View Full Version : Better Transfer System
Harry Kewell 04-09-1999, 02:16:PM I think that the current transfer system in Fifa 99 is rubbish. Anybody can buy who ever they want, so the transfer system should be more like in a managerial game e.g. CM3 or the upcoming Fifa Premier League Manager 2000. If your say everton your probably never gonna sign Del Piero from Juventus are you?.
nookie 04-09-1999, 02:53:PM i was wondering what you think of MLS? just my only question for you.
DirkDiggler 04-09-1999, 10:37:PM On the MLS I have 2 things to say;
#1 Penalty Kicks
#2 Draws
Neither of these exist and yet they are things which are fundamental to football.
The Ikster 05-09-1999, 07:14:AM My response to the two things you say, DD.
-I have seen in their boxscores that penalty kicks do happen. However, they're few and far between.
-You obviously are against the shootout. I wrote an article about 6 weeks ago for my website expressing the same feelings about it. In case you're interested in seeing it. If you are, the URL is http://www.geocities.com/Colosseum/Hoop/6949.
Look in "The Ikster Testifies" section for the title "San Jose 3, Chicago 2 (Or is it 2-2?)"
I'll add one thing about the MLS, something you won't see at my website: too much player movement. I know each team wants to improve themselves in the worst way, but the number of midseason trades and player signings about equals that of the other four American sports leagues. Thank goodness there's a trade deadline.
DirkDiggler 05-09-1999, 11:52:AM I liked what you said in your article. I don't understand why every single league in the world goes by a single set of rules, but when Americans decide to set up a league it has to have its own rules.
Here's the problem as I see it. If a team can constantly tie and then win the shootouts then why should they try and get better? They will only ever be just good enough. If every game ends in a shootout then it will get very boring.
The mentality of a player in the MLS is totally different than the attitude of a player in say the SPL. For example, Celtic and Rangers are playing. It's the 68th minute and the score is 2-2. All the players on both teams are pushing themselves as hard as they can because they know if the game ends with that score then they only get 1 point and they have to share that with the other team. Now for the MLS. NY/NJ are playing DC U. 68th minute, score is tied 2-2. The players on one side are thinking, hey we have the better GK, we'll win the shootout, so let's just play for the tie. The players on the other side may be thinking, hey, our GK is not as good as theirs, so let's play for the win.
IMO this ends up making the game weak. It's just stupid that they have to have different rules from every other league.
DirkDiggler 05-09-1999, 11:54:AM Oh yeah, as I don't watch the MLS perhaps you could answer this. When somebody is fouled in the box, a situation which would normally result in a PK, does the fouled team get a standard PK or one of those hockey deals? I was under the impression that they got one of the hockey deals, hence I said PKs don't exist in MLS.
The Ikster 05-09-1999, 09:18:PM Not all players feel that way about the shootout. I know that Eric Wynalda stated that he refuses to ever participate in one.
And to answer your question, it's a standard PK. They're still few and far between in the MLS.
nookie 07-09-1999, 04:33:AM i agree about the dumb shootout. i think they should get rid of it and play by the international rules of fussball!(football, i call it that since i live in germany) there are matches where teams deserve one point and they should just well, cut down the trades too. they should have colleges make there own leagues since its more popular or something. cant think of anything. oh well. but i like bundesliga and my favorite team is dortmund. sheisse bayern! even though i live in bayern(the state in germany). oh well.
DirkDiggler 07-09-1999, 04:52:AM Another thing I dislike about American sports is that there is no relegation. Obviously this is because there are no lower leagues, but this should be changed. If a team is in last place they have nothing to worry about because next season they get a fresh start. If there is the threat of relegation then they will play harder because they want to stay in the top league.
The Ikster 07-09-1999, 06:57:AM DD, you'd probably be interested in the recent article that I posted. I only touch upon it in "Expansive Thoughts", but that, too, is well worth a look. That is, if you haven't yet.
And to nookie, that was funny what you said about Bayern, even though that's my favorite Bundesliga team. I only know a few words of German, but sheisse is one I know.
Jimmious 16-09-1999, 08:25:AM Kewell one more time I agree with you.Especially in FIFA 2k where you will play consecutive leagues you can't just buy whomever you want!!!This means FIFA 2k needs a manager-like transfer system. Also in my opinion the others teams should transfer too due to their needs, power and money. You see it would be a bit crazy to play 10 season and afterall have a dream-team and all the others are the same!!!!
Kewell we should organise the letter to be send to EA.It will be great!
FatBob 18-09-1999, 09:19:PM so as MLS is included in Fifa2000, do they have the dodgy shoot-out effort or not?
sorry if this has already been asked and answered but i'm new.
Elninho 22-09-1999, 02:25:AM DD, I think you might be a bit confused on the shootout...
A shootout win only gets 1 point in MLS, and a shootout loss gets 0. A regulation-time win gets the regular 3 points.
As for a team playing for the tie... the fact that a team gets only 1 point for the shootout win prevents that. Check the standings at www.mlsnet.com to see an example of a team that played for the tie. San Jose currently has 16 wins and 12 losses - but 10 of those wins are in the shootout. For all their efforts, the Clash has a grand total of 28 points in the standings. Meanwhile, the Tampa Bay Mutiny, with 13 wins and 16 losses, but only 5 of those wins in the shootout, has 29 points. That's what happens when you play for the draw!
I'm not defending the shootout - I'm not in favor of it either - but I hope this clarifies things.
