EA have clearly distinguished themselves as the champions of the football genre over the last few years and despite producing games of a high quality that improve with each revision they have continually missed out on a feature which would improve the product no end.
This feature is the player \ manager career facility. I am not talking about turning FIFA into a ChampManager clone, with pages of statistics to wade through, but have league divisions, with relegation and promotion, have cups integrated and authentic to the league you are playing in. Have other teams bid for your players and have the opportunity to move between clubs. Be given a cash sum to buy players determined on winning. Be sacked for being rubbish, be offered international opportunities for being successful.
This isn't revolutionary folks. It was done on my ancient Amiga way back in the 1980's with Anco's Player Manager, (not the blasphamy touted on the PC in recent times), and again later on with Sensible World of Soccer, (again on the Amiga).
Fair enough, retain the standard FIFA format but add this career feature. It would increase the longevity of the game and make it much more enjoyable for the single player user. I fear this is partially the reason why EA haven't gone down this avenue, as they want users to upgrade every year and twice every World Cup and Euro Championship year and also to promote their FA Premier League Manager licence.
I have read the information to suggest that there will be some form of continuation between seasons in Fifa 2000, but I am doubtful if it will be a signigficant enough addition to address the lack of career mode in Fifa99.
How do other Fifa players feel about this issue ?
