View Full Version : Old Firm should join Premiership!
Schumacher 09-01-2000, 12:53:PM Rangers and Celtic should join the Premiership. Why? Because the Scottish League has become a joke. It is basically two leagues : Rangers and Celtic and then all the other teams. The move would help these teams too! There would be more money and challenge and prestige in England than there is in Scotland. Anyone else agree (Or disagree, as will certainly be the case!)
dbubbs : LUFC Mad 09-01-2000, 12:59:PM please yes. so i cn shut an idiot i know up about rangers. If Rangers + Celtic came to England they wouldn't stand a chance. Look at their team - Wallace, Leeds cast-off. Kanchelskis, Everton cast-off. Hendry, Blackburn cast-off. There's not a single player in that team Leeds, Man Utd or Arsenal would want. Albertz probably coming closest, but not good enough for Kewell, Giggs or Overmars
I would guess Rangers finish 7-9th, Celtic 15th
4-4-2 09-01-2000, 01:05:PM "Rangers finish 7-9th, Celtic 15th"
Thats a joke, yes?
I wouldn't like to see them join the english prem but if they did maybe Rangers would be able to break Man Utd's strangle hold on the title.
Oh, did Rangers not play Leeds in the Euro about seven-eight seasons ago?
dbubbs : LUFC Mad 09-01-2000, 01:09:PM "I wouldn't like to see them join the english prem but if they did maybe Rangers would be able to break Man Utd's strangle hold on the title."
sorry THAT's the joke. Rangers can't even beat Celtic without problems (5-1 at home, recently a draw) whereas LEEDS strolled their game against Celtic with a less than full strength side. And that was last season, we weren't top of the league then.
"Oh, did Rangers not play Leeds in the Euro about seven-eight seasons ago?"
and...?
i'll answer that quite simply
"about seven-eight seasons ago"

Schumacher 09-01-2000, 01:12:PM Rangers would be in top five, Celtic in top twelve. It would be of huge beneift to them!
4-4-2 09-01-2000, 01:22:PM I'm sorry but Leeds victory against Celtic was such a non-event I don't even remember it.
When was it, pre-season Friendly ? as Celtic were getting used to the new manager ? i'm not a Rangers or Celtic fan but neither of them would let Southgate score TWO goals, thats just embarrising.
I admit that when Leeds got humilated by Rangers it was a long time ago but it was more recently than Leeds winning a title, and how many different teams have won the title since then except Man Utd, two.
I'd have to agree with Schumacher's preditictions but thats just at first, after a couple seasons with the increased revenue they'd be making and the change of game (the english game being much slower) they'd start to rise up the table and one of them (probably Rangers) would win it in their first eight seasons.
dbubbs : LUFC Mad 09-01-2000, 03:34:PM "but neither of them would let Southgate score TWO goals, thats just embarrising."
Leeds without their midfield and captain were outplayed by Villa. Wowee, they're top of the premiership, which is better than Rangers could do.
There is no way at all Rangers would win the Premiership, or even make higher than 5th.
Just name TWO players from their team that would make Leeds, Man Utd or Arsenal
And Leeds vs Celtic was a pre-season friendly, and we completely outplayed them
come on, 5-1 Celtic vs Rangers just proves Rangers ain't good enough
Fat Bhoy Tim 09-01-2000, 11:54:PM Fact:
Pre season's prove nothing....Celtic had 3 new players all of whom hadn't settled in.
Leeds 2 - 1 Celtic
one own goal and one sloppy goal to Celtics brilliant goal from a former 2nd div. player
fact:
3 years ago ... Celtic 2 - 1 Arsenal
Arsenal with much the same team now and Celtic with a much better team
Fact:Rangers 2 - 1 Parma
A great Italian team and UEFA cup holders fall to the afore mentioned "crap" team
5-1 at home and a draw ????
pardon
4-2 to Rangers this year and 5-1 to us last
And finally about Leeds versus Rangers
8 years ago Leeds were close to their best ever except for 1970...remember that Semi in the EC ...tough we won..and 7 or 8 years ago Rangers were pish
i'd say Leeds would lose to Celtic who is fired up right now and are gelling as a team unlike the beginging of the season.Or Rangers at their peak...right now Leeds stink...and are only top because of 21 games not 19 and because of some flukey results....not a good team ?....yes they are....but not as good as you beleive
Fat Bhoy Tim 09-01-2000, 11:58:PM And i forgot
to quote "There's not a single player in that team Leeds, Man Utd or Arsenal would want"
how come Leeds (and also Tottenham,AS Roma and Lazio) want to buy Mark Viduka for 10 million pounds...
shut up,your just a arrogant little kid who writes big kid stuff when your mum isn't looking....face it Leeds are less than the hype says they are...good but not that good
DirkDiggler 10-01-2000, 12:09:AM dbubbs - Prior to Barry Ferguson signing his new contract for Rangers he had been receiving much interest from Alex Ferguson.
The entire Rangers midfield (Albertz, van Bronckhorst, Ferguson, and Kanchelskis) could easily outplay the midfield from Leeds or Arsenal and Man U would have a better midfield if they kept the first three and played them with Beckham.
Billy Dodds and Neil McCann are world class strikers who could play with any Premiership club.
If Rangers and Celtic joined the English premiership: Rangers top 3, Celtic top 10
GOONERBHOY 10-01-2000, 01:21:AM Hey englishmen, trust me you don`t want these teams in the prem, they are about at their peak at the moment, they are very strong football clubs and would easilly both finish in the top 5 places of the prem.
How about making a brittish cup like the domestic fa cups.
Celtic fc #1
Englishmen, climb out of your arseholes. The Old Firm is bigger than most Premier League clubs and would easily hold there own in your League.
Thing is why would they want to? They are Scottish clubs and will remain so. Why would we want to be like the few Welsh clubs in the English setup? No National Identity!
PolishPower 10-01-2000, 05:20:AM Yes I agree they should join the English league. But why are you arguing where they would finish? Its just too unpredictable, look at strong teams few years ago how they struggle today, like Newcastle...
OmegaNZL 10-01-2000, 06:45:AM Well, Goonerbhoy and Mark, while u may be Celtic supporters, i think we finally agree on something. The Old Firm is bigger than football itself. And do u know the best thing about Scottish football, we can put teams on the field that have Scottish players. England is starting to struggle to put their own players on the field.
And dbubbs, Kanchelskis played for Man U at one stage so obviously he's good enough and who would u rather have in goal?
Taibi, who just can't keep his legs closed or Klos??
GOONERBHOY 10-01-2000, 01:08:PM OmegaNZL,
We both are also struggling putting scots on the feild, starting lineup anyway.
Celtic:
McNamara
Lambert
Gould
soon Boyd
Rangers:
Dodds
Ferguson
Sometimes McCann
Cantona07 10-01-2000, 03:01:PM rangers and celtic in the premier what a joke these team get destroyed ever time they venture out of the country, in the premier i doubt they would finish in the top ten. Scottish league is a joke, always rangers rangers rangers, and once celtic!!!!
rangers would take the title from manu?
are you mad manu could beat rangers with a reserve team, look at rangers stars albertz, has he ever played intl football?
plus look at the players that have dominated scotland and then come to the premier, while dicanio is a very skilled player, in england hes an avg star, but in scotland no one could touch him.
bring em on it would be nice to see both of them getting relegated!!!
OmegaNZL 10-01-2000, 10:58:PM Goonerbhoy: You forgot to add Wilson to that list but he's trying to get out anyway i suppose.
How come Boyd's not playing yet?
Bolso 11-01-2000, 01:30:AM Cantona07, didn't you say something similar just before th WCC, and look what happend.
Fat Bhoy Tim 11-01-2000, 09:35:AM Obviously the mad frenchman
opps....Cantona didn't read any of the other posts.
Cantona the old firm have a very good record at beating top English Prem teams in friendlies.
Rangers and Parma also proves class.
Face it,your all acting so tough because you know we'll give you a good whiping,or at least the biggest f**king scare you've ever had.
Fat Bhoy Tim 11-01-2000, 09:37:AM Most of the players who play for Celtic and some for Rangers play for their countries.
And the reason DiCanio is considered average is ....you dumb ****
He's in his 30's now...what do you expect.
GOONERBHOY 11-01-2000, 10:48:AM Who said Di Canio is average?
He`s still one of the elite in the prem
Omega,
Boyd is injured but he`ll be back very shortly.
dbubbs : LUFC Mad 11-01-2000, 09:13:PM hmmm been a bit hot in here since i've been away
"how come Leeds (and also Tottenham,AS Roma and Lazio) want to buy Mark Viduka for 10 million pounds..."
those were rumours, Leeds didn't actually go into the deep end. Yes maybe there are one or two players who'd interest us, but nobody we couldn't do without
"The entire Rangers midfield (Albertz, van Bronckhorst, Ferguson, and Kanchelskis) could easily outplay the midfield from Leeds or Arsenal and Man U would have a better midfield if they kept the first three and played them with Beckham."
Compared to the likes of Keane, Kewell, Beckham, Petit, Viera, Bowyer, Scholes, Overmars. Err no. Just look at Kanchelskis - he couldn't make the Man Utd team years ago. Once great yes, not now.
"who would u rather have in goal?
Taibi, who just can't keep his legs closed or Klos??"
Taibi is Man Utd's 3rd choice goalkeeper. If that's the best you can come up with it doesn't say much. I would feel a whole lot safer with Martyn or Seaman in goal.
"4-2 to Rangers this year and 5-1 to us last"
I know about 4-2, 5-1 was to Celtic... if there were two 5-1s it doesn't say much for consistency
: Rangers lost or drew (can't remember) to Valencia
: Man Utd didn't
Also, the UEFA cup: who's in it now? Spartak recently beat Rangers' opposition - Rangers lost, we walked it.
"And do u know the best thing about Scottish football, we can put teams on the field that have Scottish players. England is starting to struggle to put their own players on the field."
Martyn, Woodgate, Duberry, Mills, Harte, Bowyer, Batty, McPhail, Kewell, Smith, Bridges
8 English, 2 Irish, 1 Aussie. That's a team good enough to beat any Scot team, and just one of those is not UK, all English speaking.
"Billy Dodds and Neil McCann are world class strikers who could play with any Premiership club."
World class strikers who can't do it for their country eh? Neither of those would stand a chance against Bergkamp, Yorke, Bridges, Owen and many others.
"shut up,your just a arrogant little kid who writes big kid stuff when your mum isn't looking....face it Leeds are less than the hype says they are...good but not that good"
Hmm kid yes, but I know my football. 1) Leeds are top of the Premiership, and playing the best football anywhere in the British Isles currently. 2) The Old Firm generally get the Prem's cast offs (Wallace, Stubbs, Kanchelskis etc). 3) Euro 2000
zzz that took a while, man do i go on http://www.soccergaming.com/ubb/smile.gif
dbubbs : LUFC Mad 11-01-2000, 09:20:PM One other thing, please keep this to football and not a country war, or just a slagging match (ie i quote "shut up,your just a arrogant little kid who writes big kid stuff when your mum isn't looking"). These are my views on football, does that make me an arrogant little kid?
Polish Power has made one of the most sensible statments in this topic. Although I stil say it should never happen what is all that bull about where they'd finish.
Read on..
"Its just too unpredictable, look at strong teams few years ago how they struggle today, like Newcastle..."
Get over it..
GOONERBHOY 12-01-2000, 12:17:PM LUFC mad,
the reason that so many clubs that wanted Viduka have cancelled their bid is because Celtic Manager John Barnes finally came to his senses and named the striking sensation priceless and not for sale.
Russian Rocket 13-01-2000, 07:20:AM 2dbubbs : LUFC Mad
What do you mean "Kanchelskis-Everton cast off"
do you mean that Everton didn't need him a lot? They sold him to Fiorentina for 5-8 million dollars. And his transfer to Everton didn't mean that he couldn't make the Utd. team. He was playing a bit the same in Everton as he played in Manchester. Scored a lot too.
And, at the age of 30 he was transfered to Glazgaw for a record sum in Scottish Premier League History. Of course, Berkovich's transfer covered that record last year, but anyways, that's a bit off the topic.
What I say is that Andrei kept playing the same as he played in Manu, in Everton and Fiorentina. He is 31 now, and he is a bit slower now, but, anyways, he is still, a world class player.
Kewell the Jewell 13-01-2000, 07:54:AM Kanchelskis world class????
please.............
Leeds could beat Rangers or Celtic and you say that Rangers could take the title off Man U well then where is Rangers results in Europe?????
dbubbs : LUFC Mad 13-01-2000, 08:52:PM Another good point...
Man Utd are in the Champions League.
Leeds are in the UEFA Cup
Rangers are out AGAIN
Leeds beat Spartak, who beat Rangers' opponents who beat Rangers.
I repeat RANGERS ARE OUT OF CHAMPIONS' LEAGUE AND UEFA CUP.
World class team eh...?
Neutral 13-01-2000, 09:05:PM Forget Celtic or Rangers, PARTICK THISTLE should be allowed into the EPL (Alan 'i'm not biased towards liverpool' Hansen used to play for them u know).
;-)
That's it, my last post on this forum - l8r boys it was fun.
- Leeds for the Double.
- Argentina for the next world cup (Ortega, Veron, Batigol, Claudio Lopez - I'm crapping my pants thinking of it).
- Holland for Euro 2000.
- Kewell, Joe Cole and Gerrard for stardom, Beckham to 'somewhere sunny'
- Cantona07 back to redo kindergarten (5th time lucky hopefully), hope he finds a Leeds jersey that fits
- Juninhio to the KKK or some Neo-Nazi elitist group
And EA Sports to Hell.....
ISS Rules
Take care, and don't wear your wife's underwear....or at least don't let her tell anyone you do....
Schumacher 13-01-2000, 11:21:PM Rangers played better than Bayern Munich yet lost to put them out of the chamions league. Bayern deserved to go out, so don't claim that Rangers aren't top european level (no, I don't support them - I support Dundee United, and Fulham)
