since this movie, or the characters, have such a huge following, I decided to start a thread for the movie instead of talkign about it in the all the other movie threads :p

anyway, it was supposedto start this friday, and I had tickets for an advance screening this thursday but today I read this...

Corona Coming Attractions at Cinescape have confirmed that the premiere for Alien Vs Predator (or AVP as all the hep cats are calling it) has been cancelled. It was supposed to happen tonight at Mann’s Chinese, but the screening has disappeared from all schedules. Lance Henriksen has confirmed to website IESB.net that the premiere is scuttled, supposedly because director Paul WS Anderson is working on his final edit right up until the last possible moment.

Here in New York, Fox had Sanaa Lathan show up for roundtables, but didn’t screen the film for the press. Instead they were shown a ten minute piece that seemed to be from the film’s EPK. Also, as of now, there is no all-media screening for the film, which will probably mean no reviews.

It’s not unusual for a studio to keep a stinker of a film away from the press so that the movie doesn’t open with bad reviews. It’s also not unusual for a movie to be worked on up until the last minute. It would be highly unusual for this movie to do what rumors are saying – move at the last minute until the end of August, especially considering the big advertising push it’s gotten in the last few weeks. But is it possible that the problem isn’t that the film isn’t finished, but rather that it’s just no good?

At this rate, no one will know until the film actually opens.

The first Predator movie with Arnold was great. Never watched Alien because that chick that plays in it scares me.

So will it open this friday or not? I was planning to go see it with a few friends? Which one is the Alien? I always thought Predator was the one that looked like a bug. :(

All I remember is that one Saturday afternoon I was real bored and Predator 2 was on the WB or UPN and I just recall one scene where the Predator throws like a saw blade through a bunch of cow carcasses in a meat warehouse and it cuts Danny Glover in half.

This movie wont be fantastic I don't believe, but hopefully it will be good.

Alien was great. Predator was great, hopefully if they are put together they will both be great, but I really just cannot see it happening to be honest.

When I first heard about the movie I was extremely excited, but after reading what it is about, I lost complete interest, especially because it is set in Antartica, in a pyramid...

I do hope that it will be good though, like the first of both movies... classics...

I must agree though, the first Predator is a classic ( with two governors in it, why not..:confused: ), and i love all the Alien movies (yes, even "Resurrection").

What i really hate about AVP, they decided to put in "Scientist", instead of Colonial Marines. What in the hell!?. Who was the genious that thought that one up. People will go to see this movie only for the action, and that's it. Replace the trapped "scientist" with Colonial Marines, add some nice big weapons, and you can count me in...otherwise....hmm i don't know...:rolleyes:

I loved 'Alien' & 'Aliens', and thought 'Predator' was a very cool movie, especially when it came out. I am obviously curious about this new AVP thing, but know in advance that they just want my dough...

Well that clearly shows this film is a money making gimmick for kids. 13 certificate WTF, both franchises were 18 certificates, unless there is blood and guts and people getting ripped apart it's not worth making. It's like taking away Superman's ability to fly. If this really is a PG13 then this film will slaughtered, then again the film makers don't care, this film is all about the dollar signs.

Mortal Kombat... Resident Evil....

Well definatly not the worst movies. Soldier was pretty bad, I liked Resident Evil though and Mortal Kombat was made for kids, when I was a kid, I loved it.

Games that turn to movies generally suck, but Mortal Kombat was just awesome, I don't know why.

Resident Evil blew goat cum, though. What a crap movie.

Yeh but it was stupid. Typical American scripting, biased or what. Ryu is supposed to of been the main character yet they make Guile and Cammy (both American characters) the main centre of attention. The reason why Mortal Kombat was so good is because it was exactly like the computer game. When film makers try and change things like they did with RE and Street Fighter, the film will flop, because the majority of people that will want to watch it will be fans of the games.

there's a "Making Of AVP" on FOX... tomorrow I think :confused:

And what about X-Men, people who are really into the comic books were really disappointed with the movies.... the first one was ok, but the second one really lacked in the 'VS' battles that feature in the comics, if you know what i mean.

But anyway, just having read that Aliens vs Predator is only going to be PG-13 is a REAL disappointment, considering how the Aliens and Predator films in the past were film with gore and ratings of at least MA-15+...

I'll definately see it being a fan of both Aliens and Predator movies but i dont think i'm going to build myself up in the hope that its going to be a good movie. But you never know... we'll have to wait and see.

I hated the first X-Men movie, probably due to the fact that it was nothing like the comics or cartoons.

X Men lacked a lot of characters and costumes and what not and were nothing like the comics at all, I liked the second one better than the first.

Alien vs Predator does have basically unknowns in it, it has one of the actors from Aliens in it... I am pretty sure.

Hopefully it will have a change of rating though, anything that is about aliens and is rated PG is just crap, it's like creating a horror movie and rating it PG, for example... HOUSE.... haha.

Xmen2 is my favorite comic book movie so far and is considered an example other filmmakers should use when making their comicbook movies (Y)

Im a huge Xmen fan but really the costumes didnt bother me. the perfections of Wolverine, Jean, Professor X, Magneto, Mystique and Nighcrawler was enough for me :bob:

I hope gambert (sp) is in the next one.

I'm really not into comic book movies but as far as they are concerned the best still are Tim Burton's Batman 1 & 2. The dark atmosphere is just unmatchable, it's just Tim Burton.

but Xmen 2 and Spiderman 2 were decent as well.



Mortal Kombat is good? I liked Mortal Kombat when I was 12 years old... I'm grown up now :p

Resident Evil is a bad movie IMO, if you like zombie movies go see 28 Days Later or Dawn of the Dead.

Superman 1 & 2 are my choice as the best comic book films ever made along with Batman 1 & 2.

Yes Batman was great! X-Men2 had a great storyline but not enough 1 on 1 battles between characters.

I havent seen any of the Superman ones in YEARS, and actually, its probably something i should jot down to hire out when i'm at the video store next :)

I advise you not to get it on video mate. Get it on DVD. For the DVD versions they re-done the music, updated the graphics and put in cool new scenes like Superman walking through fire and bullets. The video version is just too dated.

I just got back from AVP

the movie wasnt as bad as I expected. in fact the last 30 minutes were a lot of fun though there were some really stupid stuff too :p

I didnt really care for the whole first hour with the aliens and predators killing the humans as we didnt get to see any of the killings. only some blood and the screams :(


but all in all it was ok and the action and fun of the last part make the movie worth it :D

Ok, it's not the **** everybody is expecting. But still is not a good movie. It's just ok.

There's a lot of bad stuff in it, and I'll talk about it first cause I didn't dislike the movie so I'll finish with the stupid but fun stuff which is almost the entire ending.

The Bad:
- The leading girl is not likeable at all. I didn't hate her, but for being the lead in the movie they should've get someone better and write the character better.
- The supporting characters are worse. I remember loving (or at least getting to know) all the characters in the Alien and Predator movies. Here? There are around 15 characters and not counting the lead, the rich old guy (Lance Henriksen- 'Bishop' in Aliens) and the architect guy (who can read the hieroglyphics and it's the one from who we learn what the hell were doing the Aliens and Predators there), all of them suck. They are not part of the story at all. Also, half of them die halfway into the film when they stay in an upper level of the pyramid (yes, a pyramid in the Antarctic) surrounded by Alien's eggs and suddenly all the little Aliens start popping out and we see just a few getting killed and all the rest dies off camera.
- Besides all of those secondary characters dying off camera, there's the problem of the PG13 rating. Lots of the others deaths are not shown either. We just see the Aliens or the Predators attacking the humans and then some blood and the screams.
- In the final part of the movie, the girl gets some of the Alien's acid on her coat so she takes it off and stays with a long sleeved shirt... in the Antarctic... and she doesn't even shows signs of being cold.


The last 30 minutes of the movie are full of stupid stuff, but it's when it's also fun:

The Stupid & Fun:
- The final section starts with the girl saving the Predator's life a few times, and then giving him his weapon, to what the Predator responds by making her a SHIELD WITH THE ALIEN'S HEAD and a SPEAR WITH THE ALIEN'S TAIL!!!
- Of course, they became friends, so we see them walk around searching for Aliens for a while.
- The Slow Motion scene with the Predator and the girl running with the fire coming towards them in the background was incredibly stupid.
- Oh, and the girl actually OUTRUNS THE PREDATOR!!! ******* hilarious.
- The Alien Queen going full speed chasing the girl was weird. The Alien Queen's size changed a lot comparing it to other scenes plus it ran a lot like the T-Rex from JP.


The Cool:
- The first time the Predator kills Aliens is pretty good. Cutting their heads with his blades.
- The Alien Queen is pretty cool when she's in chains at first when she's introduced.
- The Predator Mothership is real Eye Candy too. Well done, though we don't see it in fight or anything like that.
- The whole ending has some good action scenes. Specially when the Predator makes a big jump from off screen and cuts the Alien Queen's face. That was the big cheer of the movie.


The Ending:
Alien's fans aren't probably going to be happy as the Predator pretty much kicks serious Alien ass all along the movie and ends up winning though he's also killed by the Alien Queen.
The movie ends with the General Predator (he had a red cape and everything) taking the dead Predator back to the MotherShip but before that, he accepts the girl (who was the only survivor) and gives her the dead Predator's spear.
Oh, and copying Freddy vs Jason, the last scene of the movie is an Alien popping out of the dead Predator's stomach letting everything prepared for AvP2 (PLEASE DON'T)

So all in all the movie is ok. It has lots of bad stuff but the last 30 minutes are fun and make the movie worth the money, IMO.

I guess the movie is not as dumb as I tought

yeah the plot is horrible. plus it has nothing of all the scifi stuff that the Alien movies had and the action is not even close to the predator movies (the first one at least).

oh, and I forgot to add, which is pretty stupid too, that the movie takes place in October 2004 :|

One thing I read on a review was the Paul Anderson made a ridiculous mistake and put in a line where someone says to the Alien: You're an ugly motherf*cker. That was originally said in the Predator movie.

MY cousins are watching it in Toronto(I am visiting) as we speak at an IMAX theatre....15 CDN...around 11 bucks US......ripoff from the sounds of it!

It sounds sh!t house compared to the other Alien and Predator movies.

But I will still see it because I am a d!ck.

Predator 1 was a classic and i enjoyed all of the Alien movies, but it seems this one is pretty bad. The PG13 rating is just a joke, if the plot sucks then give us some blood and slaughter to make up for it but then...

It seems like they wanted to attract everyone, including young ones to make more money.:kader:
