaves(4) AET
UEFA Cup Final

You have to realize Alaves was in the Spanish 3rd Division just a few years earlier. They had no stars, a team from nowhere that may never even return to La Liga, but this was their golden game.

Liverpool was loaded with great talent. Everytime Liverpool jumped out to a lead (even by two goals) Alaves would come back. This was the Ultimate David and Galaiath club game.

Celtic 6 Rangers 2
2000-2001
This for me and I think a few other celtic fans would be the greatest game. The season before, Rangers had won the league by a margin of 21 points and to put it bluntly Celtic where absolute ****e. Things as they say change and they sure as hell did. If memory serves me, both teams went into the game unbeaten and Rangers were favourites to win, Celtic where 3 up inside 12 minutes and tearing Rangers apart with every move. It was both breathtaking and relieving at the same time. I had gotten used to watching Rangers defend and score 1 to beat us for most of the previous decade but this game changed all of that. The game followed much the same pattern through the second half and gave us (Celtic) the confidence to go on and win all 3 domestic trophies.
Hail Hail

I see a lot of people confuse their finest memory/ biggest succes with best match and that is certainly not the same.
The very first match I ever saw was Benfica-Real Madrid 5-3 European Cup final in Amsterdam, 1965 (yes, I am that old :D ).
That was a great match where Real was 3-1 ahead but lost in the end.
Another great match was Brazil-Italy 1970 with a superior brazilian site, Pele being the big star.

I would certainly do not name the France-Germany match in 1982.
In my opinion that match was heavily influenced by the worst foul in footbal history by Schumacher against Battiston. That was no foul anymore, that was a brutal onslaught. After that the French never came back in the match. I wonder how somebody can name this the best match. If the keeper of my country did that, I would have felt so ashamed that I never dared to remember it....
Also the Holland-Germany match of 1974 is certainly not the best. At best it is a good memory for Germans, but not good at all.
