View Full Version : Copa America- Argentina vs. Uruguay (P+R)
pasion1 13-07-2004, 11:09:AM Time for the big South American Clasico. Whos gonna take it?
I say a 1-1 tie but since Uruguay is resting all its players for the quarter finals.....i say 2-0 or 2-1 for Argentina.
dannyeli 13-07-2004, 11:12:AM the biggest is Brazil vs. Argentina :p
But i say 2-1 Argentina
Spider-Man84 13-07-2004, 11:18:AM Yeah the South American Classic is Brasil vs Argentina...
Score tommorow will be 2-1 with Argentina being victorious.
Goals by:
Saviola
Delgado
#1 Stunna 13-07-2004, 11:33:AM 1-0 for Uruguay...

i know.....but i just said "the big clasico" (like the big game).
Its actually a triple/triangle rivalry thing (all three nations border each other)....cause of history and the nations......
Top Clasicos (importance/history):
1) Brazil/Argentina (obvious for who they are.....and they just dont like eachother)
2) Argentina/Uruguay
3) Brasil/Uruguay (SO much history)
4) Colombia/Ecuador/Venezuela?
Id say USA/Mexico is upon my favorites.
Im so hyped. Their hyping this game as so huge. All of Peruan press awaiting it like crazy. Even here in toronto.... the Europeans have woken to another "Argentina/Uruguay"
Sorin was quoted saying "This is more than any game in the Copa....its a Clasico.......so its not gonna be like any game"
My favorite show in Argentina "Mar de Fondo" (2 helarious reporters) are actually specifically gonna go to the Uruguay Concentration tomorow for the event. Should be funny.
Gonna be so great!
EDIT: Come to think of it.....Its kinda like in england. I was thinking of another main triple rivalry and i found it. Liverpool/ManU/Arsenal. All three facing eachother are derbys/clasicos.
dannyeli 13-07-2004, 01:07:PM Ecuador vs. Venezuela is not as big as Colombia vs. Venezuela, at least for us.... i don't know what colombians think about that.
Bosnian 13-07-2004, 01:08:PM Sorry to get off topic, but its more like Chelsea, ManU, Arsenal now

I wouldnt take off Liverpool for its history (theyve just been bad lately).........Man U/Liverpool will always be huge (even in Man U falls in a ditch in a few years)
Id actually have it originally be Chelsea/Liverpool/ManU and now Aresenal now that they are amazing (actually my fave European team).
OH 7-8 hours to go!
ninobomba 13-07-2004, 10:51:PM for Colombian a super classico would be Colombia vs Argentina
acmilan101 13-07-2004, 10:55:PM Argentina all the way.

Yeah after Colombia killed Arg 5-0.....ill never forget that.
#1 Stunna 14-07-2004, 12:39:AM so what happened with Montero and that #11? are they playing or are they still injured?
pasion1 14-07-2004, 12:52:AM No....their all gone (Bueno...Montero...Cebolla etc.)
Rested for quarter finals....(theyr injured for today anyways)
So....much different team is playing today.
pasion1 14-07-2004, 07:09:AM only 30 minutes left.:p
Well Mexico is about to win. So this game will determine who faces Colombia and Peru (Winner faces Peru.....Loser...... Colombia or Brazil.)
There are no easy teams in copa America but I think any of these 3 are not going to lay down to Argentina or Uruguay.
EDIT: 2-1
GO ECUADOR!
Spider-Man84 14-07-2004, 07:46:AM Game Time! They just interviewed an Argentino and asked him if Bielsa will stay as coach, and he said yes and had a very pleasnt smile. :rockman:
skull 14-07-2004, 07:50:AM For a while the Classico for us has been Colombia v Argentina ... also that Uruguay v Argentina is probably the second biggest classic in South America.. and I think they both play to death more than when they play Brazil...
skull 14-07-2004, 07:53:AM Uruguay came out with a red kit.. thats the 1st time I've seen it.. looks weird
shokz 14-07-2004, 07:55:AM what a goal! 1-0 Uruguay
Uruguay are in the Red Shirt/White Shorts/Socks.
0le_Spain 14-07-2004, 07:56:AM Great goal by Estoyanoff

soccerbest 14-07-2004, 08:26:AM 2-2 now
Bummy_JaB 14-07-2004, 08:27:AM HAHA EL PATO caught sleeping
Brujo 14-07-2004, 08:27:AM el pato sucks. they need to take him off and put cavallero in there.
dannyeli 14-07-2004, 08:28:AM WOW... that should have been a red card (again) :kader:
Bummy_JaB 14-07-2004, 08:28:AM Well he plays better with Boca for sum reason. And the goals against him are bullets like that other guy said. BUT this time it was his fault
0le_Spain 14-07-2004, 08:30:AM D'Alessandro is lucky if he makes it to HT:kader:

best first half of tournament for sure... a war.

so, is el pato considered to be better than cavallero?
Spider-Man84 14-07-2004, 08:43:AM No pasion1, it was Ayala...
El Pato needs to go. He has given up some easy goals, not today but in general. Snyper, you said he was good and better then Cavallero? :kader:
El Pato is a good GK for Boca but like the announcers said, he is not a National Team GK. Cavallero needs to start next game because Pato is just not getting it done. Cavallero is an awesome GK, he kicks ass. He has skills, although El Mono was good in the preliminaries for the 02 World Cup, but he is too old now.
Spider-Man84 14-07-2004, 08:46:AM Brujo, no he isn't. Marcelo Bielsa is just trying him out to see how he will do. Cavallero is Argentina's #1 GK without question. He is most talented and has most experience out of pretty much anyone under 30 right now. He started in the World Cup.
The game is having some hard battling action. A lot of hard fouls...poor Andres. :( Argentina have an extra man and I think that'll play to their advantage in the last 15 miins of the game. I think they will pull out the win.

Don't bring this topic up again. As bad as Abbondanzieri looks, Cavallero is worse. The first goal was unstopable.
Burgos had lung cancer over a year ago and isn't interested in playing for the NT which is fair after he was screwed over once. Enough of this topic, talk about the game.
The ref is losing control, D'Alessandro is being abused since he accidentally stepped on Sosa. We're really lucky to be tied and to not be down to 10 men. :(
Como me decepciona esta seleccion.:(

No I think Cavallero is more of national team keeper, el pato is only good in Boca, although he was sitting in the bench for Oscar Cordoba for four years that could have had some major influence in his development...
Bummy_JaB 14-07-2004, 08:49:AM I LOVE this game so far. It looks like Street Fighter Vs Capcom out there.:rockman: :rockman:
SnYper 14-07-2004, 08:50:AM Ahead of Cavallero there are two goalies in my opinion. Sebastian Saja and Gustavo Campagnuolo. (Y)
Spider-Man84 14-07-2004, 08:52:AM Campagnuolo...no way. He has been called up a few times to the seleccion but I dont think he is better than Cavallero. No way. Cavallero is Argentina's #1 GK. Hey Snyper would you like to continue our conversation via PM?

Broke his arm and has been out and had Lux take over. He's excellent as well but young.
Spiderman, I told you, take it to the Foro en Español and open a thread, you'll get opinions from other Argentinos.;)
Brujo 14-07-2004, 08:56:AM Could somebody tell me what clubs chelo delgado and luciano figueroa played for in Argentina?
Spider-Man84 14-07-2004, 09:44:AM Final...4-2 Argentina...so it will be Agrentina vs Peru...now I am torn between the two.
Good game, Argentina has 10 goals in 3 games. They slowed up a bit in the 2nd half, but heated up in the final minutes. Nice play by Tevez to Figeroa, and nice job by Ayala to get up and score. Two nice goals.
Bummy_JaB 14-07-2004, 09:47:AM Tevez is always moving. Even when he plays bad he just doesnt stand there and do nothing. He was awesome for the 15 min he got to play.

think it might be Uruguay/Colomiba.....UNLESS Chile loses or ties to Costa Rica tomorow.
Ruben Sosa 14-07-2004, 10:12:AM I think Brazil is more likely. Neither Chile or Costa Rica have much, from what I've seen, they're likely to draw with each other.
Spider-Man84 14-07-2004, 10:20:AM nino...check out the forum en espanol (Y)
Glad to beat those dirty c*nts. :kader:
as usual, uruguay try to break our players legs
I would have like to see a real ref take this match.
anyways...
Argentina played well in the first 60 minutes, and then in the next 25 we were terrible. Tevez and Saviola coming on helped. (Y)
The first Uruguay goal was fantastic :o
I'm glad we moved on though
-------
We will play Peru I think:(
I hate playing the hosts.:kader:
Spider-Man84 14-07-2004, 10:53:AM You hate playing the hosts? I am torn on who I want to win...:(

woa woa.....dont say Ayala didnt almost break Vicente Sanchez's legs twice (when it was 90% sure goal plays).
Argentina "tries" to act like a European team when they play. But vs. Uruguay they always go rough and show their true side (u played with alot of garra today)
Second half...Uruguay didnt even touch argentina anymore (thanks to Fossatti calming them down).
Not even Brazil gives u guys that much of a hard time. :rockman:
and trust me ....if ur gonna cry and pretend Dalesandro didnt almost break Sosa's legs when he was on the floor (u know Dalesandro is a son of a bitch when he gets pissed.) and try to pretend u didnt get as rough as us.......cause thats just cowardly and hypocrite like. (not to mention crying about it.......real manly. )
calling us c*nts.....ur funny.
Just glad we made the Argentine press Furious that we still managed to shut u down with 1 man less (and with a 70% sub team tonight from the other 2 games)......Bielsa's seconds are numbered. :rockman:
Have fun in Peru......think about why Uruguay is happy in the dressing room now :mrpimp:
Dont call us c*nts
Ruben Sosa 14-07-2004, 11:29:AM Don't strain yourself Pasion, RUSI obviously hasn't looked in a mirror for the last two decades.
Uruguay deserved to have atleast two players sent off in the first half. That is the way Uruguay have always played. How many times were they gonna chop D'Alessandro and Kily down? :|
You might need to watch it again.
Argentina missed many chances. As you said Uruguay deserve credit for playing well with 10 men though they deserved it.
I hope we don't play you guys again because I want to see D'Alessandro's career flourish, not explode due to a bad injury.
As for Bielsa, I hope his days are numbered. Most of the ppl. on these boards can probably do a better job than him.
Who do you guys play now, Brazil?
LOCOlombia 14-07-2004, 11:44:AM Yes, El Pato sucks for Argentina, even for Boca, he was benching 4 years straight thanks to Oscar Córdoba...

I guess it is turning into a "clasico" now that Venezuela wants to play, but yea after that 5 - 0 thumping by Colombia http://www.planetsmilies.com/smilies/fighting/1/fighting25.gif, Colombia vs Argentina has turned into a bigger rivalry than before.
SnYper 14-07-2004, 11:48:AM Rusi, they got rough with D'Alessandro after he stepped on Sosa's leg which could've been a red card.
IMO, Ayala could've been sent off on two occasions. The first being the kick on Sanchez and the latter being when he brought down Cebolla Rodriguez. That is 3 potential red cards for us so what does that say about us?
IMO, we got screwed with too many yellow cards. Mascherano is playing decent andwill miss our next match. Heinze played fairly well and Tevez did great on the 4th goal.(Y)
Calling uruguayans dirty ****s is absolutely lame, they treat us well and we accept them in our country ahead of any other south american.
Hopefully we regroup and get a more complete game from the team and beat Peru.:)

Only teams we play tough like that with are ARgentina and Brazil.
ONLY difference is Argentina actually has balls and fights back.....Brazil doesnt (Reason why we always beat them or tie......in last 30 years weve lost count at times weve won in important games).
They just fall back and lose.
It was an odd game (cause of the ref....red card)....but Argentina won well.
But dont take credit away from Uruguay's skilled players. If Ecuador had played all out like that.....they would have still lost 7-0....but they dotn have it in them to go crazy/end of the world like that.)
All i can say is that both teams have reported that they are happy that again they pulled a hell of a show! :rockman:
Congrats! Good luck in the quarters.
(We almost will play Colombia.......unless Chile looses to Costa Rica)
