Even though I support all the italian teams in these cups, I'm going to look at the positive side and say the international's will now be more rested for Euro 2000. By the time June rolls around, it is going to feel like a very long season.

Juve started playing in August, this is their second loss in all these games in the Serie A plus UEFA cup, but they surely deserved this setback, because it sucks to always aim at a 1-0.

Parma played SOOOO bad it is incredible, only their last 20 mins were o.k., but that's it.

Roma should have won 3-1 at the Olympico, they lost to th 2nd best team in the PL.

Udinese was unlucky.

But these are no excuses, it is a scandal that there ain't not 1 team in the quarters, from a nation that has dominated european cups in the past.

* Italian teams and fans put more focus un the Serie A than on cups. They are interested in finals, but all elimiation rounds mean little to them. Juve had 9000 visitors against Celta Vigo, they have at least 25000 against Venzia.
Check the line-ups: while in the Serie A they mostly use their best players, they underestimate their opponents in Europe and often play bench-warmers.
* Italian teams sell and buy far too much. They seem to have the best teams when you look at the names, but teams get mixed up every year and there is little "system" in their play. Parma has better players on all 11 positions than Werder, but they are a collection of stars, while Werder is a team. And teams win.
* DON'T EVER SAY AGAIN THAT THE FOREIGNERS ARE THE ONLY REASON WHY ITALIAN CLUBS ARE DOING GREAT. There are more of them every year, but since they change to teams so often, that hurts. This year was a disaster.

For Italy I am happy that it ended this way, because now they get all to time to prepare for Euro2K.
In 1994 they won all 3 competitions, and in 1998 they had 3 finalists. They did not play at their level at these events, because players are stressed.

It was 2-0 when Montero was sent off. Conte got hooked at 1-0. Dork.

HEY, ZAMBROTTA I WONDER......

Would a team like Juventus (being used to getting to the Champions League finals ...and this year being in a battle for the Seria A) be all that dissapointed to be out of the UEFA Cup? I just started following European soccer, so I dont know if that cup is a real big deal or not. I know a championship team like Juventus never wants to lose, but I bet theyre not all that upset about it. Now they can concentrate on the Scuddeto.

Believe me they might say it's for the best but there is a hell of a lot of people disappointed, these teams got knocked out just when things started to get interesting.

Now think of all the money they lose from tv rights, where RAI shows all these games on Tue and Thurs, and all the fans who like to watch these games on tv. Also if you think Juve are happy to be out, they had to go through Intertoto cup just to qualify for UEFA, if they wanted to concentrate on Seria A why did they even bother to enter Intertoto then, that wouldnt make sense.

I still blame Montero for Juves loss. He's just too stupid.Remember ,it was only 1-0 when Montero got the red card.

Well, they surely put the scudetto over the UEFA cup. Of course they'd like to win the UEFA cup, but look at the effort they made... They never drew their best players, and the response by the fans was non existent.
It would have been something else if was the CL, but even there they only put all their heart into the final. Since last year that was enough, for the future it won't be. I still think that the Serie A is the best league in the world, even if it may sound like a paradigm, but it surely will be dissapointing if Italian teams will go on in cups like this year...expect a strong come-back next year, mostly in the CL. Lazio-Inter-Juve-Milan (or Roma) make a strong team...the italian pride is hurt...

to Rossi: you idiot said that Montero was sent off on 1-0, I just said he was not. And 2-0 with 10 men and that ref, his ejection was negligible.
