I'm going too and I think we'll probably win but the weather's rotten in Glasgow just now so don't expect a classic.

They're playing Johnny B Goode in the stadium:rockman: (H)

I think it'll be close...I hope we can get the win though, it'll give us some confidence going into the WC qualifiers:)

That was never a penalty :|

1-0 to Hungary:( It was coming though, we started off well, but got gradually worse.

0-3, holy sh*t :|

What the hell did Matthäus do with that Hungarian team? They had beaten us as well a few days before the Euro. :o

What WC qualifying group is Hungary in? Keep an eye one them...

yay! another victory for Hungary! i live in hun, so i know pretty much about the players, and etc, but i really didn't exept a threenil win over Scotland tonight, and a 2-0 win against Germany last time! i think Matthaeus' secret is the selection of the squad! before the managers selectioned players from the --relatively-- big clubs and they didn't really cared about the real potential of the player itself. with Lothar it's different. his got a whole bunch of 'spies' (dunno what's the fitting word) who were going on every single matches of the chamionship, and found great, but less famous players! That's how Huszti was discovered!

btw, the wc preliminaries:

Group 8
- Sweden
- Croatia
- Bulgaria
- Iceland
- Hungary
- Malta

Bulgaria, Iceland, and Malta are beatable, but Coatia and Sweden are gonna be quite tough...

Don't get too confident with the result. Right now I am better than that team, although I didn't even watch the game, I know exactly how they played. And I can't play football again! :D

scotland has to improve if they want to be in the next world cup. lose at home against hungary and by 0-3 it's not a good sign

NEVER A PENALTY, i went crazy when it happened, we also had a strong appeal about 10 minutes before it where fletcher (?) was brought down on the edge

the 2nd, marshall had no chance but the defence were letting him run through

3rd, marshall should have had it

overall, im pretty confidecent for most of the game we were the better team, its only a friendly, there was about 15,000 people, so a full house could get behind the team n give us some spirit

Impressive win by Hungary !

I'd like to see Hungary to go through WC 2006 in Germany. It's been a long time they miss the WC.

I was there and as a Celtic fan it pains me to say it but David Marshall was hopeless

i was workin when it was on but taped it when i got home. by the time the o.g happened it must of been about 1am and i woke everyone up with laughter :( i thought we started really well and there was only going to be 1 winner, but after they scored it was all down hill.

and what the fúck.... gary holt at right back :| what is that all about? oh well atleast we know who NOT to play for slovenia. i wouldnt play marshall in goals, we need a more experienced more vocal keeper, do we even have one?! obviosly stick jackie mcnamara back at right back and i wouldnt play webster either i found him really dodgy. ide rather we played either of aberdeens centre backs alongside elvis. the holding roll would be holt's. i mean what the fúck is gary caldwell even doing in the squad let alone starting line up. ide probebly keep quashie, ferguson and fletcher in midfield they were all reasonably O.K but none of them really wanted to get forward enough so ide have pearo on the bench to come off if needed. and we still need someone to play upfront with mcfadden, darren mackie? (H)

hungary were not that great either, there goals came from a pen that wasnt a pen, a quite amazing goal, and well....an o.g. i still think we'll beat slovenia though, its been 8 years since we last won a hampden friendly, but it must be about 5 since we last lost a competitive game there.

:(

It IS indeed 5 years since Scotland lost a competitive game at Hampden.

I can't remember who the opponent was though, :p

Probably Scotland 1-2 Czech Republic, Euro 2000 qualifier.

Why has Berti Vogts not been sacked yet? How many hammerings do Scotland have to take? It's is 100% obvious that he is achieving nothing apart from a hatful of record defeats.

He has had 2 good results - 2-0 away in Iceland and 1-0 at home to Holland (a very lucky victory). I don't class 1-1 at home to a very poor Germany as a particularly good result, after all, Lithuania and Iceland also drew with Germany and the Faroes very nearly drew with them twice.

He has had more abismal results than I care to remember....5-0 to France, 6-0 to Holland, 4-0 to Wales, 4-1 to S Korea, 3-0 to Hungary, 2-0 to Austria, 1-0 to Lithuania, 2-2 with Faroes. Sack, anyone? This looks like the record of a sacked manager.

He is truly clueless. Scotland will not qualify for the WC 2006, he will be sacked in 2005, so why wait??? What exactly are the SFA waiting for?? Do they think that after 2 1/2 years of tactical disasters he' suddenly going to pull some magic tricks out of the bag?? He has absolutely nothing to offer. It is so obvious. Why are we waiting?

Sack him now. Let's get someone with tactical acumen in.

.::John::.
20-08-2004, 02:17:AM
The problem is...we can't actually afford to sack him. In order to sack him we'd have to pay off the rest of his contract and it seems the SFA aren't prepared to do that. And.....it pains me to say it, but the guy seems determained to keep ******* up the team and I can't see him jumping ship, so it looks like we are stuck with the bastard until 2006.

The only option now appears to be assasination :( I gonna build a Mountain Howitzer Cannon (http://www.buckstix.com/howitzer.htm) and find out where he lives(H)

BTW.....Craig Gordon for Scotland goalie(H)

Nope, it was the home leg of the Euro 2000 play-off. Just to make things worse we won the away leg and still went out. The Czech Republic game was at Celtic Park anyway and because precious little Gary McAllister got booed he went in the huff and never played for us again.

Oh yeah. I forget who that game was against, too. All I remember is that they weren't very good, whoever they were. And there was a terrible smell lingering in the stadium after they'd gone. Most of their players looked like poofs, too.

i also remember we played them off the pitch home and away in those play offs but some ginger midget somehow managed to send them through

As for the resons for Scottish football going downhill, there was quite a good article in The Scotsman today about it. The gist of it was that kids aren't playing football as much as they are now, and thats true :(

AberdeenFC

nae really.

theres no money going into football, at kids level that is. theres no facilitys, countrys like denmark and croatia have a similar population to us but have done a lot in football because they have the facilitys for kids to improve and develop. i pretty much only get to play football with my mates in summer, cause the football field we play at doesnt even have lights so its pitch black after that. give us facilitys and we'll be brazil (H)

On football focus (i think) today Gordon Strachan was asked if he would like the Scotland job. What did he say?

"I'm a scotsman, how could I say no to that?"

Hopefully David Taylor was watching. And if he wasn't someone should give give him a bloody ring, because Berti Vogts is absolutley useless.
