I can't live without it!

I bought a 15gb iPod for 300 bucks and its the best money i've spent in a while. i use it for all kinds of things and not just mp3s. when i formatted my pc i just put all the stuff i needed on my iPod instead of burning it on cds. i put an article in notepad and transfered to my iPod and vola... i was reading an article on my iPod.

Anyone else have one?

I've been thinking of getting one, actually. That or I might add some more GB to my harddrive because I'm running out of space for my music.

I saw this thing were you could set you iPod onto this little docking station iPod accessory thing-a-ma-jiggar, and wah-lah, it's a mini stereo.

I want one really bad, but every penny I make at work has to go towards my school bills. :(

VB, is this what you're talking about?

I was first thinking of buying an iPod, could've gotten a 15gb version for something around 350€, but then I decided to invest a bit more and bought an iRiver iHP-120. I got it from mycom.se for 390€ and went to Stockholm to pick it up.

http://navcity.co.uk/catalog/images/iHP-120-4.jpg

I've been very pleased with this so far, just that my music-collection ain't so well organised so it's rather difficult to find a song amongst thousands of others.

I might buy a mini-ipod when they come out, does anyone know how much they cost?

About £170, according to those capitalist whores at Argos.

I'd recommend any product from iRiver, their SlimX CD players are superb, their flash-based MP3s are unmatched, and their harddrive-based jukeboxes are very, very good. (Y)

I-pods have shi't batteries, i personally wouldn't go for an I-pod at all. I'd rather an iRiver or one of the many by Creative.

(Y) yeah, iRiver sounds like just one of the korean manufacturers producing crap, but I have only good things to say about their products.

I wouldn't buy a Creative Zen Xtra. They might be rather cheap, but the dimensions of the player are the biggest in the market and the sound quality and loudness is poor compared to iPod and iRiver iHP-series.

The store I bought it at (Best Buy) will do it for free. They'll replace it with any iPod that's the price I bought it ($300 for 15GB, now the 20GB one is $300 so they'll give me that one).

The new iPod's batteries last twice as long as the old ones.

Yep, that's it.

Money is scarce for me, also. My paychecks go to bills or groceries, but that'll change in a month.

I got my tax back and am buying a laptop and Iriver iHP-140. Cannot wait for the Iriver, I'm busy organising my MP3 collection now, it's taking forever. Jason, did you put the files on using the database or file tree method? If it was the file tree method, does it read the ID3 tags or just the file name? Because I've spent forever renaming and putting my MP3s into files, and I don't wanna do my ID3 files too..:(

bjmenge
26-07-2004, 05:59:AM
If you get a program called ID3-TagIT, you can create ID3 tags from the file names automatically.

I've got a 10 gb one that is 3rd gen. I have a 2 year warranty, so hopefully somehow (maybe it will break.... by accident...) and I can get a new replacement, the one with 15 gb.!!

Creative's models (Zen for example) have the best sound quality, they have the most powerful headphone amps available. Fidelty is slightly better than the iRiver and ****s on the iPod.

In Finland, a highly respected computer magazine tested the players and the results stated that Creative wasn't close to iRiver nor iPod on the matter of sound quality and loudness.

Because I've spent forever renaming and putting my MP3s into files, and I don't wanna do my ID3 files too.. I haven't decided how to actually organise the songs yet. The database-thing doesn't really work so well for my purposes, so I just put the newest songs to a different folder and use the file-based thing.
If you have a big collection of records from different bands, I'd use the filename based thing, but if you have many single songs, I'd go for organising their ID3s and using the database-thingy. It might take some time though, but im thinking of doing it when I get the time. It's easy to do with winamp2, for an example.

I have a heap of albums sorted Artist/Album/00 - File Name, but one folder of loose files which is about 7 gig on its own. Could be interesting..;)

when the iPod's battery runs out it is irreplacable. that means you have to buy a new one. the battery only last 18 months too.

i believe u are wrong because once the battery finishes i THINK they give you a replacement for free (i believe the only problem is that its not easy to physically replace the battery)
that video/audio is VERY old, apple have reacted to it

Like a mobile phone having to plug it into the wall? Yup, only you'll have to buy an adapter that modifies the amount of volts (I think its 120 in the U.S., 220 in Europe). Just like with any other electric appliance.

Edit: I just use the plug-in to the firewire in my PC to charge my iPod. It just uses my PC's power to charge the iPod.

They don't give you a battery for free, no company like Apple would do that. They're almost as bad as MS. They charge $100 for the re-installantion of the battery. You could just go and get yourself a new iPod Mini with that money.

I bought a laptop solely for the purpose of playing CM and charging/re-arranging files on my MP3 player. Just won an auction and paid for an Iriver H140 off Ebay, so I'm stoked. Got it for about 100 bucks cheaper than I would have here in Australia, too.

I-Pod's are probably the best MP3 Players out there right now, but they're too damn expensive. I'm happy with my affordable Moveman Player.
