View Full Version : Disappointed with Manchester United's effort
BelfastBoy 09-01-2000, 06:37:AM After the Vasco game, I'm a bit let down by the effort of Manchester United, I don't love or Hate them but I was expecting a bit more. You could almost tell they just didn't care, and that is not a proffesional attitude to take. I understand they didn't want to play in this thing but make the best of it while you are there. What do you guys think about the Manchester United "proffesional approach"?
ISSS4EVER 09-01-2000, 06:49:AM Yeah right, like they didnt want to win! Thats just what they want you to think.
fifafanatic 09-01-2000, 08:56:AM "let down by their effort?"
Man, they just realized that playing against clubs from the other side of the ocean isn't a walk in the park.
Instead of feeling sorry for them, you should congratulate Necaxa and Vasco for playing such great ball against ManU.
ManU should just go home and lick their wounds. That whole "champions of the world" image is all but ruined.
Italy82 09-01-2000, 08:07:PM You people are such cry babies .Who cares about this crappy tournament .Another thing ,what the hell is Real Madrid doing in that competition .I can name more than 6 teams who are better than them .
Cantona07 10-01-2000, 02:55:AM well said italia, i feel the tournament is not up to par first of not even the best teams are down there like the lazio's, inters
plus french sides, or even german, barce is another team that should be there, they should do future club cups by invitation only and we'll see the best clubs play,
plus i would like to see how the south american teams would have enjoyed playing the tournament in the euro winter, i think there would be alot of shockers!!!
ISSS4EVER 10-01-2000, 05:16:AM Real Madri isnt a good team? you must be triping they might not be in a good fase right now but they are the most successful team in Europe. They colected more titles then any other team.
And the clubs invited were clubs that WON TITLES, continent titles so thats why lazio&inter were left out, cause they didnt win sh*t. suck it up

ISSS4EVER 10-01-2000, 05:38:AM I bet there would be a lot of shockers, if the tourny was hosted in the euro winter probably that Aussie team would win the tournament because playing in the winter doesnt show any skill, its more about butting-heads then playing Football. And whos the best a buttingheads? rugby champs ofcourse.
And the damn grass in winter is so piss poor that after a few minutes the match turns into mud wrestling.
Its not our fault if in Brasil we have 365 days of Sun. So suck it up.
AC MILAN 10-01-2000, 08:05:AM Alright, for my friends Italy82 and Cantona07, I'll try to explain how all these teams ended up in what truly is a World Club tournament.
Real Madrid: World Champs in 1998, They won the Champions League (which happens to be played by the best teams of europe, so if your team didn't win it, well...that's not Real's problem, isn't it?).
The fact that they're not as good as last year, doesn't mean they didn't deserve a spot in the World Cup.
Melbourne: Champs in their continent, or you rather bring a team who got beaten in 1st. round of this same cup?, yeah, that's what I thought!, made my point.
Necaxa: Champs of the Concacaf, same as above, or maybe you want to bring a team who didn't even qualify for the concacaf championship.
Al-Nassr & Raja Casablanca: Champs in their continent. Now you tell me a well-known team from Africa and Asia that you know. Frankly I dont know any.
Vasco: rightful champ of Conmebol in 98, or you rather bring the team who ended up second??? (which was Barcelona from Ecuador, by the way).
Corithians: Host, got to be host by being champs in their country.
Man U.: Do I need to explain how this team got into the competition? Hopefully not.
Now I just want to make clear that all the teams who are participating here are FIRST CLASS teams in their continents, not because Juventus isn't there and Al Nassr or Casablanca is, doesn't mean the tournament sucks. Hope I have made my point clear.
Man U. simply didn't win cuz they didn't play the way they should've and probably underestimated everyone, so there you go, best of the world my butt, though, they deserve that title for beating us south americans in the intercontinental cup, but guess what, this is the World Cup, where teams WORLDWIDE play, so whoever wins, should rightfully be proclaime the best in the world.
Nuff said
AJAX supporter 10-01-2000, 08:14:AM I hope Real Madrid win the Championship, theyr'e probably the best team to progress to the Semi-Final since the disappointing Man Utd can't make it anymore.
I don't think this tournament has been such a success, it surprised me that most teams still sent out most of their best players, becuase the International version was terrible, you know the Confederations Cup, most teams hardly contained their best players. I like the idea of this Championship, but I sort of feel that the World Club Cup is enough to decide who's the best club team in the world. I don't think if surprisingly South Melbourne won or Al Nashr everyone would regard them as the World's best club team.
jsbach 10-01-2000, 08:34:AM Actually, the current Asian Champion is Jubilo Iwata.
And a solid argument can be made that Palmieras should be in there.
VDG was chosen primarily for the commercial success of the tournament.
They wanted to sell some tickets.
In my opinion, the selection of teams could have been better.
I also find the player qualification rules to be a bit questionable. (ie... Romario)
Ajax - So 1 games is better then a fast tourment to decide the best club?
If South Melborne or Al-Nassar won, they should be called world championship, because itīs not their foul that European and South American club didnīt send their best players (what they did).
I think too much people believe more at the midia then at the field. A club should be good at the field not at midia.
And why so many European guys donīt want a game against the best team in the world, I donīt get... They want to call their team the best team in the world, but when they came to play against team outside Europe they say the tournament is crap...
Golden Child 10-01-2000, 03:37:PM Who cares if Real Madrid team has won the most titles out of all clubs....how many of the players on Real Madrid were off the good teams of Real Madrid, absolutely none. FIFA made this tournament up way to quickly and their are flaws everywhere. They should just scrap this tournament until FIFA can learn a little something about club teams and not just national teams.
Fulcrum 10-01-2000, 05:04:PM FIFA definitely have created one stupid tournament. I'm not just saying that because I'm a Man Utd fan because I'm not, I love it when they get beaten. But even our school soccer training is organized better than this. Ok so the hosts are Brazil and Corinthians are Brazilian champions. That I can see. And the other champs from around the world I can see why they are there as well. EXCEPT why are Vasco and Real there since they are last seasons champs. It should be this seasons champs - Palmeiras and some other club, maybe they could take all the runner-ups in the continental tournaments and have a wildcard draw e.g. Bayern Munich might be one. And the fixture congestion for this tournament is terrible. FIFA insist on expanding European and world competitions at the expense of domestic competition which is slowly dying out. If you want my opinion FIFA are a bunch of greedy ar$eholes who don't care one bit about football.
ISSS4EVER 10-01-2000, 05:10:PM Dont be such a cry baby Child, Real Madri is the ****ing Champion of Champs League they beated the crap of the best from Europe to win.
"Who cares if Real Madrid team has won the most titles out of all clubs"
What a dumb comment, to be a great team is to win Titles thats why they were chosen. Its not FIFAs fault if your crappy team cant win sh*t. Suck it up
Sella 10-01-2000, 07:23:PM "Hey, Manchester United lost? This is a crappy tournament!"
"What, Real Madrid ain't creaming some Brazilian nobody? This championship is worthles!!"
"Huh? Manchester isn't the undisputed championship of the galaxy? Ahhh, nobody cares about this competition."
"Some crappy teams that (god forbid) aren't from Europe or South America? What kind of worthless shhit is this?!"
"Oh well....we don't care anyway and we let them win..."
Stop making all these feeble excuses, Manchester fans. We lost. It's possible.
Life goes on. http://www.soccergaming.com/ubb/smile.gif
fifafanatic 10-01-2000, 07:41:PM On any given night any club can beat anyone. Just because a club you believe should've been there wasn't there doesn't make this tourny worthless.
Yeah maybe there is room for improvement for this tournament, but guys, this is the first one! You should expect some errors.
You know for a fact that some of those errors will be fixed for the next one.
And because Fifa is running this Club Cup, you know a lot of countries won't decline sending a club to this tournament. Give it time, the bugs will be fixed.
BelfastBoy 10-01-2000, 09:27:PM Sella, what are you talking about? I don't think anyone here made excuses that this tournament is crap because Manchester United lost or anything to do with them. We all support different teams and no one really likes it, wrong teams are there? Maybe, Played in Brasil so their teams have an advantage? Maybe but Manchester United has nothing to dow ith it. When I started this topic, I was pointing out that I spent 90 minutes of my time to watch and Manchester United didn't put out the effort they normally do so I felt let down because I just spent 90 watching when I could have watched something else.
It was a lot of fun! How many times could you see a club from Asia against Europe?
Diferent styles!
It have problems, but it was the first tournment, or WC 30 was superb?!
And it is the best place to see the best teams around the world, fighting, playing.
Or do you prefer to see the best team on the world by the midia? Because it was the midia that make Manchester the best team (I am not saying that he is not), how could you tell?!
I think after this tournment some young guys here, learn that they could not believe everything they read at papers. A team need to win at the field, not for a spot on tv.
