SuRFy 16-01-2005, 10:09:AM Isn't Malaga B in the Segunda ? panxoman 16-01-2005, 08:34:PM yep, Malaga is the only important team that has its second team in "segunda". Dream Team 16-01-2005, 09:00:PM Messi is doing really well with the U-20 Argentina NT. He has scored 3 goals in 2 games. He only played 19 minutes in the first game and the second half in the second one. Dream Team 17-01-2005, 12:31:AM All the posesion for nothing. Barça only advance when Iniesta has got the ball because Xavi is missing and Márquez makes long passes to nowhere. I hate the lack of personality of Xavi. Ronaldinho receives a foul everytime he has the ball. Sometimes he should pass the ball before. Let's hope the second half is better and Barça can break that defensive wall. Dream Team 17-01-2005, 01:17:AM Goal Eto'o Eto'o Eto'o Eto'o Eto'o Eto'o 1-0 At last 0le_Spain 17-01-2005, 01:17:AM GOOOOOLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL ETO'O Dream Team 17-01-2005, 01:38:AM FT 1-0 All the posesion for us, 75%, without many chances though. The other team always creates chances so easy.. very important Valdés today, he's improving the 1 on 1. We deserved to win IMO but once again it wasn't our best game. Eto'o played the first half on the left and in the second half he played better on the centre. Another golden goal. Go Zaragoza. :rockman: panxoman 17-01-2005, 01:50:AM we won, but we played bad. Now we're there. It's important to win even when we're not playing great. Vedran-10 17-01-2005, 03:53:AM 1-0 is a good result considering that we could have drawn. For me, MOM is Valdes. He saved our asses. We were lucky. I hope we improve our game because it wasn’t a flashy performance tonight. Good game by Ronaldinho, too. SuRFy 17-01-2005, 04:34:AM Just saw the highlights from TVE, a solid goal from eto'o, but Valdes made some great saves. :D Didn't surprise me seeing Mr Abramovich and Mourinho watching the game with thier notebooks. At least I hope they don't play like Real Sociedad. panxoman 18-01-2005, 03:33:AM I'm sure they will come here to defend the 0-0 waiting for the game in London. As any english team, they are much stronger at home than away. SuRFy 18-01-2005, 03:42:AM Yeah it'll be a tough one with Cech in goal and Robben on the wing. Chelski don't have much weaknesses either. Nuno 18-01-2005, 03:43:AM Chelsea is not your ordinary English team. panxoman 18-01-2005, 05:17:AM Albertini (33) could come on loan until June. :p Vedran-10 18-01-2005, 06:10:AM I'm not too convinced that Chelski will come to defend. With a team of their rating, and with Mourinho in charge, they wouldn't want to defend. Mourinho's too ambitious and too confident in his team to sit back in his box. I also think that there is little, if any, difference between a home and an away match for Chelsea. They seem strong everywhere, but of course, it'll be tougher in London. I'm just hoping that we don't lose the tie in the Nou Camp.Like the time when we lost to Madrid 0-2 at home.It was finished there and then.If we can get a good result at home (especially if we don't concede), I'm confident we'll go through. There will be a lot of pressure for the match in Barcelona. We'll play more relaxed at S.Bridge. Paulo Da Silva 18-01-2005, 09:07:AM personally , i feel Chelsea are the favs. Barca seem to be in a rough patch lately, just barely winning games. He's 33, he was born the same year than Guardiola  Barça has made the offer for Iaquinta and It's waiting for an answer today. Sad he plays for Barça, though:( The history behind that is curious. he was 13 and he was ill. The medical treatment he needed costed 900 dolars/month in Argentina. His club there (don't remember the name now) didn't want to pay it. his father knew that the treatment was also done in Barcelona. He contacted Barça, and the club accepted to pay the treatment in Barcelona, and that's how he came here. I read it a couple days ago, but I've serached for the link to the news and I haven't found it ... :( Dream Team 18-01-2005, 06:25:PM Messi started the third game.. and he scored again :) 3 matches, 4 goals. 17 years old, future looks bright IMO Albertini is a good option until June. That's good, it gives diferent options for a match. We're missing this since Larsson got injured. Yossarian 22-01-2005, 06:03:AM Are you guys able to recall Saviola? Or why not just sign Kobe Bryant instead if Saviola is contracted to Monaco until the end of the season. panxoman 22-01-2005, 06:13:AM yes, saviola is on loan and could be back at the end of the season ... but that won't happen. Vedran-10 22-01-2005, 06:50:AM If Rijkaard doesn't plan to include Saviola in the team when he returns from his loan, then we should sell him because we could get a decent amount for him. Anyways Rijkaard prefers his old teamate Albertini over Mascherano. http://tribalfootball.com/january/spanishnews2210105.html Who'd would you guys prefer barca signing, Alber or Masch ? Paulo Da Silva 22-01-2005, 07:36:AM Mascherano by far, but u have too see the signing of albertini is short term basis only. Motta and Edmilson will be back and then there will be a prob for the DM Position. Dream Team 22-01-2005, 08:18:AM We need a patch for 6 months and for that Albertini is better. SA players, usually, need some time to adapt to our style, I agree with Rijkaard. However, that wouldn't be a problem for Maxi López, because all the pressure is for Eto'o and Maxi wouldn't need to be a top scorer. Besides a forward can adapt his style faster. Since Udinese want to much money for Iaquinta, Maxi López looks like a good option, he's also younger. At the moment we know that Rijkaard doesn't want Saviola only for the press, but since they're looking for a forward who would come signed for many years, I don't know if this is a confirmation and the door is definitely closed for Saviola. shokz 22-01-2005, 08:20:AM Admit it, you all want Forlan. (H) :((Y) SuRFy 22-01-2005, 08:48:AM Yeah I don't think we will see Saviola wear a barca shirt again. Roman is also in this mess, but it is not sure he will do anything. A society controled by him made an offer for mascherano, Maxi and another player from river. Now it's up to River. In Portugal it was the same, he was booked alot of times. I think in Portugal most of his yellow cards were mostly due to protests (temper, temper) and some harsh tackles. In Barcelona i think the fact that he plays in a more defensive role in crucial zones (preventing counter attacks or dangerous offensive plays) explains the fact why he is getting even more yellow cards. Anyways im pleased to see that you guys are satisfied with his performances. I remember in the beginning of the season that there were alot of doubters. I guess we weren´t wrong when we said that he was really a world class player and that he would fit in nicely in Barcelona. Best of luck to him and Barcelona. Maxi is clearly keen to make a hit at he club and in this interview he talks about his versatility and settling in with his new teammates and surroundings. You had other offers to play in Europe, what made you plump for Barca? "I chose a city which is very similar to Buenos Aires. It's very pretty. Also this club is one of the most important in the world, that really attracted me." How would you describe yourself as a player? People have compared you to Batistuta and Hernán Crespo. "I'd say I was a forward with a lot of strength, good ball control and pace." You can also play wide can't you? "Yes, on either wing or straight down the centre." So do you think that your style of play will fit in with Eto'o? "Well, I can play as a typical centre forward, in the box, on the edge, on my own upfront or with another striker" Saviola was the last player to join the club from River. How would you compare yourself to him? "He's smaller than me, but we both have good control and an ability to make sacrifices for the team." Have you spoken with people at River about Barca? "Yes, there are people who've been sending me good wishes and that's helped steady my nerves. I also spoke to Javier (Saviola) and he's told me the best thing is the way the people here treat you." Have you followed the Spanish League this season. Do you think Barca could win it? "Ive watched it very carefully. Barca are heads and shoulders above the rest. The win over Madrid was great." Do you think your age will be a handicap for you as try to adapt to the game here, or will it help? "I think it's a point in my favour, because I've still got a lot to learn and plenty of experience to pick up. That'll help me and I'm determined to make the most of this chance I've been given." Do you think you'll find it easy to settle in? "I want to try and adapt as quickly as possible. I'll need my teammates' help but I've got plenty of good references about the city and the people here. I think that'll help me to settle in at the club." Do you think that this was the best time for you to leave the Argentine game? "It's an important moment in my career Ive grown a lot and having the chance to join a great club like this is a dream for me." Will you be available for the Seville game? "Once I've signed officially, I'll be available for the club and for whatever the boss needs me for.. I've done a good pre-season in Argentina and I'm fit and ready to play." Have you ever been to Barcelona before? Have you played at the Nou Camp? "No never, but I do have family in Catalonia. They've really made me excited about coming here and I'm sure they'll help me settle in." Why do they call you 'The German'? "I picked up the nickname after an Argentinean TV programme gave it me, because of my blue eyes, my build and my fair hair. They call me the 'German Tank'." =========================== Seems like a top bloke, THE GERMAN TANK. :) ronnifan9 29-01-2005, 08:43:AM He's a wannabe Guti(H) Atlas 29-01-2005, 08:50:AM waht name does he has on his back Maxi or Lopez? I agree the first goal is the most important one in a match, and Belletti touched the ball with his had, so it's pk. With 1-0 you never know what would have happened. I couldn't watch the game so I can not say anyting about the other one (I have only read about 2 possible pk, not 3). I have just seen a quick highlights now in luchtime news. As I said last week when the reff helped Madrid against Zaragoza, I think this season the mistakes are balanced. And talking about the match itself, it's a very surprising score. I had a party yesterday night and a friend was phoned everytime a goal was scored. We even thought it was a joke. Sevilla is a very strong team and hadn't lost any game at home. Anyway, Madrid press was already talking as if they were in the top of the table this week, with no respect at all for Barça. Like if we weren't playing ... I guess they will have to inevent something new this week. Maybe they will insist that Florentino should buy Ronaldinho and that it would be easy to do it ... americangreg 30-01-2005, 09:04:PM I'm just saying is very hypocrite of the barca fans.. when they never miss a chance to remind madrid fans about the help they get... and a pk called when the game was 0-0 has a good chance of changing the outcome. Last year we did blame the referees for helping madrid. And it's true that we've been fortunate with some calls this season. But we're not complaining about how the referees call some plays in favor of madrid. That was last season. Now it appears the refs are helping us. I say: Ok, finally justice. But what makes me pissed off is that Madrid fans are pissed off that WE get the refs on our hand right now. The madrid fans just turned the situation. It's not us being hypocrite, it's them. They got favoured a lot of times last season and they didn't say anything. Now WE get favoured and suddenly all madrid fans point their fingers out at the referees. Anyway, the results won't change and there's nothing you can do. Honestly, I think they should introduce video-refereeing into football. But I guess 'americanizing' the sport won't happen in the near future keeping in mind that everyone here in Europe has been so anti-america lately... It's a shame... I know, I just mean that Barça made their job. Barça had a similar game against Villarreal. We lost 3-0, Villarreal's first goal was offside and the ref didn't see a penalty of Reyna. Who can guarantee that that goal and the penalty wouldn't have changed the game?. I think Barça lost because we couldn't score in 90 minutes though. I understand the complaints but I don't think Barça won thanks to the ref. The result was 0-4, although was unfair because Barça was better but not that much. A 0-4 doesn't leave many doubts. As for Albertini, he came in after the break (subbed Belletti thank God) and did well. But it was crucial to take out Belletti. I don't know what happened to him last night. These are the best statistics for 15 seasons: 2003-04: 31 points (14 at home and 17 away) 2002-03: 24 points (16 at home and 8 away) 2001-02: 33 points (21 at home and 12 away) 2000-01: 40 points (25 at home and 15 away) 1999-00: 37 points (25 at home and 12 away) 1998-99: 40 points (23 at home and 17 away) 1997-98: 41 points (24 at home and 17 away) 1996-97: 46 points (26 at home and 20 away) 1995-96: 39 points (27 at home and 12 away) 1994-95: 38 points (26 at home and 12 away) 1993-94: 40 points (25 at home and 15 away) 1992-93: 40 points (23 at home and 17 away) 1991-92: 43 points (30 at home and 13 away) 1990-91: 49 points (31 at home and 18 away) 1989-90: 43 points (30 at home and 13 away) The current side also have a better record than when Barça won the league championship in 1973-74 and 1984-85. 1973-74: 48 points (29 at home and 18 away) 1984-85: 44 points (29 at home and 15 away) It is also necessary to remember that before the 1995-96 season a win was worth two points and from then on was worth three. The best victory in Sevilla The 4-0 victory in the Sánchez Pizjuán on Saturday was Barcelona's highest ever win over Sevilla away from home as they went one better than the 3-0 triumph in 1959-60 when Helenio Herrera was the Blaugrana coach and Luis Suárez was in the team. Sevilla were the only other team apart from Barça to be unbeaten at home this season with their last defeat on their own ground coming back in May of last year. Rijkaard also recorded his biggest away win in the league since taking charge, although his side did manage to beat Ciudad de Murcia 4-0 in the Copa del Rey last term. The last time that Barça won 4-0 away in the league was against Mallorca on December 21, 2002. More good news from the game was Ludovic Guily 's goal. The French midfielder's last goal came back on September 11 when he netted in Camp Nou against Sevilla. ========================================= Albertini second 4-0 debut Demetrio Albertini made his debut for AC Milan at the age of 17 when he entered the fray on January 15, 1989 as his team beat Como 4-0. Some 16 years and two weeks later, Deme made his Barça debut and the result was the same, although this time it was away from home. ========================================== Glory, Glory, Glory. That would mean Marquez to DC and Oleguer resting.... maybe Rijkaard won't many any changes at the start of the game and new players will enter the pitch along the game. Great game next sunday against Athletico. By the way it seems, according to press, that Torres is the big target for next season. The tribute to the Dutch international midfielder, who currently plays for PSV Eindhoven, is the latest in a series of public acts of recognition carried out by the Club as a mark of gratitude to the players who left FC Barcelona at the end of last season. Edgar Davids and Marc Overmars both received a commemorative plaque at the 39th Joan Gamper summer tournament. Record holder Cocu signed for Barca in the 1998-99 season and went on to play 292 official matches in all competitions, scoring 38 goals. He won a league medal in his first season. Mexico want Marquez -- a midfielder for his club and a central defender for his country -- to join their training camp on Friday or Saturday at the latest. But they say Barcelona want him to play at the weekend and only travel on Monday. "It is a lack of respect, not to me personally, but to what we represent at this moment and to what we are playing for," said national team director Guillermo Cantu in a statement on the Mexican federation's official website. "This is the final round and we need to be at our strongest. A player of this stature is important for us." A statement on the Barca website said: "...the club has authorised the player to travel to Costa Rica 48 hours before the match. As a result Marquez will be able to play in Sunday's match against Atletico Madrid at the Nou Camp. And Marquez told a news conference: "The usual thing would be for me to play on Sunday, there is enough time." Wednesday's match in San Jose is one of three that kick off the six-team final stage of the CONCACAF World Cup qualifiers. In other games, the United States visit Trinidad & Tobago while Panama host Guatemala. The matches are being played on a date FIFA has reserved for friendly internationals, when clubs only have to release their players 48 hours in advance rather than the five days required for competitive matches. The length of the CONCACAF tournament -- in which teams could play up to 20 qualifying matches -- has forced organisers to schedule some fixtures on friendly dates. "This isn't a friendly and we didn't draw up the fixture list," said Cantu. "We're playing for a place at the World Cup and these are ten matches in which we need to have all our big guns ready." South America's qualifiers ran into similar problems last year when two rounds of fixtures were played on friendly dates. Spanish league leaders Barcelona have suffered a string of serious injuries to key players and midfielders Edmilson and Thiago Motta are out for the season after knee surgery. They did, however, recruit the experienced Italian midfielder Demetrio Albertini in the January transfer window to provide extra cover. what pisses me off about this is ... "The matches are being played on a date FIFA has reserved for friendly internationals, when clubs only have to release their players 48 hours in advance rather than the five days required for competitive matches." So just cuz its CONCACAF WC qualifying its not "competitive"? Another brilliant move by FIFA. Athetico just came to defend the 0-0. They found goal in the fisrt minute in a strange play well finished by Torres. After that they just kick any leg on the picth in the fist half and kicked the ball away when there was a fault ... miserable football of a little team. We didn't know how to attack a 10-11 men defence, attacking all the time by the center, no wings. This is a problem that we have already had. By the way, Perea (DC) man of the match. But it doesn't matter, it wasn't a penalty and we didn't deserve to equalise like that. Though it worries me that we miss penalties like this. In the end, Atletico deserved this. They played a very smart match, shut down Ronaldinho and disabled us to do anything. Torres is the MOM. Awesome performance. Nice goal at the start and a very well staged pk. Congrats. I don't blame him for diving. We got an unfair pen. It was only fair that they got one, too. I don't know what happened to Marquez. Oleguer was sh*t too. Bravo, Torres. I disagree. I think At.M. played the perfect defense. Look what they did to Ronaldinho. He was always covered by at least 2 players, and they rarely really fouled him, it was mostly fair and clean tackles reffed in our favour because it's Barcelona and because it's Ronaldinho. panxoman 07-02-2005, 04:40:AM nah , they have play every little trick that they could. every time there was a fault they kicked the ball away.
