View Full Version : Startup problems
haffey 09-09-2004, 01:36:PM Hi....I'm having some troubles with FIFA 2002 on my PC. I have Windows XP. The game installs fine, and seems to run fine, except when I go to play a match, after selecting the teams, the game seems to crashs and exits back to Windows. I was wondering if anyone else had this problem or knew how it culd be fixed? As far as I know I meet all of the requirments for the game to run, but haven't had any luck. Any help or suggestions would be helpful. Thanks....
ntigers2004 09-09-2004, 05:01:PM yeah i sorta get the same thing except it can choose teams then almost loads then crashes!!!

haffey 10-09-2004, 05:18:AM I have tried uninstalling and then reinstaling several times but have had no luck. I haven't added anything either, although I'd like to if I could ever get the game running so I could play a match.
Has anyone else had troubles like this? Is there a patch or something for XP that might help?
Phantom69 10-09-2004, 06:00:PM Your PC is too fast for the game, this is an old bug that EA couldn't be bothered to fix. If your PC is over 2GHz then the game wont work. You will need to underclock your PC via the BIOS (try reducing the FSB or the multplier) to something less than 2GHz.
Sadly, I can no longer play the game as Athlon64 motherboards don't seem to allow you to underclock your processor.
And yes, it is pathetic - but hey it's EA Games so what do you expect!

haffey 11-09-2004, 06:36:AM Thanks for the info. That really sucks about my computer being to fast then, and it seems like a lot of work to fix it, which I don't think I'm going to bother with.
Is this commmon with toher EA Sports titles?
Thanks again for the help...

Whilst I don't know exactly if this exact problem is common to other EA Sports titles, I can tell you that poor, cruddy, support in general is common to virtually all games made by EA Games/Sports/etc.
They sum up all that is wrong with the PC games industry at the moment by releasing half-finished buggy games and then never fixing glaring problems or providing all the features they advertise. Check out the official Command & Conquer Generals forums for some of the best examples. Once you've handed over your money they lose interest in you. I've never bought a FIFA game since 2002 because I've had enough of EA (Got '00, '01 and '02).

haffey 12-09-2004, 01:19:AM I'll keep your info in mind, I agree with you from what I've found out since I've had the game. I bought it for really cheap, but I still feel like it's been a waste. I guess I need to get a home gaming system if I'm gonna be playing games. But anyway, I might give the NHL or NBA games a shot if I can find them cheap, but maybe not. Thanks for your help and comments again....

man I didn't know that, I tried installing it on my laptop, to carry around the game, and the crashing thing happened, came here and found out what the problem is. My laptop is a 3.20GHz, sucks too (not being able to install it on my laptop) I'll just install it on my 1.6GHz desktop then. :(
Joe Star 01-10-2005, 03:16:AM ****........this sucks....hmm....so i better get all the work done on my roster before i upgrade my comp :(
ffan999 03-10-2005, 12:28:PM What i do is keep on starting a particular match over and over again until it works. It works for me!
