Kevin_SG 15-08-2000, 11:02:PM Halftime Report Canada 0-0 Mexico Mexico has been dominating the play with Canada playing a 5-4-1. Canada is turing to a more attacking style as the game moves on. Mexico never truly had any solid chance while Canada almost had a breakaway on a counter-attacke but the last defender stopped Xausa at the tip of the 18 with Campos on his line. Full Match report will follow the end of the game. GO CANADA GO!!! Kevin_SG 15-08-2000, 11:59:PM Fulltime Report Canada 0-2 Mexico Mexico once further dominated the game and scored 2 minutes into the 2nd half. Canada simply could not keep up with Mexico along with the heat, crowd, and altitude it was all too much for Canada. Half way through the 2nd half Xausa had a breakaway and a rather easy chance for a goal but instead makes a horrible pass and ruins Canada's chance at tieing the game. The second goals comes off a free kick when a Canadian defender flicked the ball off his head straight into the back of the net. It was a fantastic goal only for the wrong team. Canada's chances of qualifying for the World Cup are getting slimmer every day. GO CANADA GO!!! TeKNoS 16-08-2000, 06:48:AM MEXICO CITY, Aug 15 (Reuters) - Mexico used two second-half goals to push past Canada 2-0 and garner a much-needed three points in a CONCACAF group World Cup qualifer on Tuesday. After a handful of first-half near misses, second-half substitute Jose Manuel Abundis broke through at the 48th minute, slotting home a cross from Miguel Zepeda from close range. Canadian defender Paul Fenwick had the misfortune of flicking a Pavel Pardo free kick into his own net at the 81st minute to round out the scoring. Mexico was again plagued by a lack of finishing power that haunted them in their two earlier group qualifying matches -- a 1-0 win over Panama and a 1-0 loss to Trinidad and Tobago. But with the win Mexico moves to the top of group C with six points in three matches, tied with Trinidad and Tobago. Canada rests at the bottom of the group with a lone point from three matches. Trinidad and Tobago, with six points in two matches, play Panama on Wednesday in Port-of-Spain. Two teams qualify for the final stage of the CONCACAF qualifying competition. _____________________________________________ Don't undermine Mexico's goal ! Oh well, it was still off of a good free kick. VIVA MEXICO !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! TeKNoS 16-08-2000, 06:50:AM Don't feel bad though, the last time Mexico lost in the Azteca Stadium in Mexico city was in 1980. The Aztec Gods have helped us once again ! VIVA MEXICO !!!!!!!!!!! Kevin_SG 16-08-2000, 07:41:AM Actually from what I understand Mexico has never lost Azteca, they tied 3 times, Canada actually being the first team to tie Mexico in the Azteca in 1980. TeKNoS 16-08-2000, 08:56:AM No, I'll admit. We lost to some Caribbean team I think. If I find it I'll post it. Anyway, sorry if I got excited, but I was happy after that loss in February. Canada will make it to the World Cup don't worry, they're strong now. TeKNoS Kevin_SG 16-08-2000, 10:31:AM Canada's chances of making the world cup going into the Mexico games were slim to none and slim just left. We basically have no chance now of qualifying. Its sad but we shot ourselves in the foot against T&T (I was at that game) and Panama. shez 16-08-2000, 03:13:PM hehe canada what a joke!! soccerfreakforever 16-08-2000, 07:31:PM I believe Canada did ok. Like, this time they qualified. So, nobody makes fun of my Canada. Kostas 7 17-08-2000, 06:44:AM How old are you Shez? Must be under twelve if that's all you have to say. Sorry to all those intellegent 12 year olds out there. |
