View Full Version : WHY IS NO ONE GIVING LEEDS UTD CREDIT??
Kewell the Jewell 26-11-1999, 09:55:AM Okay!
I've decided to voice my opinion!!!!
Why is when people talk about the Premier League all hear is Man U, Arsenal and Chelsea!?
What about Leeds utd!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
the greatest young team in the world today!
You tell me a team that has the amount of young players that Leeds have and are as successful.
Manchester are playing shocking at the moment. Arsenal cannot perform where it matter - Europe. And Chelsea are just plain inconsistent.
Leeds utd are in the 3rd round of the UEFA cup and even with these Champions League teams in there they'll take the Cup by storm!
Sorry i had to write this in the FIFA 2000 forum but it is where is!
thanks!
DirkDiggler 26-11-1999, 10:46:AM Kewell I agree with you very much. Next season, after Leeds lose the UEFA Cup final to Rangers, when Leeds have more experience I see them going very far in the CL. I think they will finish top 3 of the premier league this season.
tonymead 26-11-1999, 10:48:AM Hey Kewell the Jewel (great name!) I agree with you 100% as a long time LUFC supporter our time is now and as for chelsea, a team full of talent but so unfocused it's unreal, I can't believe all the pundits that drool over them and then bemoan the lack of young English talent in the premiership.
Leeds are back and marching on together etc. etc.
Tony 'not yeboah' Mead
Kewell the Jewell 26-11-1999, 12:36:PM Theres gotta be more people that agreee with me!!!!!!!!!
Even if u dont write so i can see if ure opinion is good or not?
King Blue 27-11-1999, 02:28:AM Leeds are a young team that will slowly fade away in the league and be lucky to get a euro spot and will get knocked out in the uefa cup. Next season the team will start to break up and the other teams will be used to them and its back to fighting for four in the league.
Thats the way I see it anyway.
GOONERBHOY 27-11-1999, 02:55:AM Many people may think that leeds will fade away like Aston Villa did last season but i disagree. I think leeds will finish third behind Arsenal then ManU. As long as they keep Kewell they`ll be a quality side.
Dirk Diggler, Rangers are going out this round so forgetr it, Arsenal is taking out the cup.
DirkDiggler 27-11-1999, 04:00:AM GB: Perhaps you didn't see the score from the Borussia Dortmund game?
PolishPower 27-11-1999, 07:23:AM Sorry but I have to agree with King Blue they will fade away as the season goes on. Notice how they lost to Wimbledon 2-0 couple of weeks back, they hardly had a single chance on goal the whole game.
The worse thing is they lost Hasselbaink, with him in the squad I'd give them more of a shot at top finish.
Kewell the Jewell 27-11-1999, 09:40:AM polish power how can u say u agree with seeing the performance agaisnt agaisnt Wimbledon!
That was their first lose in 13 games and they had a mid week Euro game....they werent tired!
They are still a young team and teh next few years will see them blossom.......David o'Leary is good coach and keeps his team together. This is something that Arsenal and Man U will not do. At the end of this season both will lose key players.
I dont even see Chelsea as a threat at all as they are too inconsistent.
Instead of just looking at who has to the most expensive players look at the players in the team and how they are performing.
Who here thinks that Harry will one day become one of the best players in the world???
Kewell the Jewell 27-11-1999, 09:44:AM Sorry to write again but i have to reply to your next comment Polish Power about losing Hasselbaink and not standing a chance....
Hasselbaink was a good striker but he did not want to play for the team unless he got a ridulous amount of money. Meaning he did not want to play for Leeds.
In place of Hasselbaink is Michael Bridges and Darren Huckerby. These two certainly cover for Hasselbainks loss!!!!!!!
PolishPower 28-11-1999, 12:15:AM Ok in reply I do think Leeds have a chance to win the league this year but a small chance, maybe 10 percent if the things break right for them. I do think they will be satisfied as long as they finish in the top 3.
If Leeds can do it it will be a great story and 'Im sure many people will be happy, me included. Its just that Im looking at their situation realistically.
Russian Rocket 28-11-1999, 01:30:AM I hate Leeds Utd. Only because they postponed the game with Spartak.
The pitch on the game day was even better than Dynamo Kyiv played on on other day.
It is unfair to move the game to Bulgaria.
Plus, that stupid reglament that says that Spartak must cover half of Leeds Utd.'s experiences in Bulgaria. Leeds is about 2-3 times richer than Spartak and they would have good chances of going past Spartak without postponing the game.
It is unfair to Spartak Moscow who really counts the money. They lost about 1 million right now.
If Leeds would pass Spartak, I would really hope that they would go down in the next round.

Kewell the Jewell 28-11-1999, 03:44:AM Rusian Rocket!
How can u blame Leeds for YOUR pitch!
if you wanted all the players to get injured then they should have played the game....
but if u want see a proper game of football then postpone the game and play it in a suitable venue.
And Leeds lost alot money through this aswell and at least teh Spartak fans didnt have to pay airfares to get to the game.
How do you think the traveling Leeds supporters feel?
Luís Carlos 28-11-1999, 03:53:AM I'm not a Leeds fan- actually I don't like Leeds United - but I have to say that Leeds- huh, I hate that name- have some good players on the front that can make fans forget about Jimmy.
Leeds have some chances to get the championship, but that's going to be hard... they might be runners up . Nevertheless one thing must be said, until now they deserve their current standing.
Russian Rocket 29-11-1999, 05:10:AM 2Kewell the Jewell:
I think there is alot of difference between English Clubs and Russian Clubs.
Unfortunately for Russian Clubs, English clubs are richer.
Have you seen pitch report on which Dynamo Kyiv and Real Madrid played?
It was worse than on stadium Leeds and Spartak would play.
And Spartak lost more money than Leeds, plus, again, Spartak has to cover half of Leeds' experiences in Bulgaria, where the will be.
I think Leeds had go on the pitch and play, neither asking the ref about postponing the game.
What would you think if the final of FA Cup with, for example Man.U. would have moved from Leeds Stadium to Highbury?
Italy82 29-11-1999, 05:18:AM The only way i would give Leeds credit is if they can perform in Europes competitions like CL and UEFA,if they perform only im the premier league but screws up in the European Competitions then forget about .
GROBAR_OTAGO 29-11-1999, 06:21:AM I also dont like Leeds, Why? you ask
I'll tell you why: You all remember the Partizan Belgrade incident when leeds where
too chicken to go to Yugoslavia so they asked UEFA to give some ass of an reason why
Yugo is too dangurous to play Fottie in,
then ofcours they had to do the same for Red Star and Vojvodina, now even FIBA has our Basketball clubs playing home games in Bosnia and Greece.
SymonX 29-11-1999, 06:42:AM Leeds seems to be a pretty good team so far this season, but they'll have to go through some real challenges before they can be called a great team. Spartak Moscow is the first one, and I honestly don't think Leeds will go through, even though they moved the game from Moscow to Bulgaria.
PolishPower 29-11-1999, 07:57:AM Ok from what I read the ref called the game off not because the pitch was bad but because the temperature was -18Celsius(don't know how much that is Fahrenhite but it sounds pretty cold) and a strong wind was blowing.
I don't blame Leeds I blame UEFA for making decision like this on the fly intead of having some kind of regulations about when and where games take place. That they moved this game to neutral site I think is an outrage, but no one cares because its not a rich Western European team. Why haven't games been moved from Norway or Iceland, I do remember Chelsea playing a Cup Winners Cup game in a snowstorm last season.
Canoe 29-11-1999, 05:44:PM Kewell - I agree with you, I think Leeds is a great team, good blend of youth complimented by a dash of experience where necessary. They won't fade, why ? Cause they're a building team, and just like man utd built up a team of local youngsters , so Leeds is building for their future. BUT, they need one or two more quality players, either local or foreigners, cause the problem for Leeds is in their squad depth. As for Kewell himself, great player, but not the make all be all of Leeds. And in O'Leary they've got a man committed to the club, and apparently he was recently offered a jopb for life by the chairman ( don't know whether this is true or not though ). And the best thing to happen to Leeds recently, the sale of Hasselbaink. Leeds doesn't need money hungry greedy Van hooijdonk impersonators.
And what you said bout the managers are true. As much as I love Arsenal, a few players are there for the money and money alone. We won't easily see Arsenal players playing for 10years like Tone or the rest has.
As for those who put Leeds down, so they lost to Wimbledon, so what ? One game lost is nothing compared with their victories achieved. Didn't Man utd lose to chelsea 5-0 ? Now does that mean anything ? NO, cause Man utd is 2nd and Chelsea despite having games in hand are mid table.
And what the hell is the problem with the Leeds - spartak match ?? According to a report I read Spartak didn't turn on the heating for the pitch to make it difficult for Leeds to practice on. Then when they did turn it on it was too late and the pitch was rather frozen hard and unplayable. So if you want to blame someone blame Spartak who gambled and lost.
Russian Rocket - You ask what if the Fa cup was moved to another venue, firstly it won't cause it's a wembley event. But no team would try to undermine their opponents by using(abusing) nature to their advantage. You guys really tried a subtle form of cheating.
Polish power - I remember that Chelsea match, tough one for Chelsea, especially with the ball not rolling due to the amount of snow. But as I've explained above, the match was called of due to the pitch being frozen solid, which in turn is dangerous cause your studs won't grip and injuries will be a mere formality.
ITALY82 - I'd still like to see your proof.
Archer 29-11-1999, 09:22:PM Hey Canoe, don't try to blame Spartak.
The heating worked for the whole week and after the match was switched to the neutral venue I started to hate Leeds. I don't even know what I hate more Man U or Leeds.
Anyway, Leeds shouldn't have done that. Now the players angry and will do all to kick Leeds out of the UEFA Cup. 2 years ago
a club named sion played with Spartak and they complained about the goal height and after half an hour of goal measuring they decided to play. The match finished 2-2 and 3-2 on agg. but sion complined to UEFA and wanted to disqualify Spartak. UEFA called a rematch and the result was 5-1. I hope to see this result again.
One more thing. Last year in the UEFA cup there was another incedent in goal measuring and despite complaints to UEFA the result stayed legal. How come that 2 years ago they called a rematch and now it seems that nothing is wrong?
Kewell the Jewell 30-11-1999, 07:37:AM This is a response to all those people who have complained about the Spartak match being cancelled......
the only reason that you are mad is because your team doesnt have a home game anymore!!!
I can understand this but i dont see why you have take your fustrations out on Leeds???
THERE WAS A FROZEN PITCH!!!!!
Leeds arrive there and they cant train because you Russians turn the underground heating off.....and then mysteriously comes back on as soon as Leeds leave......sounds a bit sus to me......
And does it matter to Leeds if Real Madrid have played in snow before or conditions similar to the ones here?? What does that have to with Leeds???? If Real wanted to go ahead with the game then so be it. But just because tehy playd doesnt mean the Leeds players have to go out there and injure themselves in ridiculous conditions.
To Russian Rocket who is complaining that Leeds are richer than Spartak and have cost them money. If English clubs are richer than Russian clubs than so be it!!! Do you want Leeds to just give their money to Russian clubs?? No, so stop complaining.
Leeds cannot control the conditions in Moscow!
And ultimately it was the referees decision that the match was cancelled, not Leeds.
And to Russian Rocket who said if the FA cup final was moved from Elland Rd (Leeds home) to Highbury agaisnt Man U.
Like it was said b4 the FA Cup is Wembely event and why would it be moved to Arsenal's home ground????
Man U arent even in the FA Cup this year.
And i hope all you Russians are watching when Leeds knock their second team out in consecutive rounds.
SymonX 02-12-1999, 09:10:PM 2 Kewell the Jewell:
Spartak M - Leeds 2:1... There you go... That's the first one... Let's see now how good Leeds is when it must win a game.... Bridges is injured, by the way.... so much for that one....
