View Full Version : Team America: World Police
bjmenge 21-09-2004, 11:42:PM This movie comes out in October. It's from the two guys that created South Park, so I think it should be pretty funny.
Trailer (http://www.apple.com/trailers/paramount/team_america/)
Gerrard 17 22-09-2004, 03:09:AM Hakeem, don't go to the premiere coz the theater will get nuked (H)
Hakeem 22-09-2004, 03:12:AM well, it didnt happen with Fahrenheit 9-11 so maybe Im safe with this one :p
btw, I was really nervous on the Fahrenheit screening :$ :(
rony31 22-09-2004, 03:21:AM why do you get to go to all these screenings? :(
Hakeem 22-09-2004, 03:26:AM you have to know the right people :|
nah, just kidding. mostly from the radios and tv channels. their websites have lots of screenings.
Gerrard 17 22-09-2004, 03:29:AM do they have those in every areas? how would i hook me self up with some?
Hakeem 22-09-2004, 03:36:AM where are you?
but yeah, they're everywhere. just check your local radios' (mostly FMs) websites and the TV channels' websites.
ABC and WB from atlanta are the ones with the most screenings here.
Vagegast 22-09-2004, 03:59:AM It's usually in D.C. Kader. Check the websites of the movies.
I was about to go this one time, but I was too lazy. (H)
Callan 22-09-2004, 09:57:AM There are pre-screenings (advanced screenings) all over the place. Even in here in Australia!! :D
But I never go to them, I tend to just wait until they are released nation-wide.... but by that time everyone else has seen them because the films always come out late here in Australia.
Anyway this film will be ok I guess... more funny if you are an American but I will still laugh I think. :D
Jacky 22-09-2004, 12:07:PM ah.... thunderbirds..... brings back memories....
Internazionale 23-09-2004, 01:09:PM Damn, I love the quote from the movie, "Terrorists, terrorize this !"
santino 24-09-2004, 12:32:AM looks like its gonna be a "stupid funny" kind of movie
my favourtie kind of movies(H)

why do you get to go to all these screenings? :( It's easy to get to Premiers of films, you just have to book loads in advance. I've been to about 10 premiers in Leisceter Square and all I did was buy the tickets months in advance - it's not even any more expensive (well, normal tickets are more expensive in London, but its not more expensive than a normal London ticket). Only problem is they are really tough on age restrictions so I couldnt see Kill Bill, they even asked my dad for ID.
Hakeem 24-09-2004, 04:11:AM but what Kader is talking about, the ones I get, are free advance screenings. they're usually just days before the movie opens and it some cases, for small movies, the screenings are with a Q&A by the filmakers/actors and those are sometimes a month in advance or something (Y)
Im pretty sure you cant pay to get into the advance screenings and the real premieres (with the whole cast, directors, producers and even other actors that just are invited) only happen in NY and LA :(

British premiers in Leicseter square are pretty good though, most of the cast usually turn up, but it is a damn tight squeeze as every seat is sold, but the cast or directors never actually speak. I did go to one once, it was an arthouse film called 'La Balance Du Pamarant', where there was an afterparty inwhich the director gave a speech, but otherwise nothing like that.

The trailor was on the news a few minutes ago and I like what I've seen so far. Its by the creators of South Park so it must be good, and the people in the White House are pretty much pissed off with it.

I heard there's a full blown sex scene in that movie.
It looks like a rental at best, though.
Virgo 13-10-2004, 02:26:AM it has an 8.2/10 rating on imdb.com... should be good at least.

Are you kidding me? That movie looks brilliant. I can't wait for it to hit theaters.
:rockman:
Sir Calumn 13-10-2004, 02:29:AM From what I've seen it looks really sh!te - I wouldnt even consider it if it wasnt for Trey Parker and Matt Stone but because it is, I may give it a try.
i saw that report too ben :D looked great! lol
TROD.
Voltaic Borusse 13-10-2004, 02:50:AM Eh, the dialogue should be good, seeing as how it's from Trey and Matt, but I don't know about the whole puppet thing.
I'm a bit skeptical about it.
Sir Calumn 13-10-2004, 02:54:AM I havent seen it get above 3 stars in any of the reviews I've read, but Empire havent reviewed it yet and they're the only people worth listening to really.
so true that calumn.
TROD.
Vagegast 13-10-2004, 03:09:AM They make fun of Sean Penn in the move so Sean decided to write a letter:To Trey Parker and Matt Stone,
I remember a cordial hello when you guys were beginning to be famous guys around Hollywood at some party. I remember several times getting a few giggles out of your humor. I remember not being bothered as you traded on my name among others to appear witty, above it all, and likeable to your crowd. I never mind being of service, in satire and silliness.
I do mind when anybody who doesn't have a child, doesn't have a child at war, or isn't or won't be in harm's way themselves, is encouraging that there's "no shame in not voting" "if you don't know what you're talking about" (Mr. Stone) without mentioning the shame of not knowing what your talking about, and encouraging people to know. You guys are talented young guys but alas, primarily young guys. It's all well to joke about me or whomever you choose. Not so well, to encourage irresponsibility that will ultimately lead to the disembowelment, mutilation, exploitation, and death of innocent people throughout the world. The vote matters to them. No one's ignorance, indcluding a couple of hip cross-dressers, is an excuse.
All best, and a sincere **** you,
Sean Penn
P.S. Take this as a personal invitation from me to you (you can ask Dennis Miller along for the ride as well) to escort you on a trip, which I took last Christmas. We'll fly to Amman, Jordan and I'll ride with you in a (?) 12 hours through the Sunni Triangle into Fallujah and Baghdad and I'll show you around. When we return, make all the fun you want.
Run DMB 13-10-2004, 03:10:AM So far it's fresh on RottenTomatoes.com:

Just barely though.
meh, Penn kind of has a point

Ubik Valis 13-10-2004, 03:14:AM In what way were they making fun of Sean Penn? And I have no clue what the fu** Sean is on about in that letter? (:/) :| :$
cos they're taking the piss out of Iraq essentially, governement etc.
No offence to the southpark guys but its far easier to make a comedy abusing something than it is to make a comedy about something 'brand new'

shokz 13-10-2004, 03:38:AM Well after reading the reviews on rottentomatoes.com I'm looking forward to this.
(H)
The South Park people have taken things a little too far now. How controversial are they if the difference of what they're doing and the thing that comes out of the government's mouth about North Korea is practically none at all? I'm not supporting North Korea here, but now it seems like another one of those huge exaggeration to make the enemy bigger than what it really is (USSR).
Yes it's probably gonna have some humor that will make probably everyone laugh. And this doesn't mean I'm not gonna laugh at South Park and this movie either. But people should think about this, no doubt.
agreed, great post.

Hakeem 13-10-2004, 10:27:AM oh man, just got back from seeing this, and this is one of the funniest movies of the year. really excellent.
This contains some spoilers but there are no twists so there really is no harm. Also, this movie is Rated R as much as possible so is the review :p
Team America is a movie anti-anti-terrorism, but at the same time its not pro-terrorism.
Bad guy and North Korean leader Kim Jong II is creating Weapons of Mass Destruction and giving them to the terrorists so they can create chaos and so the world thinks that he's not the one attacking.
Team America comes to the rescue in the opening scene in France to kill the terrorists and at the same time end up destroying Paris and all their landmarks. An excellent opening scene where everything happens, and after defeating the enemies, one of them comes back to take the life of one Team America member.
Theater Actor Gary Johnson is then recruited by Team America's leader Spottswoode to join members Chris, Sarah, Lisa and Joe, because of his excellent acting, so he can infiltrate in terrorist territory and found out where are the rest of the WMD and stop them.
They puppets, so anything can happens, and it happens.
The so talked-about sex scene, which was cut from the original 3 minutes is excellent. 20 seconds of pure laugh and all the positions available including oral sex, anal sex, 69s, and all you can imagine.
The puking scene is also excellent in the gross department.
The actions scenes is like watching GI JOE commercials. Their little planes and jeeps and boats and helicopters are excellent. And the fight scenes are nonstop laugh. specially the first one.
The songs, awesome. "America, **** Yeah!" is going to the Oscars im predicting. Excellent song. And the others are great too like the Kim Jong II sings.
The movie also features a lot of well known actors (none of them approved their appearances though) including Sean Penn, Tim Robbins, Susan Sarandon, Matt Damon, Liv Tyler, Samuel L. Jackson, Danny Glover, Helen Hunt and more. And they're included very mcuh in the movie.
The whole speech that goes all along story about Dicks, Pussies and Assholes is excellent and also non stop laugh, like the whole movie.
Oh yeah, the puppets look awesome too.
PS: the movie really doesn't have any politics in it, and shockingly, George Bush is not portrayed nor talked about. :|
the movie (Y)(Y)(Y)(Y)(Y)
rony31 13-10-2004, 11:35:AM you said that about Anchorman, so I'm not gonna trust you on this one, Hakeem :(
Hakeem 13-10-2004, 11:40:AM thats ok. and I said that this is one of the funniest of the year and didnt name anchorman cause I know you guys didnt like for some reason. Anchorman is still my funniest movie with Team America in second and Napoleon Dynamite in third for 2004.
but my review and anchorman background aside :p, you really dont find the guys story (south park), the trailer, and the whole puppet movie idea funny enough to see the movie?
No it's funny alright. But I'm talking about the South Park folks taking it a little too far with the heroism thing. I shouldn't explain any more of this, as I explained above (hopefully you read it?).
Caponedawg 13-10-2004, 12:15:PM when I saw the trailer I thought it would be a ripoff of that old show Thunderbirds. I can't see it though. I already had my movie date this past weekend for Friday Night Lights.
Ubik Valis 13-10-2004, 06:30:PM I just saw a clip of it on Jay Leno last night, where Hans Blix visits the president of North Korea or whatever, and he sends exactly like the asian guy from City Wok in South Park. (H) :jap:

yep. read that. but the movie really is not like that. is more of a joke to anti-terrorism,
Limberopoulos21 14-10-2004, 08:33:AM I hope there's no patriotic garbage in this movie, I'm sick of that. But this movie might be a big let down, cough*south park movie*cough.
Awesome movie! :rockman: :rockman: :rockman:
Stupid comedy that I love.
Oscarpuma9 04-12-2004, 04:43:PM I like to see South park, and I've also seen Baseketball, and was funny, but I dont think that this movie will be anygood.
:kader:
Bue hey that's just my opinion, for some of you might find it funny.

I just saw this movie for the second time, so it's still fresh on my mind.
It has Sean Penn making an anti-war message, saying, "Last year I went to Eye-raq. Before Team America showed up, it was a happy place. They had flowery meadows and rainbow skies, and rivers made of chocolate where the children danced and laughed with gumdrop smiles."
And something else very, very funny, Tom Robbins says, "You see, this is how it works, the corporations, they finance Team America, and.. and they sit up in their corporation buildings, all corporationey, and they make money..."
(They are both part of the F.A.G., the Film Actors Guild)
Victorious 27-12-2004, 03:52:PM Ha yes great movie. I saw Baseketball and I thought it was a load of pointless yet mildly amusing ****. But Team America really takes the parody cake with their stupidly funny gags and accidental metaphors (Dicks, Pussy and Assholes come to mind.) Usually I cant stand the 'fartwar in toilets' slapstick scenes, but for some reason the throw up scene drew a sniger to my face, and that sniger ended up as a fulfulling laugh.
Dont see it if your all materialistic about politics and that stuff, though. Its important for people to remember that it is a harmless comedy made by two bums with the humour of little nine year olds.
Funky--K 19-02-2005, 05:37:AM Saw this movie last friday, it's friggin awesome
I'm a huge Stone / Parker fan, I've watched for the last few years almost every single piece of television they were in
As usual, there's a strong critic behind the muppets, but the political part it's not all: You just can't help noticing how "cliche" they make every scene look, it's hilarious! It's like every action film you ever seen merged into a muppet comedy!
i laughed my ass off (most) on the inicial scene, with the french kid eating ice cream and bumping into the terrorist... the whole film is amazing
and as allways, a remarkable soundtrack!! The kind of songs are the typical action/drama/romance, with perfect instrumentation... but obviously... the kickass lyrics!!!
"I miss you more than that movie missed the point
Coz Pearl Harbor sucked... and I miss you" :amika:
also the Kim Jong Il one, ("Ronery"), "America **** Yeah", "Only A Woman" (sex scene, u hardly pay atention to the lyrics), and the genious "What Would You Do", that you laugh ur ass off at the Texas accent :amika:.... all masterpieces
GO TREY! GO MATT! GO DANE!!!
(go coop! go remer! go squeak!)
Hakeem 19-02-2005, 06:20:AM this should actually have been nominated for the Oscar instead of Shark Tale
Sir Calumn 20-02-2005, 02:37:AM Definately, the academy jury never do things like that though. They should have nominated George W. Bush for best supporting actor too :p
