OK, this is the story. All u have to do to make a save is to guess the side the ball will go to. So if u throw yourself to correct side u will make save no matter the ball went for example higher or lower. Of course, we all know that in most cases ball goes in. U can not throw yourself high or lower to the ground to make a save. So the process is automated. Just guess the side. That makes penalty kicks uninteresting :(

i agree, why not have a bit more freedom...

i noticed only the good players can hit penalties hard to the side....

Even i can hit balls hard and too the side in penalties (and i'm not a good player)

the goodness of the keeper should also come into play...

and for penalties straight down the middle maybe the goalie (if he's already guessed to one side and has not fully commited himself) can try and come back to the middle and save it, or at least try.

I noticed this like when I first started playing the demo. The penalties are ****. Its a guessing game when it comes to penalties. EA do you know football? Not all the keepers save the penalty when they guessed it right. :kader:

The Portuguese league isnt anything special aswell. Plus Championship Manager owns FIFA completely (it's not even the same genre, but it's 10x more addictive and it's a far more rewarding game).

I dont think you can buy it in the USA. Anyway, you should be able to ship it or if you have a good ADSL connection, well, i wont complete the phrase, you know what i mean.

You just manage a team, so it's not a action game, you dont grab your joystick and try fancy stuff (if that's what you're looking for, stay away from CM). However, it's a brilliant game if you like the tactical aspect of football, and if you ever fancied taking the team you support to glory.

Sign, sell and loan players, praise or criticize them, change training schedules, be offered jobs, ask for stadium expansions is just some of the few things you can do. There is pretty much every important (and a ****load of not-so-important) league in the world, so it's kinda hard to get bored as the replay aspect of the game is pretty damn good. If you're thinking of getting CM, get the CM 03/04 version as it's in my opinion the best one out, and it's non-buggish and has the most updated rosters.

However my advice is to wait for FM 2005 (new management game made by SI, the creators of CM).

This penalty thing makes me very sad :( I really enjoy playing penalty kicks against someone but where is the joy in just guessing left or right :( As i said before i am PES fan but was FIFA fan once and i would really like to see this game get better and there are definitely a lot of improvements but penalties just suck.

I tottally beg to differ about your oppinions on Penalties. They are perfect the way they are. At the moment you have a One-In-Three chance of saving a penalty, which allthough not very realistic, is awesome for a good gaming experience!

Imagine for a second that you can take penalties where you can select the exact height / direction ... these would be allmost impossible to save. Where's the fun in knowing virtually every penalty is desined to become a goal?

I'll give you an example; Say you're playing a game online, its been a hard-fought, competative match and you're winning 2-1 coming into the 80th minute. Suddenly, your opponant manages to break through your defence and is clear on goal. You have one defender near enough to reach him in the box. ... With the current system, you can foul the player, have your defender sent off, then still have a One-In-Three chance of still being in the lead. With the new system you've sugested, this chance of staying in the lead would be closer to One-to-One.

I know the current penatly style isn't very realistic, but it's fair! It gives the 'keeper a chance and overall makes the game far more balanced, which I beleive is much better.

I have to disagree. I've had penalty kicks against me where I've dived for top corner and the ball has gone underneath me, or I'll go for top corner and guess right but I miss it and the ball goes right in top corner, it looks great!

Don't put in the same spot Clubs and National Teams, also Champions League have 32 teams strugling for the title during a season, Eurocup is less more than 1 month and have only 16 NT...

Yes sure ok, Portuguese league is at the same level as the Turkish league. Remember Genclerbirligi and Sporting Lisbon game last year. Genclerbirligi is just a poor team and Sporting Lisbon is one of the best Portuguese team.

i actually like pro evo's penalties better...

they just seem a lot more free, if they just added a power bar i think pro evo's penalties would be perfect.

I liked ISSS 64's penalty system...
you have to carefully control your joystick to keep it in the corner, plus the player's attributes mattered when shooting....

Yes and if you used the square thing with the keeper you could go into the specific spot the ball went just like with the one who kicked it, however for both the keeper and the one who kicked the penalty you could remove the square, and in the shootouts you had to choose the order of the 11 players before it started.

You are talking about history, portuguese league is all about history now. The only reason Portuguese league might be more importand than the turkish league because your league has a better history. Not anymore, both leagues are in the same level these days. Accept it or not but thats a fact. How many teams are battling in UEFA from Portugal?

Yeah I m not denying Porto winning the CL last year. But Portuguese league is not any difference than the Turkish League or the Greek league and thats a fact. I don't see any thing special in the Portuguese league as I seen Seria A, Bundes liga, Spanish League..... And I have seen how Porto played against Galatasaray this season. Don't try to fight back by saying 'oh porto lost most of their players, blah blah' A CL winner should have great bench players and even they lost few players from last season, they should be able to buy as much quality players as the ones that left the team. When Gala won the UEFA Cup, 7 players left and yet they managed to beat Real Madrid at the Super Cup and qualified to the quarter finals of the CL. No excuse. Porto played horrible, I know can't judge in one game but I have also seen Lisbon and Genclerbirligi game.

But Internationaly Portugal has better players IMO.

mega post lads, I love how Fener_Bache's gotten so wound up. As an impartial observer (English), I rate the Portugese League higher than the Turkish and Greeks, though the Turkish League's not far behind. The fact that Porto won 2 European Cups (Uefa in 03, and Champion's League last year) shows that they have it at the moment. I think Boavista got to the seni's of the Uefa Cup in 03 too (though I might be wrong).

Mourinho's definitely not the best manager of all time thoug, that's just being silly. Maybe in time he will be, but certainly not yet.

The penalties, I think they're OK, I"ve not really had time to judge just yet..
