08/10/2000. Barcelona have agreed personal terms with Real Betis striker Alfonso, and all that remains is for the two clubs to finalize an agreement for the player’s transfer.
If the deal is completed, Alfonso will sign a four-year contract worth 300 million pesetas ($1.6 million) per season.
Betis want 2.6 billion pesetas ($14.1 million) plus the loan of Nano or Puyol in exchange for the Spanish international striker. Barca are okay with the cash sum, but the Catalans are reluctant to part with either of their young prospects.
Nevertheless, the deal will reportedly be done later this afternoon.
“Gaspart knows that what he should do is accept, because that is a very reasonable sum for a player of Alfonso’s quality,” said Betis president Manuel Ruiz de Lopera.
