Futbol Club Barcelona

CAMP NOU

http://www.soccergaming.tv/attachment.php?s=&postid=1439686

More than a club

Futbol Club Barcelona was founded on 29th November 1899 on the initiative of a Swiss enthusiast called Hans Maximilian Gamper, popularly known by the name of Joan Gamper. He, together with eleven collaborators, created a Club that has become the reflection of the civic conscience of a country characterized by integration and solidarity: Catalonia.

Over the more than 104 years of its history, Barca has become a unique social phenomenon that goes beyond the strictly sporting arena. The Club has grown together with its city, Barcelona, and has gradually become the representative of our country around the world. Through football, the Catalan people found a way of expressing their identity during many years of political repression.

At present, Barca has more members than any other football club in the world, almost 120,000, and can boast one of the most impressive sporting histories. The long list of great victories and legendary footballers that have worn the Barca colours, such as Samitier, Alcántara, Kubala, Suárez, Cruyff, Maradona, Romário, Ronaldo and Ronaldinho shape the reality of Barca.

Barca belongs to its 120,000 members. Every four years, they choose the president and the Board of Directors who manage the Club. They have the right to speak and to vote. This is a fundamental characteristic in understanding the democratic and participative nature of the Club.

In addition, FC Barcelona is the most important multi-sport Club in the world. It has more than 2,000 sportspeople, divided among more than one hundred teams which compete in thirteen different sports: basketball, handball, roller hockey, women's football, indoor football, cycling, athletics, field hockey, ice hockey, rugby, baseball, volleyball and figure skating. No other club competes in so many disciplines, and in four sports it competes at the highest international level (football, basketball, handball and roller hockey) and has achieved the top European honours.

A singular fact that helps to explain the Club's greatness is the number of fans it has around the world, organized into official fan clubs. At present, there are more than 1,500 of these fan clubs spread among the five continents and sharing a common goal and passion for Barca.

Liverpool are believed to have agreed a deal to sign Barcelona winger Luis Garcia, according to reports emanating from Spain.

Spanish radio claims Barcelona have agreed to the sale of the Spanish international after signing Samuel Eto'o from Real Mallorca.

Liverpool were initially thought to be keen on taking Garcia on loan for the whole of next season, but reports claim they have agreed a €9 million (£6 million) deal for the wide man.

Garcia's first team chances seem limited for the new season as Barca have been busy in the transfer market bringing in the likes of Deco and Ludovic Giuly at Camp Nou.

The 26-year-old did not train with Barcelona on Thursday and it is believed that the move could be announced as soon as Friday.

Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez is a big fan of the midfielder and is keen to bolster his options having lost Vladimir Smicer to injury and Danny Murphy to Charlton.

Garcia, who is predominantly a left-sided midfielder, can play in a variety of positions and would add options to Benitez's team.

Benitez tried to sign Garcia when he was in charge of Valencia, but it appears he has finally got his man and he will become his second signing from Spain following the capture of Josemi from Malaga.

It would be a surprise if L Garcia leaves, and it's not a good surprise at all.. I hope it's not true.

I really hope we don't sell him. He played well at the end of last season and so far this pre-season he's been class but i guess we have to take some € in return.

Also looks like Saviola will be loaned to Mónaco

I guess if L. Garcia leaves then Saviola would stay, and if Saviola leaves then L. Garcia would stay. Eto'o can play on the right. I've not found anything about L. Garcia leaving in the most popular newspapers though.

About L. Garcia, I've heard his release clause is €9m and Liverpool would pay it..

Txiki says Liverpool wants to pay L. Garcia's clause (9 mil), but the player told him that he'd rather stay (in the right conditions). Txiki wants to find out what the contract offer would be to see if Barça can work something out to keep him.

zlojack

Barca now have all of the pieces in place....the next trick is to make this great team on paper into a great team on the field.....
That is not as easy....I think Rijkgaard is a good DT who has the ability to do this....he seems to have the players on his side....let's see what happens with the squad.....I hope they continue with no ego problems....

Anyone heard anything about Saviola? Is he going to Monaco?
I think he should stay....3 strikers should be an easy rotation and you can cover injuries....bad days etc....I don't think that Saviola is that expendable.....

dannyeli
13-08-2004, 06:02:AM
i think you guys lack ONE more defender... cause Marquez maybe on his way out if Sylvinho or Edmilson don't get their UE passports, and only Oleguer and Puyol as CB is not too much depth IMO

Edmilson doesn't have it yet, but supposedly he will get it before the season starts

Vedran-10
14-08-2004, 12:45:AM
Both Edmilson and Sylvinho will have it ,if Sylvinho doesn't even have it already.

Eto'o is better and younger.I'd prefer him over ANYONE at the mo.

Eto'o cannot play lone center forward.... I would put both larsson and eto'o together
deco, xabi, edmilson (if he gets passport) and ronaldinho in midfield.. and the same back 4

Hey can't Rickaard play both???

zlojack
14-08-2004, 12:51:AM
He seems to like to play with one striker supported by playmakers....

I think we will see pretty much the same alignment as in the warmup games......

Belleti.....Emilson........Puyol........Van Bronckhorst

.......................Marquez.................... ..................

................Deco...................Xavi....... ...................

.......Giuly...................................... .Ronaldinho......

.......................Eto'o...................... ...........

Then depending on the fitness and form, as well as the situation, use Larsson or even Saviola (if he stays) as all three strikers have a different game, same thing with Luis Garcia spelling Ronnie and Giuly, then Motta spelling Xavi......

Vedran-10
14-08-2004, 12:52:AM
We can't play 2 forwards. It's too much and Giuly ,as will Dinho and Deco ,will play for sure so in that case Xavi would be benched but I wouldn't like that.

The def. is good.Edmilson would be a holding DM ,Xavi would help him and start attacks with Deco.Ronaldinho's magic would win games + Giuly's speed and striker abilities to support Eto'o + eto'o up front = no need for striker no.2.

zlojack
14-08-2004, 12:54:AM
I think that Rafa would be better in the holding role no? He plays there on the Mexican NT and he played there in Monaco....that's why they call him El Kaiser de Michoacan.....that's where Beckenbauer excelled.....

yeah.....but I wouldn't.....I think Deco can help in defense....
But I still think he should play Marquez in front of the back 4.....I guess we'll see once the whole squad is together and playing how he will work things out.....
At least we don't have to worry about our forwards missing 5000000 chances a game like certain Dutchmen who now play for Newcastle....:f***:

btw those rumors of Saviola going to Atletico for a first option on Torres is BS. Atletico owns Milan almost 23 M, and there have been already talks about Torres going to Milan, for next year... the price, the 23 M that atletico owns to them, plus something like 5 m. So Milan would only pay 5 m, that's why i think that rumor is crap.

Saviola needs to swear an oath the Spanish Constitution to receive the Spanish passport and it seems he won't return until La Liga has started because Argentina will go far in the Olympics. Barça would have to inscribe him as a non-EU. Anyway maybe it's the best for him because this season will be hard to get a spot in the starting line-up with Larsson and Eto'o.

Barca To Offload Saviola, Recber and Lopez

Barcelona officials have reportedly told forward Javier Saviola, goalkeeper Rustu Recber and midfielder Oscar Lopez to start looking for new clubs.
Saviola’s exit was all but confirmed when the club snapped up Cameroon international Samuel Eto’o from Mallorca.

With Eto’o, Deco, Larsson and Giuly all added in the offseason, manager Frank Rijkaard deemed Saviola surplus.

Reports are already swirling that Saviola could be joining Champions League finalists Monaco on loan for one season.

However, Monaco do not have the cash to purchase Saviola on a transfer and if another club emerges with an offer, look for Barca to give transfer offers first priority.

As for Rustu Recber, the Turkish international has been unhappy with life at the club ever since he lost the starters' role last season. Once considered among the best shot-stoppers in Europe, Rustu’s stock has decreased dramatically since he joined the Spanish giants.

Lopez, whose contract with Barcelona runs until 2007, has also been told to pack his bags as he is not in the clubs plans for the upcoming season.

Puyol
Marquez
Edmilson
Oleguer
Gabri

Where Gabri is more of a DM.......and Rijkgaard has been using Edmilson as a DM as well......so
Puyol or Oleguer get hurt, a suspension and then all of a sudden we have a problem

Lazio move in on Marquez

The Biancocelesti continue to restructure their squad and, with help from Milan, have reportedly agreed a deal with Barcelona defender Rafael Marquez.

The 25-year-old shot to fame during the 2002 World Cup, when his Mexico held Italy to a 1-1 draw.

He has already been linked with a host of top Serie A sides, above all Juventus, Milan and Roma, but opted to sign for Barca instead.

The former Monaco man has struggled to find first team football at the Nou Camp and would be available for an affordable fee.

However, it is reported that the move to the Peninsula is being orchestrated by Scudetto holders Milan.

They would buy up his contract and continue to pay a portion of his wages while Marquez becomes accustomed to Serie A football during a loan spell at Lazio.

If he's better on the right this could mean that Oddo will leave. If he plays on the left Cesar will go.

I don't even know what for.. they don't even have a chance of playing for the first team. for example Arteta, he was supposed to be in Athletic's youth system, but Barca offered his dad a job and free house in Barcelona so that he would move the kid there, and that way he would become a Barcelona player.. this year they also did the same thing with 2 16 yr olds..

normally when people don't know what they are talking about.. is better to not say anything. So keep your ignorant trap shut when it comes to Athletic.

yes cause I am sure someone from Canada and Mexico has a lot of ties to Barcelona..

and my club is a big club, thefore they don't go behind a club to sign a player they ask permission first. And obviously we have a good youth system since we haven't had the need to buy any players and still qualified for the UEFA cup.

Ok....look Valioso....whether or not you think I'm a glory hunter has nothing to do with it......I respect you for defending your club, whatever your reasons are for supporting it and congratulations for the UEFA cup. I support Barca for my own reasons, which is because in Canada the big teams are the ones you get to see on TV and since I became interested in football they were the team which I always liked becaue they most reminded me of my Toronto Maple Leafs, second to the other big Canadian team in championships, cups etc. Over the years I have become a more and more passionate fan of this great game, and I am a fan of only one team.....Barcelona. Look at my sig....the Toronto Maple Leafs hockey team hasn't won a title since 1967 and I still bleed blue and white. Glory hunter, I think not? I realize what the reality of the football world is, and it is a very cutthroat business. If your club had an opportunity to sign an excellent youth player from another club, you are saying they would not do so? I have some doubts about that. Nonetheless, I was not insulting you, I was disagreeing with you. It was completely uneccessary for you to insult me.

fair enough.

and no, they wouldnt sign a player without asking the club that owns the rights permission to talk to the player first. Not to mention, we only play with basque players so our market is limited. There was at the time a no aggression pact between Barcelona and Athletic, Barcelona chose to ignore it, and went behind Athletic to get those two players.

for example Arteta, he was supposed to be in Athletic's youth system, but Barca offered his dad a job and free house in Barcelona so that he would move the kid there, and that way he would become a Barcelona player.. this year they also did the same thing with 2 16 yr olds..

i understand your frustration but its ultimately the player's and their parent's decision to leave. We just lost two great players to the Premiership in Cesc and Pique. Its just the way that system works right now. I agree it doesn't seem right but most if not all big clubs do it.

They are not amateur signings, they are players that have spent all their lifes in the youth system for the club, and they are given a chance cause they earnt it. Is quite different, as to not making any signings cause there is no money. Is a choice, that we have mantained for 100 yrs. And Valverde is quite happy about it.

True ,Athletic is big ,but Barcelona is bigger. So when a youngster has a chance to leave Bilbao and come to Barcelona ,he takes it.
Don't blame Barca for youngsters choosing to leave your club.

Luis García moves to Liverpool

FC Barcelona and Liverpool FC have arrived at an agreement which sees the winger Luis García transferred to the Merseyside club.

Liverpool will pay nine million euros for Luis García whilst Barca also retain the right of first refusal if the player decides to move back to the Spanish League.

With this transfer, Luis García, 26, returns to work under Rafa Benitez, who managed him as a youngster at Tenerife.

On the move

The local boy worked his way up FC Barcelona's youth system. Then, after two seasons playing in Barca B (1997-98 and 1998-99), he moved to Valladolid. He was immediately loaned to Toledo for the 1999-2000 season and then another loan deal took him to Tenerife in 2000-01. This last move brought him under Rafa Benitez's orders and he shone scoring 16 goals as Tenerife gained promotion to the Primera Division.

The following year he returned to Valladolid, then in the top flight, where he played 27 games, scoring 8 times. In the summer of 2002, FC Barcelona recalled Luis García before selling him to Atletico Madrid, albeit with the option to buy him back. In the Madrid side, he played 25 matches, 22 of which he started, and scored 6 goals.

Good return for Barça

After another good year, FC Barcelona decided to buy back the rising star for the 2003-04 season. He was one of Frank Rijkaard's first choices last year playing 24 league games, 6 UEFA games and 6 King's Cup games. He scored 8 goals.

Leading scorer of the pre-season

Although not a centre-forward, Luis García has always got plenty of goals. This pre-season, before tonight's Catalan Cup game, he is the leading scorer with an excellent 7 goals.

We must win tommorow (today ,technically). We had a great second half of last season and this season we will achieve more. With all these great additions ,quality and depth ,we should have a big season and it would be healthy to start the serious competition with a trophy.

I have my reserves if he's going to be successful in Barça... Not because he isn't a great player (he is), but because the last portuguese players before him to play in Barça didn't stay there too long... Simão (thank God he signed with Benfica!!! :D) and Quaresma... They all were number 20, like Deco...
I honestly hope that he shows all his magic and quality, he's a great player, and portuguese ;)

I dont think he is better. They are completely different players. I´ll be supporting Deco also. Not that i think he has anything to prove, after winning the Superliga MoM multiple times, Champions League and Uefa Cup. Im confident that if Deco performes well in a championship like La liga, ppl will eventually lose their doubts. Besides his experience, i think that leaving for Barça with that age will be a very important factor. Simão and Quaresma were too young when they joined Barcelona (19 i think). Let´s wait and see anyways.

¡Ronaldinho, lesionado!

Panxoman, did you watch the documentary on TV3 or C+ about Laporta and his board of management? all what happened after each game, their decisions, how they work, some contract negotiations, all the planning and the changes in their first year.

It was very good, they are a great group.

I saw the add, and it looked very nice, too bad i dont ownz C+ :/
