View Full Version : Help with graphic card
i currently have around 250 dollars do spend, and im planning on buying a graphic card. searching by myself, i thought ATI 9800 Pro is what i should get. but with all the new graphic cards coming out, im worried that the price of the graphic cards will decrease, therefore ripping me off.
so my questions are:
1. should i get the graphic card now, or hang on a little bit more?
2. is ATI 9800 Pro the right choice for my price range of 250 dollars?
help would be greatly appreciated.

Buy that. 199$. You can't go wrong.
GET IT! It's TYAN, they rock! I've got the 9600 pro version
majorly overclockable. (H)
man, the ati 9800 pros i searched were like 250. and i searched them in newegg. :crazyboy:
thanks. i now have 50 dollars to spare. :D
which brings another question:
can you recommend me a good dvd writer? i've also been meaning to get this, but the prices ive seen were outrageous. i would prefer an exterior one, but interior is fine too if there isnt any exterior that would fit a reasonable price. (up to 150)
yet again, help would be greatly appreciated.
edit: any differences with the 256mb one? i mean like i said before, i got 50 bucks to spare on a graphic card. also, should i overclock this one if i get it?
the tyan is very overclockable (H)

i've got this DVD writer and its fantastic, its 8x, but i'm sure you can get 12/14x now
IceBlu 30-06-2004, 11:29:PM Hardly any difference between the128 and 256 mb cards. Not worth the price difference.
If you buy the Tyan, don't overclock it right away. Wait for a few days, make sure everything rruns fine... then start overclocking it little by little.
Use the ATI tool to find out how much the card can be overclocked. Then overclock it using a program like Riva Tuner or the Rage 3D tool.
As for a DVD writer -
The NEC 2500A 8X DVD +RW/-RW Drive

69$
One of the best dvd writers available.
lol, same one as i recommended.
i found a 12x for 159.99... http://www.newegg.com/app/viewproductdesc.asp?description=27-131-326&DEPA=1
thank you all.. this will really help me with the big buying decisions ive been planning.
yet again, thanks.
