LONDON, July 31 (Reuters) - Newcastle United chairman Freddy Shepherd has confirmed that Bobby Robson will not be staying on as manager when his contract expires at the end of the season.
Asked if the 71-year-old might continue in his role as manager of the premier league club beyond next May, Shepherd told The Guardian newspaper: "No".
He said the club and Robson "would be in the Guinness Book of Records" if he were the manager at the age of 73.

In March, Newcastle decided to extend Robson's contract, which was due to finish at the end of last season, for another year to take him through to 2005.
The club, who beat Glasgow Rangers 4-2 in a friendly at St James' Park on Saturday, had a disappointing end to the season, missing out on a Champions League place after finishing fifth although they have qualified for the UEFA Cup.
Newcastle striker and former England captain Alan Shearer, who is due to hang up his boots at the end of the coming season, has been linked in media reports with the manager's job.
Shepherd said of the 33-year-old: "I think he would be a good manager. I hope so. I think he's got that determination.
"I imagine he'd transfer everything from the football field into management. I'm sure he would," the chairman added in the interview published in Saturday's Guardian.

I dunno about bringing in Shearer, he's quite old to play football, but to manage football he's relatively young. But he'd definitely give it his upmost attention, something Robson has been lacking in recent seasons.
