yeah I also think Liverpool will win, or else it will be a draw - also another strong possibility; Tottenham won't win though.

Both defences have done extremely well. Cisse's goal was a great striker's goal.

Amika

I don't know who I want to win... a draw is not satisfactory, they must both lose somehow. :f*ck:

And why'd Benitez sub off Cisse?

Lean
14-08-2004, 08:23:PM
Who Rafa brought up? Sinama?

Bummy_JaB
14-08-2004, 08:25:PM
Benitez WTF is he doin????? OMG how can he take out Cisse who scored the first goal and was playing pretty well?????and only like 10 min in to the 2nd half.

Tactical change and only 1-0 up???????? This guy must be on crack.

Spurs4Life
14-08-2004, 08:26:PM
Spurs have dominated the last 10 minutes of play since the goal, we look more likely to score.

How has Pedro Mendes been doing?

Bummy_JaB

Mendes did ok. He didnt suck but he wasnt special. Id give him a 6.3

Fernandez

Quite a good debut. Good signing for Spurs.

Bummy_JaB
14-08-2004, 08:38:PM
Yea this is good for Spurs who look better than last year. I thought edman was great. And of course Defoe is a monster. How did this guy not make it into Euro???????

Lean

Who was brought up to Cissé's place?

Atlas
14-08-2004, 08:40:PM
is Kanoute playing?

he and Defoe use to play together
didn't they in West Ham or West Brom?

I always confuse this two teams

Spurs4Life
14-08-2004, 08:41:PM
Mendes was very solid, I'm excited by that signing:hump: Spurs showed great character to come back (something we lacked last season), hopefully we can go on from here and get some decent results. 1-1 was a vert fair result.

Sinama.

mufc_daddy
14-08-2004, 08:41:PM
He brought on Cinnamon Mongole.

He played a 5 man midfield.

Was an interesting "Ranieri style" switch which backfired.

Rednapp needs fitness badly.

Overall a good start for England's Premier League. :rockman:

Atlas

nevermind they tie.

Did Liverpool play good?
or did Tottenham diserved more?

Bummy_JaB

Pongelle came in for Cisse but he didnt do anything.

And yes Kanoute played the entire 90 min up front with Defoe.

Amika
14-08-2004, 08:42:PM
now i'm really pissed... the old liverpool is written all over the place in the 2nd half... take a 1st half lead and what they do? they forking sit back and defence the single goal throughout the 2nd half!!!!! then take off the two strikers????? :kader: :f***:

i even see finnan playing in the box right at the end!!!!

acmilan101

Final: 1-1

I had a feeling it would be a draw.

Why were they fans jeering Kewell whenever he got the ball?

Lean

Screw the book a player for taking off jerseys rule. It's crazy.

Bummy_JaB
14-08-2004, 08:44:PM
I think Benitez is to blame. He took out Cisse out WAY to early and it backfired on him. Spurs grew in confidence after the goal. And after it was 1-1 it looked like it would end that way.

Cisse looked confused when he was substituted and I dont blame him. One goal is never enough away from home and in my opinion the one thing you don't do is take off your main goal threat. Very strange substitution.

Glad to see Mendes started off well.

He's not a flashy player, he's an all round midfielder with great fighting spirit and usually very consistent.

Both my fantasy team strikers scored in this game :mrpimp:

not to worrie its only the first game
and it was an away game.

so its no so bad as a result
reading that spurs play much better
than pool.

surprisingly.. both of our strikers look out of sort throughout the match.. baros was really disappointing... and playing him as a lone striker after cisse subtitude didn't help the cause as well... :kader:

That attitude won't get us anywhere. Anything less than a win against any team (excluding Arsenal, maybe) is disappointing. Yeah, there's better teams than us in this league, but we can't be sattisfied with draws, especially with teams like Spurs.

John_Arne_Riise
14-08-2004, 08:54:PM
Well i only seen the 2nd half and i wasn't really impressed with the performance and judging only by the 2nd half it would probably be fair to say we deserved a draw ?

Fernandez
14-08-2004, 08:56:PM
It's been a fair draw, with it's own share of controversies.

Lean
14-08-2004, 08:56:PM
We shouldnt be pleased with a draw against Spurs, but come on people. It's not like Benitez has arrived and we're going to win the title, the man needs time. He kinda screwed up today but well, people do mistakes.

Lets wait a little longer before we start the criticizing.

VanTheMan

saw the match.

pool played very nice in the first half
cisse looks class.
but then benitez blew it up by subbing him for .........................................Sinbad Sinama?
Sinama had a **** game.
very bad decision by such a class manager.

Defoe looks very hot for the future!!
why the f*** was he carded even if he had worn a vest inside?
F***ing rule!!!!!!!

on the whole a very fair result for both.

how many of u think Gerrard should have been given a pen in the first half?

Gerard definitely deserved a penalty.

once again.. why was Kewell constantly being booed?

Shirt tugging.

It's definitely a penalty! Both commentators were very surprised with the decision. We should have had that pen.

Fair with a draw, was hoping to see Liverpool with a bit more sting, but it's the first game of the season so......!
Riise shoud played a bit more offensive, going a litle more forward,he is great when he drive forward, but not today!

just wonder why referees dont like to give penalty when there is a slight foul in the box. a foul is a foul. a pen should've been given.

How are people expecting Baros to duplicate his great performance at the Euros when the service and class in the midfield at Liverpool isn't even 1/10 the quality of the Czech team? Cisse too. They should've atleast purchased Kapo or Kalou who were very instrumental for half of Cisse's successes at Auxerre. Kewell made a couple of decent runs but was very sluggish and sloppy for the better part of the game.

- Defoe's goal....... .:rockman:

- Gerard's dive...errr flop........the idiot could've stayed up and continued on with his run since the ball didn't scuttle away from 'em, but he got his shirt tugged by one of the weakest individuals on the pitch and decided to claim a penalty instead.......flopping pussy!

- Kanoute....very productive and a beast in the air. He took on defenders and did some flashy moves out there too, man.

- the coaches??? They both sucked

yeah, he's a good player and well suited to the EPL style I think. No step-overs, flashy boots, or fancy hair-cuts....he's just a solid, hard-working midfielder. Hope he does well at Spurs! :)

Also, Atouba looks to be a very good player too! He was very close to signing with Benfica last season, after watching him yesterday I really wish he had signed for us back then! (Y) :(

:kader:

He lost his balance and fell on his knees. No theatrical falls, rolling over, crying.

What about when he got tackled from behind by Redknapp? Could have easily cried for a FK, but he got right up and took control of the ball... and then he got tackled from behind again :|
