View Full Version : FIFA 2005 Controls and Gamepads Thread

I read on gamespot that EA will have better gamepad support for this year's title.

Does anyone have any more information on this subject??

I've long been frustrated with the gamepad issue as have many others.. first i bought two Thrustmaster Dual Power 2 gamepads and the right analog stick didn't work because their drivers are screwy..

So then i bought the "recommended" Dual Analog gamepads from Logitech.. and like counless other people... i have been plagued with the gamepad losing calibration every few minutes so i have to unplug and replug the controller in and hope it works ever minute or so... very annoying..

So maybe they'll just add support for the Thrustmaster gamepad so that I can have a gamepad that stays calibrated and has a right analog stick that works..

otherwise i'll have to buy yet another gamepad..

In that case.. i'd like to know which work for people now or which will work in 2005... and by work i mean... has two analog sticks that stay calibrated and in which the right analog stick actually does what it is supposed to so you can use it to do proper moves (in this case the first touch system)

OK THANKS!!

you gotta buy a special $100 gamepad for FIFA 2005

without it it won't work, the gamepad is also made by EA

you may also get an experimental $500 gamepad that also helps you loose weight

you sit on it and you move your ass in different directions and thats where the players run, for example,if i shift my ass to the right the player will run to the right

For the first touch control you can either keep it close (something like shift + arrows for PC) or make a move towards a direction.

You can make a chip shot but also a fake shot to send the keeper on a direction.

In create a player, you have total control of appearance, abilities and statistics.

In Fifa Store, u collect points from anything (creating players, winning trophies etc.) and cash them with extra kits, jukebox trax etc.

I hope i'll soon have more to say about this and let u know.

Ahhhhh I HATE it how you have to unlock kits, it is completely HORSESHlT! I dont mind unlocking miscellenous stadiums and tournaments, but kits are necessery in order to have smoother gameplay.

Not happy.......

Rochester Rhino

Like in FIFA 2004, it was just the 3rd kits that were unlocked not the home and away too, so it isn't that bad.

OK, i have some new stuff as for the controls of the new game, gathering data i found here and there. Some might already know from the spanish video, but anyway:

When shooting / passing a meter apears in bottom of the screen. Keep button longer for greater speed / distance. Must not go to the red area though.

There is IGM (in game management) to make taktical changes during the game

When attacking, there are controls for:
Pass / header
Manual through ball
Shot/header/volley/clearence
Lob cross
Early cross
Assisted through ball
Skill moves/first touch
Chip shot
Fake shot
low hard cross
Lobbed through ball

There is Tournament, Practice, Footaball fusion, Play Online, Create Player modes.

In Create Player, you select all details you want for the new player and then go to team information to assign him to a team and a position. You have to save and then you will find him on the team you selected.

Defending controls the same

Off the ball controls seem to be exactly the same.

Free kicks and corners the same.

Thats all i know, if anyone (specially u guys who said u already knew what i posted from spanish video) has anything to add, please do.

ishan1990
10-08-2004, 11:29:PM
thanks, i dont speak spanish so that helps a bit.

Does any one know if the same **** corners are in the game?

(What the ****, only 3 attackers in the box?)

Are they going to change it before the release of the game?

In the spanish video the corners look almost exactly the same....

Can someone tell me...

Soccerfreak_nl
11-08-2004, 01:16:AM
In Practice mode is there a penalty shootout and what do u do in futbal Fusion

ishan1990
11-08-2004, 01:25:AM
in football fusion you can play tcm games in fifa. TCM is a football management game made by EA. you can play matches that you want in fifa.

alou
11-08-2004, 04:42:PM
I think corners and fouls will be exactly the same, at through ins you can move the receiver.

Fusion is in 2004 so u should know its for interacting with manager game (export manager game and play in Fifa 2005 and viseversa).

Practice mode has 6 different areas to select where to practice(field divided in 6 zreas), so i think there should be also PK practice.

Corners are not the same, in the video they said they were similar but not equal. The main change i saw is that now the camera is from far and not a close one so you not lose the players location view like in the corners of FIFA/EURO 2004 were sometimes you lose some rebounds at the corners cause of the close up view.

alou
11-08-2004, 05:32:PM
Maybe, but other than camera "broadcasting views" there is no difference as i saw and read. Same controls, same no of players and same tactics.

alou
11-08-2004, 08:28:PM
One more very important thing about Fifa 2005 is also EA DNA. When you go to Create Player mode and make the player as you like (with tons of available mods), you can see in the bottom of the screen a code called EA DNA.
You can distribute this code to enyone you like so that the same place is avilable to other ppl.

Something like the patches used in the PC. I say this is great, will be easy to keep squads updated even in consoles :)

i dont mind the jostling, its a good idea if done right.

3 men in the box is ****.
corners from last year allow only very few variations
woulnd't it be better if you could choose your power and accuracy and the spot to kick it and then the cursor would move depending on the stats of the kicker and the accuracy and the wind?
that way you would have to anticipate where the ball is going to land while it is in the air...
not only that, other players try to head the ball in too.

alou
12-08-2004, 06:39:PM
Obviously the reason they did it this way is for trying to simulate the "tough" 1 2 1 marking during corners. In this view it is a bit interesting. But there should be an option of taking a shot not based on the receiver, more or less as ishan sais. Anyway, corner is a small fraction of the game and i dont mind if its more or less the same, as long as the rest will be as good as expected...

Spanish video is about console version. Nothing told about
keyboard controls (i'm spanish and i've seen the video).

alou
12-08-2004, 09:36:PM
What i wrote is not from the spanish video.
As far as PC controls, i know that:

First touch
You can control the ball instantly with flick-ons or knocks into space by holding SHIFT and using the Arrow keys

Shooting
Use a chip shot (Q+D) to lift the ball over the keeper or send him the wrong way with a fake shot (C+D).

Passing
Manual through balls (Q+S) can be played into areas that do not contain team-mates, allowing you to pass into space and slice open the defence for fun.

Off the Ball
Use the attacking controls (Z then A/W) on the wing for pinpoint crosses.

Tackling
Get close to the ball carrier (Arrow Keys) to contest for the ball without fouling.

Thats it

mojito19
12-08-2004, 11:50:PM
Me2...
Except for the 'First Touch' controls, which were easy to guess:p:D

Also, i think we could catch the ball in the field limits as it used to be in FIFA WC2002... only with the arrow keys

ishan1990
13-08-2004, 12:04:AM
what? what field limits? you could catch the ball in WC2002?

mojito19
13-08-2004, 12:20:AM
Yea! don't you remember that in WC2002, when the ball was about to get out of the field, you could catch it.... that was very useful!!
Now in FIFA and EURO 04, you can't do that, players are so stupid they don't have a good "FIRST TOUCH":crazyboy: , you'll always lose it

peteukusa
14-08-2004, 12:24:AM

Yes, in the spanish Campus video, during the match that was played by two random guys they shown that it was a new feature, that the defender made a slide to not let the ball go out of the field.

[mouta-FCP]
14-08-2004, 05:37:PM
That slide is like in Pes and is awesome but i think never was in a FIFA version, at least i don't remember and i played quite a lot WC 2002.

DUAL ACTION GAME PAD

nikeportugal
29-08-2004, 12:45:AM
Dual action blows chunks...

I've owned several and had calibration issues for a long time.. with all gamepads.. tested on several systems..

Avoid this gamepad like the plague everyone

If you don't believe me.. go to logitechs user forums... 50% of all their complaints are about these gamepads..

They are the reason i'm looking for an alternative in the first place.

You have been warned!

Is the gamepad worth buying? I have heard so much negative feedback and I'm not sure if I should buy it. If not, what gamepad is worth it? I really only need it for madden.

Re: Logitech Dual Action Gamepad
Jul 10, 2004 andre Casali
NOOO, don't buy it. All those people complaining are teeling the truth. this pad is the worst ever and become useless after few days.
It's a total waste of money, buy something else...I'll never buy from Logitech again in my life, never!!

Re: Logitech Dual Action Gamepad
Jul 24, 2004 Robert Wilson
Definitely not. Don't buy this gamepad. I'm thinking about going back to best buy and putting a sign up over the pads for how bad they are. There isn't a fix for the calibration issue. It's got to be a hardware issue and Logitech just won't answer anyone back on how awful this thing is. In fact the only reason that I will hold onto mine is because I'm going to wait for the class action lawsuit against logitech for this piece..... Hmmm maybe you should buy one as a future investment during the pay off.
One very dissatisfied loyal logitech customer that was burned by them... Never again....

Re: Logitech Dual Action Gamepad
Aug 16, 2004 Alec Humes
The gamepad is horrible, it was good for 2 days, and ever since it's been useless. The solution Logitech offers for the calibration issue is to unplug, and replug the controller, that lasts for a good ten monutes. Not going to touch a logitech product ever again, I've been telling everyone I know the same.

I've had this exact same problem. The pad worked fine for a few days, then failed. I got a replacement one, same problem. I got yet another replacement one a few months ago and it has worked flawlessly since. Seems like a lot of people have this problem, but it also seems that this problem is resolved for people who got the pad (or a replacement one) recently?

Yeah.. I seriously hope there is some way of remapping the keys/buttons this time around.

I have a PS2 to USB converter and use my dual shock 2 controller. It works, both sticks no less, but the button mappings are horribly off. With FIFA 2004 (and Euro 2004) I was able to go in and edit a text file (config.csv I think) that had all the game controllers and their button layouts and create an entry for mine.

Unfortunately this years go around, I can't find a similar file with the demo to edit. Anybody know if this is buried somewhere else? Possibly a binary file now instead of just text??

Other than that, I like the demo. Looks to be a great improvement over last years effort.

Peace out..

I have the same , you have pressed it I bet and said to yourself that can't be it ....

For me it's the little button above C , it's the Z button..

but its not worth a $oss, you press it and you get a 2 yrd burst and thats it!

you can hold the button down or tab it all you want , after that small burst that's it...

I have even tried to use it on defenders to close the player on the ball down, a waste of time , the default run you get when moving the player with the left analog stick, that's you whack when defending...

That short burst you seen your player do when you were no doubt pressing any of the buttons barring the A B and C buttons, that is the sprint .......seems EA must believe that players can't run at speed for more than a yard or two .......

but same sprint isn't so effective like sprint button + pushing right analog in forward direction, then player jumps forward and start running, it's quite useful to lose opponent

THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT FOR THOSE ONES WHO USE A GAMEPAD AND WANNA CHANGE THE MAPPINGS!!!!!

I did the following and it worked:

1.- I went to c:\...\FIFA 2004\data folder and copied "system" folder

2.- I pasted it in c:\...\FIFA 2005 DEMO\data

3.- Then I entered the new system folder and edited by hand the config.dat file, using for example Notepad.

4.- I searched there for my gamepad "LOGITECH WINGMAN CORDLESS USB" and I changed the numbers to my convenience (remember that the first number indicates how many buttons your gamepad has)

5.- PLAY

Well guys, guess what made it back into the game.

The RAINBOW move. I did it with Freddy L. It was fantastic.
Also with Henry I did this neat move where I recieved a pass on the ground and flicked it over my head and volleyed it.

I'm having so much fun with this game its incredible. Just to play around and find new moves, passes, and other abilities is great.

I can't wait till I get the full game on PS2 and play online with all the teams and different modes. Plus soccer games are 5 times better with gamepads.

Says in the readme that it supports this controller. How excited was I. I didn't play the last version because of this. So I download the demo, start it up...recognizes my controller fine, buttons too. WAIT. No right stick support in the game. Guess I'm not playing this one either.

Can anyone tell me if they plan on fully supporting these controllers in the full version?

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\MediaProperties\PrivateProperties\Joystick\OEM

then rename it to one of the pads supported in the read me

I am trying to use my PS and PS2 controllers.

They kind of work and are listed as Dual PSX-USB Adaptor.

Adaptor can be found here:
http://www.play.com/play247.asp?pa=stts3&page=title&r=PC&title=114167

The problems are

1) The dualshock is constantly buzzing as soon as Fifa 2005 is launched. And

2) Both Controller 1 and 2 must be connected or the menu just keeps on scrolling.

If anyone has a similar device to the above do they know any links to drivers or third party software?

If so please post

Fifa 2004 didn't like my Dual Analog 2... I don't know if it's because it uses the Generic Windows XP drivers... sometimes it's detected as a Dual Analog 3 maybe it'll work with Fifa 2005.

Dual Action's calibration issue has been solved in later versions of the pad according to Logitech... but I won't buy another one that's for sure and I don't have the proof of purchase for this one.

They look like that in SystemSettings:

I can play but in the game, in the options menu for configuration I just get shown Keyboard and MS Multimedia Keyboard angezeigt..not even one of my pads

I read a lot of threads already and my pads are both even mentioned in the manual. I tried with logitech drivers and even without but no change.

I even changed the names of the pad later on in the registry so that they match the exact name in the first config.dat but nothing changed

I am not sure which adapter you are using but my SmartJoy works.

1.) Not sure how to stop this. Maybe in the driver .ini for you adapter you can turn it off, or in the settings of the game.

2.) Is analog turned on? My guess is that your analog stick is not calibrated or worn out.

I found a solution but it should only work for pads that are supported by the game:

I changed the name of my pad (via registry key mentioned in this thread) to the Logitech Dual Action (USB) and uninstalled the game.
I reinstalled again and I was able to map the buttons properly in the game. The right stick was messed up so I renamed the pad again to the exact name menioned in the config.dat for my Thrustmaster Dual Analog and now everything works perfect.

If I didn't uninstall the game (I gave up) and reinstall it later I wouldn't have solved the problem just by changing the registry. It's apparently necessary to reinstall the game (in my case at least).

I hope this helps since EA is unwilling to do so.

hey,

I had been having the same problem with my Thrustmaster Firestorm Dual Analogue 3 and had been trying loads of things to get the configuration available in the game settings and the right 'skills' analogue stick to work....

and then i worked out how to do this....

ok

simply find your controller in this directory in regedit

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\MediaProperties\PrivateProperties\Joystick\OEM

then rename it to one of the pads supported in the read me

for example mine is a ps2 pad so i renamed

I couldn't figure out how to get to the registry bits but then found out that you go to Start / type 'Run' /type 'Reg' and then you can browse to the folders mentioned above. I then found the OEM names that listed my current controller, and then renamed them to match the Thrustmaster Firestorm descriptions on the games config.dat file.

Tried again and hurrah...! I can now configure my Thrustmaster Firestorm and use the skills stick.... sweet!

Thanks for your help.

then rename it to one of the pads supported in the read me

for example mine is a ps2 pad so i renamed
Logitech DualAction USB under OEMNAME
i cant my controller its a saitek sp550

i have done that with my old gamepad!!!
i am playing only with my keyboard but this is great discovering for all you.
so racear has right.good job

this is what you must do
1)run regedit
2)then edit>find
3)put there the name of your joypad.you will find that in control panel>game controler
4)when it find that, rename it to "Logitech DualAction USB"
5) Press F3 to find next then do the same
6) press F3 and rename them until its over

if you have done these steps then in control panel>game controler you must see the name "Logitech DualAction USB" that means it's OK
now go play fifa 2005 and go to options to change the keys you want
the only problem is that you can't change "first touch" ("shift" in keyboard) but i think if you have analog stick i think it will solve the problem

good luck

Fifa 2005 has support for various gamepads.
I have the Saitek p880 and it works fine.
Go to My Documents/Fifa 2005/user
There is a file called mappings.dat
You can open it with excel and see the names of the controllers. It will say it's not a format for excel, but open it anyway and it will show you the names of the controllers.
Just make sure that in the regedit you change the name of your controller to exactly how it is written in the mappings.dat file.
But I don't think the Saitek sp550 is on the list.

I have a Nyko Air Flo, its not listed on the list of gamepads for fifa05, but it is supported. I just plug it to my usb, nothing else. It work like magic, no calibration problems, and the buttons can be re-assigned. Its perfect so far!!!!!!!!!

so the short answer to my question is that I can edit all my registry keys and f*ck up every other game I own that recognizes my Saitek P3000 controller perfectly to attempt to play Fifa 2005.

No thanks, WE7 works great out of the box.

EA screwed up NHL royally this year and now they've lost more of my money for FIFA with this controller issue as well. Maybe they'll try harder next year.

When I start up fifa 2005 the controller seems like it is stuck on 1 button because on the language selection list is just on a continuous cycle.

If I manage to then select English while it is wizzing through the languages, the team selection menu is then wizzing through all the teams.

they work on fifa 2003

can anyone make a suggestion on how to fix this problem.

thanks.

Wrong forum mate!

Sounds to me like ya controller isnt configured right. Try going to the controller options and setting up each button manually. Another reaon you may not have your controller selected as the primary device, check this as your configuring the joystick.

hey, im having problems with my usb ps2 converter thing and when i play fifa i cant use the right analogue stick properly and im wondering if its worth buying the logitech gamepad because to me without the skills and first touch sorta takes some of the fun away from the game and being able to skin someone online with the use of the analogue stick is unbeatable and at the mo i cant do this, so do you think its worth the £20.00 for the gamepad?

Getting quite annoyed at this small problem I have. I am using a Logic3 USB Rumble Gampad http://www.logic3.com/?page=shop/flypage&product_id=336&category_id=&ps_session=554f5e435d03be114287661a1a6374e0

I have the latest Windows XP drivers etc. I cannot change the Gamepad controls in Fifa 2005, when I go to the area to do this it just brings up the keyboard controls. When I press the left or right arrows nothing happens. I cannot play the game as the default controls are screwed.

I maybe should have put this in the support/gamepads forum but I figured I'd get more replies here. If a mod or whatever wants to move it that's cool :)

I've got some spare money and want to invest in a new gamepad. I'm currently using a Saitek P220 which works very well but doesn't have the analogue feature to get the most out of FIFA '05. I've read up on various gamepads and am having trouble deciding which to go for as it seems there is a chance of running into problems whichever I get. I really like the look of the Saitek P880 and the Logitech Dual Action but would be willing to go for any others.

So what do you guys think? Which one should I go for? BTW I've read about mapping problems etc but I have had no problems with my Saitek P220 - so does this mean I wouldn't have any problems with a new gamepad? Many thanks in advance. :)

I'm using the Joytech/ Play.com controller converter to play FIFA 2005.

I've solved the problem of continuous scrolling on the main menu by inserting two controllers.

I've also solved the continuous rumbling of the joypad by changing settings in "regedit"

The final problem, which remains unsolved is the right analogue stick (used in replays, free kicks etc), the directions don't work as they should.

Has anybody had this problem and has anybody managed to solve it?

Well, it's been a year since I bought my latest Gravis Gamepad Pro, and, as usual, it kicked off after a year. I bought this new one, and, unfortunately couldnt find a Gravis anywhere. I settled for the closest, called "Competition Pro Power Pad" It's the standard PS-type gamepad (without analog sticks).

Anyway, problem is when i started up FIFA '05 with the new gamepad, I couldn't access the controller configuration. It showed me the keyboard setup, but wouldn't change when i hit the arrows to go to gamepad config. Can anyone tell me how to fix this either via FIFA or manually by editing a file itself within FIFA?

Thanks.

I still don't have a freestyle button for my Sidewinder Gamepad Pro (New Silver one)... When ever I take free kicks and want to curve I have to swap to keyboard. So I can't even do any awesome freestyle moves.

Logitech Wing man cordless, has all the functions. No hassles at all....for those that have problems with the free kicks and deeking, make sure you get
a game pad with two joysticks...that's the only thing that worked for me.
I'm sticking with logitech...found that saitek sucks...good for fifa but bad for hockey.
Better yet do some research before you buy the gamepad.
