This is a summary of what the official I , Robot page says....

The year is 2035 and robots are trusted everyone except for Will Smith a detective. Smith investigates a "crime" committed by a robot and discovers a ton of problems facing the human race that are threatening.

I honestly do not give a damn what Will Smith thinks in the movie or anything like that. I am going to watch it simply to get a good long AWAITED look at Bridget Moynahan......the chick in my sig....she is hot !:jacko:

no sig no. I just got the movie actually :p

anyway, the movie is good. really good. specially the robots.

"Sonny", the name of the robot acused of murder is awesome (Steve The Pirate from Dodgeball is the voice and the movements like Golum). this robot will be right up there in history as one of the collest robotsm ever with R2D2 and C3PO.

Will Smith is ok, though we see him naked like 3 or 4 times. they even show us his ass when he's talking a shower :(

now the bad:
its not an adaptation of Asimov's book. the credits say "Suggested by Isaac Asimov", and thats all it is from asivov. the robots and 3 Laws. but then its all really different.

the worse of the movie is Bridget Moynahan. he's such a bad actress here. really bad. and I loved her in The Recruit. but here she's so cold (N)

oh, and when SHE has shower scene, suddenly the bath has all this steam and we dont even see her legs :f***: (N)

anyway, its worth seeing I think. specially if you like robots.
You'll love Sonny (Y)

I liked Minority Report, it was better than what a lot of people have said about it.

I think this one does look the same, but also a tad along the lines of Men in Black with Robots...

Will Smith isn't to bad, I don't know why you people bag him, ID4 and Men in black were not to bad, he was good in them, Enemy of the State wasn't to bad either... I will see this movie, I am not a cheap arse, I will pay 10 dollars, it's not as if I wont get the money back anyway.

Enjoy.

money back from where?
I rarely ever go to theatres to see movies unless its something i've really been looking forward to.

I spend most of my day playing football.
If not playing the sport, playing video games releated to the sport, or searching the internet for info about football.
(i'm talking about soccer for all you americans and canadians)

(and maybe austrailians too? )

Doesn't this story seem alot loke that animatrix epsiode......

I saw a documentary on all the work the animators had to go through to make the robot feel real. Changing frame by frame the expressions on its face to be like the real life ones. If you didn't know, the actor was in the film with a green suit (except for the face) the whole movie. Then they later covered the face with the animation as i mentioned above. Just because of that, i'm giving this movie a chance, i'll see it on the weekend.;)

the Animatrix episodes where they show how the robots got to control the human race and all that is all based on Asimov so I guess you could say that The Animatrix is based on this.

I thought it looked crappy and stupid in the commercials, but It was quite interesting during the movie itself. 7 out of 10 IMO. Smith was pretty cool. And Sonny was cool, I felt bad for him at times. I dndt get the last scene...can someone who saw it PM me the answer as to what the final scene meant?

BTW, the girl was hott :hump:

Hakeem
19-07-2004, 08:21:AM
for me the final scene meant...

that Sonny, who is now the best (by best I mean that he's more evolutionated (sp?)) Robot would be the one that would make a revolution.
The scientist said that they would've evolve one day and make a revolution, so I think Sonny is going to be the next one to do that.
The other robots will follow him and they wont stay turned off in those boxes forever.

not about it really, but thats what I think without thinking it too much.
Id like to read Asimov's books now :)

check your PM. better if we dont go talking about it here since it could be all spoilers though basically I dont know a lot, but I think that the Animatrix shorts explain pretty nice the whole robotic laws and how robots will eventually get to dominate us and then it'd be reading Asimov's :)

The Animatrix is based on the whole Matrix thing... I don't think they would have gotten their ideas from this movie/book although it may seem similar.

I don't know about you but I think they took the entier matrix thing to far... should have stopped at the first one, what a great movie that was, not over done, a good balance of special effects and action invovled.

Anyway, I am going to see I Robot this week, friday, so in a few days, it should be good.

I also want to see King Authur... only to believe it will not be that good... But I will see it anyway.

And next week I will see The Chronicles of Riddick, I liked Pitch Black... this one does look good, despite my dislike for Vin Diesel.

Hakeem
19-07-2004, 10:44:AM
yeah, the animatrix is part of all the matrix trilogy. and there is when they show how it all started, which comes from Asimov's Laws of Robotics.

and yeah, the first matrix is great, and also the Animatrix. with Reloaded and Revolution it all kind of got messed up but as a whole I think the trilogy was great.

I loved The Matrix and Revolutions. Reloaded had the big problem of being the middle part of the trilogy and it had to introduce all this part that didnt existed in the original matrix, so it was all hard to understand at first, and then they had the problem (at least for me) of the very long Architech scene with the explanation. I found that part really long and boring to the point that I fell asleep in the theatre. If they would've make that part/explanation better, the movie would've been much better.

but again to I, Robot, most movies about robots are based on Asimov's rules :)

ps: Im planning on seeing The Chronicles of Riddick next week too (Y)

Well true then. I didn't really know because I have not seen I Robot so i cannot exactly comment. I guess it is the research of the directors other than someone stealing others ideas. The entier matrix trilogy is based on religion (eg, Neo dying at the end of the movie, with his arms spanded like Jesus on the cross, or the Mirovengien (sp?) being 'the devil' and lving in the 'hell' club etc.) and a way of life, only, they did it in a unique way.

I don't think the last two movies fit into the first one. The first one is based generally in the matrix, with neo coming into the 'real world', where it is still based around the characters on morpheus' ship. The next to go into more description and introduce new things that sometimes even contradict the first matrix, for example, at the end of the first movie, Neo says "i know what i have to do" when speaking on the phone, then in the next two movies he doesn't have a clue with what to do in his life... Small things like that just pi$$ed me off, and in the second movie a lot of 'overdone' effects were used, like when Neo fights 50 Smiths, and basically glides over their heads... it looks really bad.

The Architech scene was the one to listen to, if you don't get it then you miss out on a lot of important things. He does use a lot of 'big' words that aren't to understandable but if you watch it over and over again it gets you thinking...

I found overall though the last two movies could be seen as one, while the first one was a bit of an outcast, but was a lot better than the last two.

I do agree that it is a good trilogy, I enjoyed most parts of the films, but there were a lot of things silly about them that overall changed my opinion of the whole matrix thing...

But on another note... The chronicals of Riddick will be a good watch, I hope.

I really wouldn't mind seeing Alien vs Predator in the near future, however the story line is a little dissapointing to be honest:

"A pyramid is discovered in Antartica so people go to investigate, when they find Alien species there and soon realise that they are caught in the middle of a war between 'ALIEANS and PREDATORS!!', so, they get locked in the Pyramid and are used as bait by the species..."

hmm... I hope it turns out as good as the Alien or Predator movies... they were good... most of them anyway...

A dissapointment in terms of the storyline but if you are a tech person then it would be fun. It also seemed a bit far fetched that in 31 years technology would have advanced that much ! I say 7/10(a bit high simply cause Bridget Myonahan was in it.)

A real dissapointment !:crazyboy:
