PolishPower 18-12-1999, 05:42:AM I think its pretty much impossible to have more than one favorite team. What happens when those two teams meet? who do you support then? the answer is your favorite team...
I mean how can you name four teams as your favorite while all these teams hate each other?

as to PP : some people like a few clubs, some more than others, and would root for their favorite in case they met. In any case, most people like clubs from different leagues.
PolishPower 20-12-1999, 06:19:AM Yes I know its just semantics, I also like many different teams in many different leagues, but I think when you say "favorite" it should be the team you like the best.
Also I don't really think its cool when a persons favorites just happen to be the best teams in those leagues. In USA its called being a "front-runner", and I have little respect for those kind of supporters. You know what I mean, people who supported Bulls just cause Jordan played for them or people who support Man U. just because they won a lot of championships recently.
Goodsport 20-12-1999, 07:08:AM My San Jose Earthquakes missed the playoffs three years in a row, but they are still my team!
That should prove that I'm not a "front-runner". http://www.soccergaming.com/ubb/wink.gif

GROBAR_OTAGO 20-12-1999, 09:51:AM My one true favurite is PArtizan Belgrade
but when it comes to Euro competitions I love
the whole of Yugoslavian A league + Juve and Spartak Moskva
FIFAfreak 20-12-1999, 09:56:AM Favorite Teams. That's always a tough question. I know most diehards find the idea of liking more than one team (especially in the same division) rediculous. Most people root for the club their parents root for or the town where they are from or the first club they ever saw... As an American fan I find it hard to have one team only, I guess because I'm not from any of these places so there's not that emotional tie. I like watching the game almost regardless of who's playing. So being an outsider I admire quite a few teams...
I agree with you Polish about the "Front Runner" comment. A lot of people switch allegiances every year - fair weather fans.
My favorites include:
U.S.: D.C. United
For a good reason! I was born in the Baltimore/D.C. area and lived there several years. It was good to see Chicago win that one year, it was a great game.
Indoor Soccer: Baltimore Blast
Anybody remember the MISL? I wish that league would have survived. Very exciting game with the ball ricocheting off the boards. I thought it was pretty cool.
England: Tottenham & Chelsea
Saw them both play on their home fields last year. I have relatives in London so I tend to root for the London clubs but I like most of the Premier League (accept Man U.!) You could also argue that I should be a QPR fan since that was the first Premier League match I went to (vs. Middlesbrough with Juninho).
Germany: Hertha Berlin
I'm part German too, although maybe I should support Hannover as well since part of my family came from there.
Scotland: Celtic
I hate Rangers.
Italy: Fiorentina
I hate Inter, A.C., Junventus, Parma & Lazio. Roma is ok.
Holland: Vitesse Arnhem
Probably because of my interest in history and the WWII battle fought there, "A Bridge Too Far".
Don't really have a definitive favorite in the Spanish Liga yet. I do like underrated Valencia & Real Betis. I don't like Barcelona (good players though) & Real Madrid (overrated).
astolfo 20-12-1999, 05:27:PM I Love: PALMEIRAS
I Like:BOTAFOGO/SP, SANTOS, LUSA, ATLÉTICO/MG, VASCO
I Dislike: SÃO PAULO, COMERCIAL/SP
I Hate: CORINTHIANS, BOTAFOGO/RJ
Canoe 20-12-1999, 08:52:PM Love : Arsenal
Holland
Hate : Russian rocket, cause he likened Arsenal to Chelsea. Too many foreigners eh ? 5 out of 11 for the normal XI is on par with even Man utd.
GOONERBHOY 20-12-1999, 11:10:PM I think people do only have one favourite team. That is per league. Everyone must have a team they support then some they go for. I`ve Supported Celtic all my life and have gone for Arsenal since 1989 (i think most of us know what happend that season) but in actual fact i`ve come to support Arsenal too.
With regards in going for teams within the same league thats rediculous. In the Brittish prems i like Aberdeen, Hearts, Hibs, Everton, Coventry, Sunderland and Westham. Also i like to watch ManU and Spurs cause they are class as long as they don`t win. Now if any of these teams are playing i wan`t them to win unless their us against my teams.
Oh and Div 1 come on Ipswich and Man City.
Sella 21-12-1999, 06:14:AM Polish -
You're right about cheering for the best, but....
Only 3 of my five are the best in their league, and the other two rarely win any titles.
Milan wasn't the best team in Italy last year, and still isn't the same team it was not too many years ago.
Although Barcelona is really something exceptional in Spain, Manchester only won the championship and FA cup by a hair, and the ECC, of course....
The truth is most of my favorite clubs haven't been prominent in most tournaments usually, and recently none of them is really any good...
But generally, you're right. Many more people cheer for known (and quality) clubs. It's a lot harder cheering for the underdog, although even "smaller" clubs have their lures, like Newscastle, but in the Italian league, for example, half the teams are considered "giants" that it's not fair to root for....
Also, why are there almost only European clubs here? Doesn't anybody root for River Plate or Boca? or Palmeires?

I hate: galatasaray
Juninhio 29-12-1999, 06:56:AM Some of these may seem to contridict each other from rivalries but here it goes:
AS Roma - a friendly place for Brasilian players for quite a while.
Lazio - same for Argentinians
- they should call the Rome derby the South American superstar derby
Inter and AC Milan
Juventus
Arsenal Manchester, Middlesbourgh (Juninhio, Ince and God Bless him Gazza), Oh and also for time being NewCastle - I feel sorry for Shearer
Barca, Deportvio - see AS Roma reason, Real Madrid
Bayern Leverkusen Bayern Munich

Down Under 29-12-1999, 12:26:PM Fav teams:
ENGLAND: Newcastle United!!!!!!!!
(division 1 i kinda like Man city)
SCOTLAND: Celtic
(cause i hate Rangers)
ITALY: AC Milan
(I like laughing at Inter, cause they are so rich yet incompetant!)
AUSTRALIA: South Melbourne
(see them tackle Manchester United in the world club cup thing, oughtta be a beauty)
Teams I hate (With a ferocious vengance):
Sunderland (for obvious reasons to any Geordie, or any onlooker for that matter)
Stevenage Borough & Hereford (same as above, with hatred and anger pulsating through my mind[steve-e-o , perhaps we should be a little worried about Sheff U if these teams are any precedants])
Teams i strongly dislike(in no particular order):
Manchester United
AS Roma
Arsenal (only slightly though http://www.soccergaming.com/ubb/smile.gif )
Chelsea
Rangers
Teams i laugh at (or feel comfortable playing against):
Tottenham (cause they always seem to run into the Magpies in cup competions, and always get beaten by us. Sleeping giants, in my opinion.)
Carlton FC (in Australia League)(Cause they only pull crowds of 1000 to their home games. They are in need of a good marketing publicist)
Teams i admire:
The Liverpool team from their Glory Era: for just being pure brilliant.
Current Leeds United team: For taking it up to Man U. A group of skillful and determined youngsters.
Thats it from me, any arguments with my OPINIONS would be very much welcome http://www.soccergaming.com/ubb/smile.gif

Bayern Munich in last years euro cup final
Down Under 30-12-1999, 01:42:PM GOONERBHOY,
I only 'slightly dislike' Arsenal because they beat us (Newcastle) in the FA Cup Final in '98.
Everything else about them is fine, it is only that i hate the feeling of being beaten. It's the same reason I dislike AS Roma, cause they knocked us out of the UEFA Cup this year. This feeling will where off though (maybe in about 10,000,000 years) so maybe then i may 'slightly like' Arsenal.
Another reason I go for Celtic is Viduka. He is by far my fav Aussie player. But still they main reason is Rangers (arrrgggghhhhh!)
P.S. Whose played FAPLM 2000? I reckon its the best management game ive played and as a soccer game better than FIFA 2000.
GOONERBHOY 31-12-1999, 01:47:AM Marko Viduka in the form he`s in at the moment is easilly the best Aussie in the game. Immagine him patnered up with Larsson and both in form, OOOHHHH yeah!
I think that most people support Manchester united because they are currently the best team in England. The same applies to Liverpool of the 80s. I have to say that those true fans go through thick and thin, glory or no glory, trophy or no trophy. Once united goes down, fans would go support other teams. (except for true fans.) For me, though i have started watching football very late(1997), i still support liverpool simply because of its history. I was bitterly disappointed last year when pool finished with just 45 points. Fans should not quit supporting the club when it is down. Go through the thick and thin with the club!
Favourites:1. Liverpool
2. Inter
3. Barcelona
Down Under 31-12-1999, 05:54:AM When they are together and in form, Celtic will be unbeatable. They have to tighten up their defense though, it seems very loose....
However, i have faith that this is the year they will beat Rangers.
Eredivisie 31-12-1999, 09:28:PM Netherlands: PSV Eindhoven, NEC Nijmegen and Roda Juliana C. Kerkrade
England: Sunderland
Scotland: Celtic
Although there play al lot of Dutchmen at Rangers, I hate Rangers
Spain: Celta de Vigo, SuperDepor de La Coruna and Atletico de Madrid
I hate barca because buying half of the dutch national team has nothing to do with football.
Italy: AC Parma
Germany: FC Schalke 04, Eintracht Frankfurt
Czech Republic: SK Ceske Budejovice, I actually played against them
My motto: EU **** off , back with the foreigners limit
