Well, another cup upset! Tranmere beat Sunderland by playing some amazing football. BUT in 2nd Half injury time Tranmere had a player sent off. As he left the field there was confusion, and a sub came on for the snet off player. Sunderland had a free kick, and the player who put the ball out was the player who had come on for the sent off man. He left the field after this.
What had happened was the fourth offical had displayed the wrong numbers on the board. Therefore the player who SHOULD have come off didn't know about it! Sunderland will argue that the free kick was defended by the 11th player who shouldn't off been on the field, so there should be a replay.
I think that Tranmere beat Sunderland fairly, and that they shouldn't be punished for an Officals mistake. What does everyone else think?

PS And what about the Wolves goal vs Sheffield Wednesday! Unbelievable that that was given!

Yesterday's officials were a joke

That sending off/sub wasn't Tranmere's fault, the ref and 4th official messed up, and Tranmere may be forced to replay becuz of it
Wolves wasn't a goal
Shoulda been loads of penalties.
Truly awful officials all round

Yep, an absolute joke, the crowd was right in chanting ' you don't know what you're doing '.
Tranmere deserved it, and because it was an official that made the mistake there should be no replay, but I think there will be, just hope that Tranmere can do it again

Since Arsenal replayed Sheffield wednesday every team looks for something wrong that means they can replay the game. Look just like with Aston Villa West Ham once the final whistle blows the game is over...OVER.

Win some lose some get over it.

I am Chris Davies, the main creator of PotD and the world's BIGGEST Tranmere Rovers fan - I saw everything yesterday and my heart was shattered when I realised this could go to a replay. I mean, the b******d fourth official presumed that the man being sent off, Clint Hill, was the man being substituted (for Stephen Frail), and not Andy Parkinson (unaware, like everyone there apart from everyone on the bench, he was being substituted), and even decided to hold up Clint Hill's number EVEN THOUGH JOHN ALDRIDGE AND THE REST OF THE TRANMERE BENCH SAID NO.18 - FRAIL, FOR N0.14 - PARKINSON, so the fourth official was not paying attention to the game at all and it is nobody else's fault but his! If we have to have a replay it will be GROSSLY unfair to us, Tranmere Rovers, because we did everything right (then and throughout the whole match) - EVEN SUNDERLAND MANAGER PETER REID SAID SO (although I must admit when the referee blew his whistle to carry on with the game he went absolutely through the roof and beyond, I heard him scream "WHAT?!?!" from the top of the stand!) - and I don't know if we could do it again! Sure, luck came into it in places (Phillips' header headed by Hill on to the post, and then away for a corner, we were very lucky there), but that is sport for you! If the wind is blowing from the North-West on a golf course and you get a hole-in-one, that is pure luck - If the wind was blowing North-East, or not blowing at all, it would not have gone in! The whole game was fair and good apart from a STUPID mistake for 15 seconds of the end of the game which was not our fault, but the fourth official's fault - John Aldridge, the Tranmere manager, told him who to substitute and he saw Hill coming off and thought "he's the player being substituted" - What bloody planet was he on? Anyway, that's my view on it, and I will be back on Monday if this meeting about it comes up with a result - REPLAY (a gross injustice) or NO REPLAY (the best result for all, as even Sunderland boss Peter Reid admitted his side lost, and in his EXACT words, "FAIR AND SQUARE").

Sunderland football club would walk away with a massive amount of dignity and respect from the world of football if they declined the opportunity of a replay.

Yes, but I doubt Sunderland would do that. Another thing, the fourth offical seemed to only half heartedly hold up the board for about 3 seconds. The player meant to come off (even if the numbers had been correct) could not possibly have seen the board! How did the fourth offical every get into that position in a cup tie? (I mean if you can't get two numbers right, what hope do you have?)
