ok, I was loving this movie just for the trailers, but after seeing it now, I can safely say that this is the funniest movie of the year. and its one of the best comedies ever too.

will ferrell is a monster as Ron Burgundy with enough jokes and situations to make you laugh during all the movie :funny:

but then you also have the supporting cast, Paul Rudd, David Koechner and specially Steven Carell, he's a genius. 100 times funnier than in Bruce Almighty :rockman:

and then of course all the cameos which I wont spoil for now cause there are so many and its always funny :bob:

all the scenes with Ron Burgundy doing the news are excellent and all the scenes with Carrell too.
he was the best of the supporting characters but still not enough to beat Will Ferrell. Ron Burgundy is trully a legend.

ANCHORMAN IS THE FUNNIEST FILM OF THE YEAR AND ONE OF THE TOP 10 EVER

http://www.christina-applegate.net/movies/anchorman2004/pictures/anchorman01.jpg

Spoilers and cameos below...

- Jack Black's scene kicking the dog is awesome. I coudlnt stop laughing. when he ask's ron what are his favorite things I knew something with the dog coming up but I never thought he was going to kick him down the bridge

- the battle of the network scene is a classic. all the guys coming in for the different teams: vince vaughn, ben stiller, luke wilson and tim robins who was funny but Im thinking that something happened to Owen Wilson and they called tim cause really Owen was the only one missing.
and watch for Carrell's character during the battle. he gets the best kills: a trident??? rofl: and then the grenade

I forgot to say, there are a lot of scenes they cut that are on the trailer and not in the movie.
I read they already have planned like a 4 hours cut of the movie (Y)

Will Ferrel is one of the funniest people in the world. I have never seen him do bad in a movie. I thought the Trailer was pretty funny but I wasn't sure. Now that I hear from other people it's funny i will probably go and see it.

I saw it was really good but I still rate Dodgeball higher I mean any movie with a pirate is ace.

On a seperate note when did Christina Applegate become so ugly. Age hit her like a ton of bricks. I mean there were times in the movie I thought her face had been badly burned or something.

Hakeem
12-07-2004, 01:15:AM
thats exactly why I think the movie was so good. It wasnt stupid comedy like Dumb and Dumber or Dude, Where's my car?.
this one actually felt like a normal comedy but with nonstop laughs
plus the idea of it being a real biography makes it even better :funny: (Y)

You see I loved Dodgeball for the bit of randomness it brought. You couldn't see what was going to happen next alot of the time. Anchorman I thought was bit too predictable on the delivery of jokes. I still score Anchorman high up there though I mean I will go see it again before I see any of the crap I saw in the previews.

Girl goes half-way cross country.

Dude has no car.

Kidnappers chase dude for briefcase.

Dudes battle for girl.

Kidnappers try to kill dudes.

Dudes are unkillable.

Girl is already married... :(

Bus comes.

Bus has hot chicks.

Hot chicks need massages before shows.

the fight scene was the funniest thing i've seen in a while. we had people in the theater falling out of their chairs. and when ben stiller yelled "POLICIA" the whole theater almost died laughing. it was a wierd movie to me, kind of like a comedy that doesn't care if its funny or not, its just there, and if you like stupid sensless humor go watch it. i loved it.

I thought Dodgeball was fun yeah, but I dont know why I dont loved it. actually, right now if I think about it the only really funny scene I remember is when the big black guy comes to pick up Ben Stiller in the scooter  but besides that scene, the rest wasnt all that good for me :(
I think my main problem with the movie is that Vince Vaughn good here. dont know why. he didnt seem to like what he was doing.

and comparing it to Anchorman, I cant stop quoting Ron Burgundy. or laughing by myself while remembering all the scenes with Steve Carrell

and Old School, its awesome, better that Dodgeball IMO but since Anchorman is only one week old, and I loved it so much, im going with Anchorman for now.
Ill have to wait till anchorman comes on cable and they start showing it everyday. I know I watch Old School every time they show it so Ill really compare them then :p

meh, funny movie, but some of you took it too far saying you laughed through the whole movie... some parts were extremely sad... like every scene which involved Christina Applegate talking, or any scene with that guy (not Ron, not Rick, not Champ, but the other ****in idiot who ruined the entire movie) talking...

Steve Carrell is a ******* god amongst men in this movie... everything he did was brilliant, and how he did it (Y)

not a bad movie, but not the best... 3/5

Ya, i saw this movie opening night. Have been counting down the days of its release since way back in January. And i wasnt dissapointed in the slightest. A truly epic film. my only quips with it are that half the jokes from trailers werent in movie. I also wish Owen Wilson played the character of Tim Robbins and Ben Stillers amazing latino character had some lines. But some GREAT news to all those who loved film as much as me.

The director said they had over 4 hrs of cut material. He said that with the movies DVD release, hell have a seperate movie called 'wake up: Ron burgundy' featuring all the scenes which were cut.

Now im counting down the days til the DVD release, which im guessing will be early November.

Ya, about Dodgeball, i didnt have the highest expectations, and i was actually quite surprised with how funny it was. Unfortunately, the NONE of the characters on Vince Vaughns team were funny AT ALL. the tall skinny guy, black guy (BRUTAL), awkward teenager were all just plain unfunny. the nervous guy with glasses (stapler guy from Office space) was decent. Vince Vaughn played the 'straight character' well, but it was a waste of his comedic talents. and Rip torn, old guy on wheelchair, i couldnt stand him. The announcers were alright, but really they couldve done SO MUCH more with that idea. The worst part of this movie was its casting. Ben Stiller/Vaughn were no brainers, but other than that, pretty awful job.

Funny parts:

- Hank Azarria as young hoops o'hallohan
- referee yelling 'Dodgeball!!'
- Ben Stiller was amazing throughout
- Chuck Norris and David Hasselhoff made this movie great
- the idea of dodgeball tournament
- espn 8
- the whole dodgeball tournament
- the portrait in stillers office (him wrestling bull)
- the end in credits "******* Chuck Norris"

Overall 7.5/10. This movie couldve been easily a 10 if it was made better, and the average joes roster wasnt so painfully unfunny. Again, that black guy was just plain brutal.

Just got the news today. Some bittersweet news i guess.

Anchorman will come out on DVD on December 28. Most movies come out quicker than this (spider-man 2 came out a week before, and is on DVD early November). This could mean theyre spending more time on the extras, so thats a good news. Its worth the wait, but still, come on.

damn thats some bad news, but that means i can get it for my bday

but i just saw it a couple days ago and its safe to say i wasnt let down. people were saying its better than old school but i think there about the same. burgundy was brilliant, brick made the movie in my mind, so much more, its safe to say ill be seeing it again.

another good part is when everyone is yelling in the office and brick says
- I DONT KNOW WHAT WERE YELLING ABOUT
then he says
-LOUD NOISES
and then
-i read somewhere that there periods attract bears...bears they can smell the menstration

i was almost on the floor

Just bought the "gift set" yesterday, this is the funniest movie since 'Old School' and i think it deserves its own thread.

One thing id like to say, to me, the best part of the movie was all the confrontations between Burgundy and other news teams (Vince Vaughn as 'Wes Mantooth'), all climaxing at the big 'gangs of new york' type fight scene, possibly the greatest scene of all time. I think a movie all based on that would be an amazing idea if they made a sequel.

My one problem with the movie was that Owen Wilson wasnt involved somewhere. The character of Tim Robbins (who is out of place in this film with this cast) wouldve been perfect for Wilson. My other problem was all the scenes left out in theatre version, but there on the bonus disc so thats settled.

Hakeem
30-12-2004, 01:54:AM
totally agree, funniest movie of the year. and these were my comments after seeing it:

I really thought this is one of the best comedies ever.
I cant wait to see all those scenes again. the dog, the battle of the networks, the jazz flute, and so much more.

ANCHORMAN IS THE FUNNIEST FILM OF THE YEAR AND ONE OF THE TOP 10 EVER

the Battle of the Networks scene is one of the funniest scenes (if not the funniest) in cinematic history

edit: and yeah, Owen Wilson instead of Tim Robbins would've been the top of the iceberg since already got Ben Stiller, Vince Vaughn, Luke Wilson, Will Ferrell and Jack Black :D

Just watched 'Wake Up Ron Burgundy'. Much better and different than i thought. I pictured it just being a huge collection of deleted scenes, but instead it was actually a different storyline altogether, more like a "sequel" than anything. Some genuine great moments in this movie. If they cleaned it up a bit, they couldve released this in theatres as a sequel.

The crazy thing is that, even though they released the original movie as an Extended edition, than made Wake Up ron burgundy, they still have a LOT of deleted scenes on the disc. For a comedy, this is the greatest DVD ever released, with all the features, and ive yet to listen to the commentary either.

And Hakeem tell me whats on that 3rd disc you got, im really pissed mine didnt come with one.

Its a shame most people wont even see this as theyd prob just buy the standard DVD instead of the 2 disc set. Really, i see no reason why they couldnt have just made one 2 disc edition instead of releasing numerous versions, a lot of movies do that anyway. the obvious reason would be to make more money, but i dont think thats the only reason.

My only problems with this DVD set were that they didnt provide any deleted scenes/bloopers/additional footage for the best scene (networks battle). And that the 'wake up' movie didnt have a scene selection option, which for a comedy is sorely missed.

Cant wait for 'Talladega Nights', coming out in 2006. Like Anchorman, Will Ferrell and Adam Mackay are writing and Mackay is directing.

Hakeem
31-12-2004, 06:06:AM
ok, just watched the Best Buy Exclusive 3rd Disc and it contains 4 featurettes:

1- Today's Headlines: all of these are extended versions (not shown in the Disc 1 extras) of various scenes. there's a few new scenes though like one of Veronica Corningstone going out on a date with a guy.

2- Special Report: these are different takes of the scene with Champ Kind talking about how he ****ted a squirrell :p and different takes of the scene when Ron insults San diego.

3- Commercial Break: its a behind the cameras, kinda short actually (maybe 3 minutes) where we have Brian Fantana walking around the sets in his underwear :p
there's also a behind the camera with Luke Wilson getting ready his arm that is going to be cut off. Will Ferrell and Tim Robbins (both in character) are close by laughing at him :p

4- Ron Burgundy Exclusive: Bill Kurtis (the narrator)conducts an interview, in character, with Ron Burgundy, Veronica Corningstone and Brian Fantana, about journalism and their personal lives.

I havent seen the second disc so I dont know if these are repeated or not but they're definetly NOT in the first disc extras so Im guessing they're really exclusive stuff :D

Just finished watching Anchorman and ultimately I have to say I'm a little disapointed. From the comments I read I thought it would have been a lot funnier than it was. Don't get me wrong, I was laughing out loud quite a few times but just not as much as I expected.
I also noticed that an aweful lot of (really good) scenes were cut from the movie (I got the DVD rental version) that should have stayed in the movie. Maybe the Director's cut DVD Special Edition (if there is such a thing) would be better.
It also featured some great cameos. Jack Black, Tim Robbins, Vince Vaughan, Ben Stiller, Luke Wilson, great stuff!
Overall, very funny. But not as funny as I expected it to be.

Also, the "Afternoon Delight" song is awesome, love it!
I noticed that Rob Machado (pro surfer) is in the Afternoon Delight music video for some strange reason, he plays the bass. Is he a friend of Will's or what?

This is him.

well, its hard to compare any comedy to Old School.

Itd be like going into every Al Pacino movie looking for something better or equal to the Godfather.

and if you combine the laughs from the second bonus anchorman movie, youve got a lot of laughs. the scene where the 4 of them are in car and Champ is professing his love to Burgundy, and everyone is ignoring Champ. Brilliance (Y).
